  1. I was watching this show with Tiger and Anthony Kim last night and a question was asked about "most important thing in the swing". Tigers answer was: "balance". He said to take a look at every pro out there and they always finish in perfect balance. It looks like you are about to fall over after your swing. I'm guessing this is just a result of the disconnection of your upper and lower body sections. Parts of your body are going one way while others are pulling you another way.
  2. I dont think this is the proper place for a scratch golfer to ask for advice, IMHO. You should probably be working one on one with your own personal golf coach / pro.
  3. I will agree with the "casting" comments. Have a look at this freeze frame of your downswing on the 2nd swing in that video. See how the club head is being thrown out to the right? At this point, the club head should be over your hands.
  4. As I read this sitting in my desk chair all day at the office.
  5. I think keeping my eye on the ball and making sure I "remember hitting it" will force me to keep the upper body level. The mind can tell if you are unnecessarily moving around up there if you keep your eyes focused on one spot (be it the ball, the ground ahead of it, the back of the ball, etc.)
  6. You know, I have this same problem. I played on Saturday and there were numerous times when I was "digging a hole to china". 5 inches behind the ball 7 inch long deep divot. Each time I can safely say that I never remember seeing the club come in contact with the ball. I firmly believe if I keep my eye on it for a split second longer, slow that tempo down a tad, it forces me to keep my head / upper body at the same height throughout the swing. This is something I am going to focus on next time I am out. What do others have to say about this problem?
  7. You know that guy in your casual group that knows he just cannot hit that far? The one that always goes first because there is just "no chance" he can hit it that far? Well, he finally got a hold of one! haha
  8. Oh don't worry, you're all happy that you found your swing, but next time you go to the range, you'll be so hung up on trying not to hit it bad that every shot will be bad. You end up going to the range to NOT mess up, and in the end, you do. Maybe that's just me, I dunno.
  9. I think I had a mini epiphany the other day when I decided to re-tool my swing and find out what works and what doesn't. It seems as though I need to feel like my hands make a counter clockwise motion if you look down the line. I attached a graphic that should explain it. I'm pretty sure my hands aren't really doing this, but this is a totally different feeling for me, resulting in toe shots even! My normal contact position was extreme heel and *cough* shank. (I've literally never hit one on the toe before feeling this motion.)
  10. Sorry if it has already been posted, but here you go! An instructional video on the proper techniques used in throwing a club! http://www.golf.com/golf/video/artic...720077,00.html
  11. Have a look at this youtube video of Shawn Clement. Golf Pro Lesson Get Snap in your Swing I posted a question using my youtube HunterDT account. Here is what I asked: This video is really helping me out. One thing I would like to ask though... I seem to be able to make some great contact when I swing, oh, 1/4 to 1/2 way back. When I decide to "give it some juice" and get more towards my full swing distances, I begin to make contact closer and close to el hosel. (Sometimes resulting in you know what.) I assume I am trying to add power with my arms thus rushing them through impact? Where should I get this extra power from if not the arms? Thanks!! I would like to ask you guys this same question. Where should most of the power be generated in the swing? Is my assumption correct as to why I begin to mishit when I try to add power? Thanks.
  12. You should take a video of you hitting a ball. You'll have a completely different swing when you are actually hitting the little white ball.
  13. This is it, for me, right here. Not clearing hips + also bringing club back wayy under plane = disaster for me.
  14. Ugh! Tell me about it. I went out yesterday and, for the front 9, felt like I never played a round in my life. Everyone around me was scoring PARs and bogeys and I just couldnt right the ship. On the back 9 I decided to just have fun and try to figure out where I was going wrong. I found that I was just not taking the club back on plane. I was taking it back WAY under and was relying too heavily on perfect timing in order to get any kind of a decent shot. I tried a few shots deliberately taking club straight up ala Furyk (well it felt like Furyk to me) and that got me back to feeling what a good swing is. I was hitting the sweet spot again. After a few good shots, I found my rhythm again. Too bad it was on hole 13 and not 3.
  15. She basically told me what I was expecting. Stop swinging so fast and make sure to have a nice easy tempo. Me trying to "crush it" resulted in a very fast transition (not taking a full back swing). I need to slow it down and that will result in much better contact.
  16. I am headed to a lesson in a couple hours to help resolve this same problem. I notice it happens when I want to add that "little extra" ooomphf to a shot. I think I am transitioning way too soon and casting the club with little to no weight on my left foot at that point. (Righty.) I notice my fat shots go away when I have a nice smooth swing with a good tempo / weight transfer.
  17. GAH!!!! I know how you feel! I had this problem all last year. I would hit 2 or 3 good shots at the range and then everything after that was sh@nk city. I couldnt even chip it 10 yards!! It was all mental, honestly, as I was playing to my normal 90ish strokes on the courses. I signed up for an emergency lesson after one horrible range session. Explained to the instructor what was happening. She asked me to chip it and show her what was wrong. NO SH@NK. Ok, then, 40 yard pitch. NO SH@NK. Alright, well it will happen on my full swing. Whadya know, no sh@nk! I clearly remember her saying "Cmon Ken! There's nothing wring with you!! Stop waiting to mess up!" So far, so good this year. Only been to the range 3 or 4 times though, but each has been alright for me. Pre-shot routine before every shot, target in mind, etc. Each swing means something. Before, I was focused too much on NOT messing up.
  18. Exactly my problem. I remember some of my longest drives last year were after I felt I swung the slowest and with the least amount of effort. Don't let that ego getcha!! Last year at a charity tourney, there was "longest drive" hole. Every single golfer in my group tried to CRUSH IT. Every single golfer ended up in the forest on the right. Including me. Another thing that happens when I try to "crush it" is I hardly take a backswing and immediatley transition into my downswing. I guess my body thinks to itself "Swing and tempo must be FASTER to go farther!" which couldn't be further from the truth.
  19. This is a BIGGIE for me. I have a tendency to lose interest and focus if I hit a few really bad shots. It's something that I need to work on in order to get the most out of my range practice. Sometimes I feel like I can go a whole bucket while "in the zone". But if that string of "lateral shots" happens, it is really hard for me to re-focus and enjoy the practice. I start saying things like "well this is a waste of 9 bucks." and "well, this practice isnt doing me any good". Not fun, not fun. By the way, first post!
