I found I've much less distance control with my 5W than any hybrid. My 5W varies between 180 and 220, depending on how good swing did I put on it Hybrid dispertion in distance is more in a 5-yds range. As far as accuracy goes - call my crazy - but I'll always trust my 5W more than a hybrid... I guess the forgiveness of a fairway wood head is still better than hyb.

hm... The article tells you that first time he got to play there in 2000... the break 100 round happend "... Last year..." and I think I've seen 2006 in the credits on the bottom. I think if you play a course 5 times it will save you good 10 strokes... and one more thing - if a 17hcp did things Ray describes doing during this round - I better be not betting him money this round or he'd end up having my driver up his you-know-what
-
yes they have (at least at the Barefoot resort). They got 4 days of constant showers/rain the weekend of Oct 7th. Greens were PERFECT.... take me with you????

I'm a gadget man and writing stuff on the scorecard, bringing home and typing it (again) into a database is just too much for me. If you have PocketPC or Palm device and are interesting in keeping stats - check out Intelligolf software. I'm not too impressed with their GPS interface (seems to be very inaccurate for shot distance measurements) the stats keeping is easy and straight forward. The reporting is pretty cool too (see bottom of my signature). Granted - it is $40 to get it, but if you have a handheld device - it's well worth it. No other costs attached after that - scorecards are downloadable for free or you can type them in yourself before the round... I like it a lot.

didn't you just recently come back from there??? Geez, you have a tough life have fun out there. conditions are perfect and weather is sweet - I was there for 2 days last week, I was crying on the ride back

I guess it depends which kind of "mental golfer" you are. According to golf psychologist (I don't recall - Rotella or Viliante) there are two types of golfers : "ego golfer" - plays for recognition; it's more important what OTHERS think about his game; needs crawd to preform; gets up with good shots, gets down with bad; thinks about scores and often talks about them; "perfectionist" - plays to achieve perfection; can shield off the crawd, playing partners, etc; doesn't care for score is still searching for perfect swing... Guess which one Tiger is

nothing is really WRONG with it, you have room for improvement though - I'd not force anything and try to do it under supervision of a teaching professional... a bit of reverse pivot (as already pointed out), more shoulder turn, improve on weight transfer, more upright swing plane - these are things that come to mind right away - but again - don't jump to conclusions just after reading these. If you're serious about the game find a good teacher and build up on the solid base you already have. You don't have to have beautiful swing to win money playing golf (see my avatar ) P.S.: ask your parents to buy you couple pair of slacks. Jeans on the golf course just don't look good, even in your age

looks pretty good... I wish I had swing like that when I was your age actually - I wish I was playing golf when I was your age. Keep it up

twice I had a chance to play on a course on Monday, after sunday's finish of the Senior PGA event. Note it wasn't "the" PGA event... and I tell you - it's nuts. Playing "golfer-friendly" semi-privates and resort courses before I never understood why the commentators keep repeating "he(she) HAS TO hit the fairway"... It's really not that hard to play out of rough, isn't ? After I played the Ridgewood CC (New Jersey) day after Senior US Open - I changed my mind Friend of mine who played with me ignored advice from caddy, (who said to use a sand wedge and hack the ball out of the rough) tried to put a full swing on a ball with 5i... result? Pulled (and ripped) a muscle somewhere around his rib cage It's simply sick. Rough was about 4-5" deep and grass was on sterioids - as thick as a finger. Greens (not cut that morning!) were like glass, I'm sure they're still in the 14-15 range of the stimp, even after 24hrs since last cut. TPC @ Tampa, where I played monday after "regular" Senior Tour event was not less challanging. Greens were just as slick, rough was just as tough. These were Senior Tour conditions... add another 1000yds to this setup and you'll get an idea, what "real" Tour course is. I think on a scale from 1 to 10 - we play day-to-day on #3, they play on #9-10....

Steel vs. Titanium. It's all about personal preference - I'd take steel clubface every day - just for the feel. Titanium supposed to have more distance (can be made thinner with more spring effect), but I just like the sound/feel combination of a steel club.

he talks too much... and in wrong times: ( 2002 US Open ) : Q. Did you feel at any time that maybe the round should have been delayed or postponed because of weather? SERGIO GARCIA: I certainly did. And I don't know if Tiger Woods had been out there, I think it would have been called. But there was a moment when not even the squeegees or whatever you wanted to put out there was going to help. And I really felt like it probably should have taken 40- or 45-minute break, but, you know, I hung in there and they got the round going. the 11th hole in the final round of the Players Championship, Garcia, who was out of contention, imparted too much draw spin on his approach to a green bordered hard on the left by water. His ball took an unforgiving hop off the putting surface and into the fishies, setting off a tantrum so violent that NBC must have chosen not to show it on the "live" telecast. Garcia ripped off his cap, kicked it, tomahawked his club, made several woe-is-me gestures, then went after the hat again. To those viewing on a soundless feed piped into the media center, it was hard not to laugh or shake your head. On two separate instances during Sunday's front nine, Garcia became huffy at playing partner Jerry Kelly when Kelly asked who was away -- their balls were almost equidistant to the hole on the fourth green, then again on the seventh. Garcia later became incensed when he said "good shot" to Kelly and didn't hear a response. "It wasn't the Sergio I knew, or thought I knew," Kelly says. "He snapped at me a couple of times." He had these little smiley faces on his ball. I said, 'Oh, smiley faces?' He said, 'Yeah, well I had them at Augusta, too.' And I said, "Well, at least your ball did.' "His response was, 'You worry about yourself, I'll worry about me.' It wasn't nice. He made it clear he wasn't going to apologize when it would have been nice to clear it up early in the week. He obviously feels like he didn't do anything wrong." That is a a result of 5min google search only Add to that his statements about Michelle Wie playing in Euro Tour and comments on Tiger playin in Ryder Cup... Sure he backed it up and it showed true both times - that's not a point though. Again - I'll pass

Dave, I'm not sure if you hate Michelle more than I can't stand Davis L3. somehow he rubs me the wrong way... can't quite zone in on why.
-
I managed to hit the flag stick (from 150 or so), hard enough to catapult off the green into a hazard. Missed by inch would've settle down (maybe even spin) few feet past the cup
-
I'm picking up whatch'ya layin' down brother... however - deep, deep inside I do believe that the TP ball will improve my score... What can I say - I'm a cool-aid drinker if we're talking brand names
-
I don't know if I'm alone, but right now this is a new No 1 for me in the "budget golf ball" category. 3-piece, with solid distance, good enough spin off irons and very nice feel off the putter head... IMHO much softer feeling than NXT Tour. With various coupons and such I can get them for $20 a dz... great deal. Of course in a big tournament my Ego will pull out the Taylor Made TP's out of the box, but for "casual" rounds - this will be my ball of choice for a while. Anybody cares to share a experience with them?
-
friend of mine sent his 360's back too, because in light drizzle he got all wet... I had mine out in a rain and they were fine. I guess it has to be defective to let water through . I also play in Nike's sp6, which I find very comfortable, yet they're far from being 'waterproof' as advertised. Since I bought them on sale for $30 a pair - I won't complain too much
-
agree - it's a tough thing to make the setup adjustment and then "swing normally". Besides your lies scenario - I see the same happing to me when I try to "work" the ball. I set up to fade the ball and instead of normal swing what happens sounds something like that : "WARNING, WARNING, here is your subconcious speaking!!! Your legs are set open instead of parallel - let's recover from that unusual situation!!!" and of course a big pull-hook comes out of it
-
thanks for the visual but seriously - high expectations are the best game killer. As hacky it might sound - but w/o "one shot at the time" you can't enjoy the game. It's more visible on our playing level, but even pros have this problem. I think I'm doing much better job at it than in recent years.. weekends like the last one, where I shot 85-74-83 rounds don't bother me that much anymore; next shot and next round - that's the only thing that counts!
-
very uneven weekend. Saturday: 85. Played in a "pro-am" event with our assistant pro (best ball of 3 + pro's score), so I did some stupid things that I'd never do playing my own ball. Sunday morning: 74 in perfect condition, very solid round = 15 pars and 3 bogeys. Afternoon - 83 with 2 birdies. I guess I was getting tired
-
almost... you just have to drive further and further down south. Courses in Atlantic City area are pretty much open year-round, of course if there is no snow on the ground. Last 3 winters were tough.. but that's what South Carolina is for. $200 round trip ain't THAT bad after shoveling 4 feets of snow

we don't want a party, we want REVENUE SHARING!!!! EXCLUSIVE ADVERTISMENT RIGHTS!!!! good luck dude

since when do you need a crime to be commited to deem an athlet to be "maybe not the best choice for a role model" ? He's a punk, that's a fact. He's part of the "new breed" of golfers, which IMHO (ok, maybe I'm too old and too conservative) doesn't fit into my defnition of a gentleman. Ratif, Ernie, Tiger, Couples, Duval - these are people who I'd like to have my kids learn from how to behave in public and in a front of media. Spoiled little brats, who're mouthing off every occasion they get, just because they're blessed with a great dose of talent - sorry dude, I'll pass
-
thanks for the quick replies guys. Order placed. I guess $99 to stay warm all winter ain't THAT bad...
-
I'll make sure I've red underwear on

in that case he'll have only enough material for first chapter
