Right, when I first saw that I went and checked their website, hes not listed as an instructor anymore. http://www.chelseapiers.com/gc/academy/golf-pros.cfm If anyone knows otherdfwise, please do let me know. Edit: A quick google search revealed hes now at his own place in lower manhattan. Anyone have any other experience with any of the instructors at the piers?

Bumping this as I'm looking for instruction in the NYC area. Anyone have any good feedback on anything in the area? My transportation access is limited, so the closer to the city the better. Thanks

Beginner, need some help with my clubs
mgd150 replied to mArreola1069's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for the feedback, I think part of me just wants to see if there's actually any difference between the gigas and the major manufacturer clubs, figured I'd start out with an older used set that way when I was ready to get properly fitted I'd have a bit more confidence in my decision to go with a major brand. Im a realistic person, I don't expect my ball striking to improve overnight just because there's a different logo on the club. Also, I know I only mentioned TM lines above, but my question was more to the progression of GI/SGI irons in general over the last couple years. -

Are there major differences in forgiveness between irons from a few generations back (burner+/burner 2.0/RBZ HL) and todays rocketbladez, speedblades, etc? I'm currently gaming a set of irons from gigagolf (gx944) and I'm considering getting a used set from a major brand off ebay. Thanks -
One other question, I'm a high handicap, and relatively short (5'8"). Should I just get the stock shaft cut down to 44 inches from 46 instead of replacing it?
-
Thanks, I just picked up a TM Jetspeed driver to replace my burner SF 2.0, and I'm thinking the stock shaft might be a bit too long.

Anyone have any good places to get a driver reshafted in NYC? Should I just take it to golfsmith? Thanks

I played Pelham Bay on Saturday and Douglaston on Sunday. Shot 110+ both days :/ my goal is to break 100 this year, thought getting an early start would be a good idea. Only 18 putts on the back 9 on Sunday, so I guess that's a step in the right direction.

2013 Sun Mountain Four 5 Stand Bag on closeout, cant wait to get it out on the course. -
According to golfnow and golfzing, Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx and Dyker Beach in Brooklyn are open. I'm looking forward to checking out the new clubhouse at VC, supposed to be pretty nice.

I know its not great, but shot my lowest score ever yesterday, 49/57 for a 106 (I'm usually around 113-117). Second shot on the first hole stuck it 6 feet from the pin, of course I went on to two putt. This is the sort of thing that causes pace of play issues:

Chipped from off the green today, ball would have gone in but it was held up between the pin and the perimeter of the hole. Obviously falls in when the pin is pulled, is there a special ruling for this?
-
Saw these balls at golfsmith today, 24.99 for a double dozen. Anyone ever use them? Should I just stick to my top flite D2s?
-
Shot a 52 on 9. Only lost 1 ball. Making Progress.

I have a stock burner super fast 2.0 driver, think it's 46.5", thinking about getting it cut to 45.5" at golfsmith. Should I worry about swingweight or anything, or will they make sure to adjust whatever needs adjusting?

So I was at the range a couple weeks ago, just got to post these videos now. I've been trying to work on the one plane takeaway highlighted in post #7 above. Of the video I got (forgive the poor quality, I had my iPhone propped up by my sneaker sitting on top of my golf bag), I have one swing that I thought was better, and one swing that I thought was worse. Better: Worse:

Bringing Balls on a Plane?
mgd150 replied to mgd150's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
No problems at all with the balls. Overall the Trip was fantastic, the caddy was extremely friendly and pretty much gave my girlfriend and I a lesson while playing (along with retrieving every one of our errant shots). The course was pretty good, the crabgrass rough was different than what I'm used to, have to put a pretty good swing on it to get it out. I liked the caddy so much on the first day that I went back and played 18 with him on the second while the GF had a spa day. Ended up shooting a 48 on the front with a lot of mulligans but a 41 on the back with only 4-5 rehits (the caddy wouldn't let me go until I hit the shot he wanted). My highlight of the day was 3 natural pars in a row, and the whole round I only 3 putted twice, didn't take any mulligans on the greens. I've never broken 110 when keeping score for real, I'm not sure what I would have shot had I not taken the mulligans, but dropping and playing an extra ball every time I had a mishit shot definitely helped me improve, I was able to tell what I did wrong on the mishit and correct it. I'm excited to play this weekend and hopefully see improvements when I keep a real score. -
Bringing Balls on a Plane?

Flying out tomorrow at 5 AM. If they do give me any crap I think I'll just toss the balls. Not worth the hassle to save a few bucks. I'll definitely try to get them through though. -
Shot a 111 today at Van Cortland in NYC. Shot a 60 on the front 9, which was about average for me, then a 51 on the back, including my first birdie ever (yes I'm pretty bad), also had 5 bogeys and 1 par. Lots of 7's and 8's on the front nine, and a 9 on one hole on the back (on a par 3 ). Very pumped about the birdie, 153 yd uphill par 3, hit a 6 iron to about a 10 foot putt and made it.

Bringing Balls on a Plane?
mgd150 replied to mgd150's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Won't be checking a bag, so I'll try to carry them on. Good thing they're cheap so I won't have an issue tossing them if I do get any grief at the airport. Also if it makes any difference I'm flying through JFK and Miami. -
Anyone know if I can bring golf balls on a plane traveling internationally? I'm heading to Jamaica this weekend, to Jewel Runaway Bay resort and golf course (got a really good deal and golf is included), not bringing my clubs so I will be renting. Being as bad as I am, I'm sure I will lose a few balls, so I figured I'd throw a few extra sleeves in my bag and take them along. Am I being a cheapskate by wanting to bring balls with me and not buy them there? I normally play recycled Top Flite D2s, just to let you know where my budget normally is. Also, has anyone played there before? Thoughts on the course?

Any good drills or videos that I can do inside that will help an out to in swing? Pretty much every time Im golfing with someone and they get a view of my swing from behind they politely let me know that Im coming over the top. Should I just concentrate on trying to come down first then out? Described in this video? Obviously I cant stick an alignment stick into my apartment floor and try to hammer it in, but I can try to make the motion.

+1 on the stuff you can do at home, I started doing it last week and already felt the difference at the range today.

Try out the burner 2.0, just picked one up and I like it a lot.
