Good thing we didn't trade up for RG III....... aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrghhhh. It begins again

My dad would always shoot around 90, rarely below. Old man swing, maybe up to his shoulder on backswing. 150 yards straight like clockwork. Course par 4's averaged 370 or so. Two 150 yard shots, 3 shots from there cause he could pitch and putt a bit.

Can you really test out wedges from a mat? What lofts??
Ricepr replied to Ricepr's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
>> - This advice, of course, suggest bounce for "ideal" neutral conditions. If you have super hard or super soft turf/sand, this will influence bounce choices. >> This year, my usual two courses they only water greens. Things are so baked out you putt out of sand traps, a butter knife has too much bounce, and there are paramedics at the 150 stakes in case anyone tries to take a real divot. Thursday I hope to get to the course by the state park with a lake, and the whole course is green rather than brown! -

Ricepr replied to Ricepr's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
>> Well, by design the divot comes after contact with the ball, so you should not see any real problems except for the fact that the mat won't allow you to take a divot. >> Yep, and even most of the time now! But I hit off mats twice this year as I returned to the game, and my knuckles and even elbows ached -
If hitting it flush feels better than scoring then why leave the range?

Only places near here are GGalaxy and Dick's, mats and simulator. How can you legitimately check out wedges not on turf? What do you look for, feel I guess, but its very hard to take a divot.......without going to the ER. My TM set has a 45 degree P, so I'm thinking 50 and 56, I might be able to try a friends Titleist SM-4's ifn I drives a bit.

Hitting 200 balls a day a bad thing?
Ricepr replied to Travis Robinson's topic in Fitness and Exercise
I'd suggest a 100 in the morning and another 100 at night. Do lots of stretching exercises and perhaps some light weightwork geared towards golf. And the rest of the time short game and putting. 3-5 times a week? Should be fine, with guidance so you are working on the right stuff. -
Ive been working on my swing, and its usually a slight fade, nice high flight. But occasionally (1 in 10), particularly with longer clubs, I will just mash one what seems a bit farther than usual, dead straight left. So can you list the 293 things that its possible I'm doing wrong? I used to slice quite a bit, and now have worked on making sure I have an inside out path, is it possible I am overdoing it sometime? I mean its straight and far, I wish to hell I could repeat it and I might just aim that way :-)

Scoring well on a shot, hole, or round; from the choices given Improving is fun But the most fun is spending time with my best friend playing a round, with no one behind us, no one ahead of us, maybe playing two balls a hole. Good fun, relaxation, exercise We both want to do our best, and compete, but its friendly as all hell. What I don't like? Slow folks ahead of me, playing with strangers, feeling rushed. Also I play courses with no dress code to speak of

These are not things that all go through my mind as I hit, particularly when I play. But I am just trying to have written down and in my head a sequence of things and play it like a movie as i visualize. When I play, its all about autopilot for good or ill and solid contact. Here I'm thinking inside cause I was going straight back. Its gonna come up about the right amount if I do the other things right. I've been off golf for 5 years, was never at it much. And have 20 years of hitting baseballs and softballs to over come. Well I did enjoy that at the time :-)

Instruction resources on television
Ricepr replied to dave67az's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I get some useful nuggets from School of Golf, also liked the Tony Jacklin shows. The champions tour show has less (ff with tivo). Golf fix with amphetamine abuser Michael Breed is just annoying he may have good info there but its like watching the today show, and at 2*x speed at that -
Obviously not all at once, but here is what im doing to change from a "pick the club straight up into a baseball hitting stance and chop down" swing i defaulted back to after not golfing a spell Slightly strong grip One piece takeaway low and inside Shoulder turn Left arm across chest Hips turn but no sway Not too big a backswing But reach out with arms Drive forward Legs->hips->shoulders->arms Swing down into ball Left wrist straight at impact Extend arms out End with chest facing target Nothing revolutionary here. Some learned in two lessons, others shoveling at the range or watching slo mo swings of various pros. I am aiming for relatively straight at the target, in the air. Seems to give a nice high flight with some fade. Anything horribly wrong with this train of thought Really need to work on shots from 70 yards to say 10 off green. Putting and chipping from fringe decent. But the land of the half to 3/4 swing is my worst. Down the road i would love to hit a draw on purpose. Winter will be once or twice a month with big clubs, but short game, stamina, and flexibility

Nike vr_s irons are the best clubs I've ever held
Ricepr replied to firstorlast's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
All your clubs are belong to us -
I have been using Taylormade RAC and they are OK. I got a used Vokey 50 and loved it, so I'll be watching season end sales. Currently the older spin milled are cheaper, the newer SM4's are more of course. Can anyone tell me me what the difference would be? My usual take is to get last years stuff as its cheaper and at 15 I'm not sure that adding some small percentage of better is worth the extra cost. HOWEVER the short game is my weak point (most folks ?) and if I am gonna spend a little more. Probably get a 56 and maybe a 60. Grooves on my 50 are OK so I'll likely regrip and keep Thanks.
