If I play at courses that do not have a driving range and if so I tend to go to the local range before heading to the course. I have often wondered why the majority go from car to clubhouse to tee box and skip any kind of warm up. They are the same ones who will take batting practice or throw the ball around before the game or shoot around before a basketball game. Maybe I'm just in the minority here.

Whats in my bag is my signature.

Have to agree Im around a 20 and I can get a round in a about 2.5 hrs with no one in front of me at a reasonable pace. Not rushing by any means. OP I have a similar problem. I think its actually a rhythm issue.I get out of it so to speak when I have to wait.

Bubba Watson and Cheering...are we seeing a new trend?
Flav replied to NathanGreen's topic in Golf Talk
It was cool today with Bubba and Keegan playing to the crowd in the afternoon. I just would not hold my breath waiting for that kinda of interaction at say the US Open or pretty much any regular PGA event. -
Sorry but two people who leave the tee box at the same time and have to travel 200 yards are not going to arrive at the same time, when one walks and one rides a cart. Over all walkers are faster than most cart riders. But that has a lot do with what takes place when the cart is parked and not playing ready golf.

Have never had a pace of play issue. Its not like anyone really is going to walk to the ball from the teebox faster than the cart can drive. So I walk to the ball from there and my playing partner is either ahead or behind or across from my ball. It works for me and I can say pace of play has never been an issue. Wish I could find courses that allow walking all the time, but june, july, august really wouldnt matter with 112 degree temps.

Same boat here. Have been using a "coach" for about a year with three to four rounds in between lessons. I would say if he/she will allow it video tape the lesson and that way you can repeat what your taught that day. Also make sure he/she gives you a drill or two to help ingrain what it is your working on. The Pro I use lets me tape my session and its helps to have a week after.

I ride somewhat and well the heat kind of has a hand in that. But I refuse to drive off the cart path even if its on the opposite side. I grab a few clubs and walk over to ball getting an idea of the slope and feel for the grass. The extra time walking across the fairway gets me into the shot. I for one dont like the ones who drive from ball to ball leaving a few inches to shoot from. Some days I think my playing partner is in the cart three times as much as I am. Sadly walking being limited more and more on the courses.

I'm probably in the minority. i play the men's, middle, white (6200ish) tees what ever you want to call them. I give it two holes. If my swing doesn't feel right that day I will move up and play the shorter tees. No sense in struggling all day to shoot a horrible score and take the fun out of it. My home course is not the longest but not the shortest either. I see to many people who are afraid to go up to the forward tees because they still have the "women's" tees mentality. I bet if they did and carded a few birdies they would think differently of it.

I dont mind walking and will in the fall once in awhile. But the summers and late spring down here in South Carolina can be quite brutal to walk. Not to mention like someone else said most top courses down here do not allow walking or at very limited times. So most people really do not have a choice. As a side note most major tournaments down here allow walking.

That would be the average. People get o hung up on the I know someone who shoots 90's and I shoot 80's, then go on to say I see the golfers that couldnt break 100 on their best day. Take the two and thats average. There is always those who will shoot lower than 100 and those who shoot higher. But the average is going to be 100 plus for the weekend warrior.

What do you think of this bag set up and alternates.
Flav replied to Flav's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I carried the 5 iron and never used it. I have the 5 wood adjusted down in loft from its 18 degree stock setting. I do have a gap in loft from the Raylor to 6 iron but found this is not an issue on just about every hole. As long as I can get to the 170-150 range from the tee on most par 4's or second shot on par 5's I can reach with the 6 iron on down. But the set up is geared towards my home course and does changed based on the length or conditions of the course. More green side bunkers and add in the lob wedge etc. Thanks for the feed back. -
I spend 100 a month of course membership and another 120-200 on cart fees and range fees or greens fees at another course. So probably 3000 a year average not including any lessons or equipment costs.
-
No I would say your not over estimating, some will but the average will have trouble. There is always exceptions and extremes at both ends. I can see the difference in my game when I go a week between rounds with no practice.

Now I know you play what works for you, and this set up and the alternates work for me. Just curious as to what ya'll think. Would you recommend any alternatives or change anything to make it even better. Driver: Taylormade R11 9 degree stock shaft stiff flex. Set to promote a draw 3wood: Taylormade Burner Superfast 2.0 , stock shaft 5 wood: Taylormade R11s set to promote a draw Hybrid: Taylormade Burner 19 degree Hybrid: Taylormade Raylor 22 degree irons: Taylormade Burner 2.0 6-pw Wedges: Cleveland CG16's 48, 56 degree Calloway Warbird 52 degree ( want to replace it with another Cleveland once I get some more funds) Putter: Taylormade Ghost Spider Alternates that I add in depending on the course. Hybrids: Adams tight lies: 16 degree (hit is nice but only from the fairway ,where the TM's I can get out of rough too) Nickent 6DT : 3h (19 degree) 4h (22 degree) use them sometimes but like the adams can not get them out of the rough. Wedges: Maxfli C3 56 and 60 degree with different bounce on the 56 than the cleveland. 3wood: Tayormade r5 with a smaller head than the Superfast and can hit it better some days.
-
Guess my current set up is my dream bag seeing how it took me a couple of ears to save up and put it together. Got fitted for the kit and kaboodle. Driver: taylormade r11 9 degree stiff 3 wood: burner superfast 2.0 5 wood: r11s 4 hybrids: taylormade Irons: burner 2.0 (6-pw) wedges: cleveland cg 16 series putter: ghost spider

Anyone ever use the OptiShot golf simulator by dancingdogg? Just wondering how accurate it is. I am probably getting it and using it for fun but also a replacement for the range on days I dont feel like driving to one.

Yes "weekend golfer" is a generalization and can be misleading. A weekend only player can be good but they will most likely hit the range, take lessons, etc during the week. But when one says "weekend golfer" the image that pops into ones head is what you call a less avid golfer. Maybe Casual golfer would work better.
-
Once a weekend will have trouble breaking 100 consistently unless they practice during the week in between especially if they play legit golf and not what my group calls "weekend rules".

I have been working on my swing and grip this year so my distances are allover the place. The average so far for the clubs that have been tracked the most according to the gps shot tracking are: Driver : 200 - 230 (Longest has been 280 with roll, and shortest was 110 topped it bad) 3 Wood : 215ish (tee), 200ish (deck) 6 Iron : 150-180 7 Iron : 160-180 8 Iron : 155 9 Iron : 140 - 154 PW : 130-141 48 : 120-126 56 :90-113 Dont really rely on the longest as its not consistently there yet and may have been a fluke. Just dont have enough shots tracked for the other clubs that round out my bag yet.

I played my first tournament round this past July. 36 hole stroke play and loved it. First tee was rough but it was a rush and addictive. Played bad and seeing my score posted for everyone to see on the score board was nerve racking. But the encouragement from fellow golfers after about the good golf shots I had made it a positive experience and one I look forward to doing more often.
-
I would say that is somewhat true. Most "weekend golfers" and by that I will define them as those who go out and play with friends using mulligans etc and never play in tournaments or maintain a legit handicap. They may play more often but do not take it as serious as someone who plays in tourney's and maintains a handicap. They probably will not visit a site like this and talk about their scores. I play with some friends and we will play "weekend rules" because they dont take it as serious as I do. I like to look at those as practice round and hit an extra ball etc. I would not say they are less passionate, just lack the desire to do anything more than enjoy a round with friends and have some fun experiences.

The game that is played by most weekend golfers is not quite golf so yep scores in the 80's or 90's is common. The average guy or gal playing golf, that is by the rules, will easily shoot 100+. The top amateurs shoot what most weekend hacks claim to shoot. So that tells you something right there.
