1. The other question is are we talking 170 yards carry or total?
2. What club speed do you need to hit it 170 yards?
3. no, no I meant it as a mental block, if you think your hitting 5 iron then you will hit the 7 further.............ok you got me I reversed the numbers
4. put tape over the 7 and write a 5 with a sharpie, works everytime
5. I think for the most part we are agreeing on that, my only point is I think with the same mechanics it makes it easier. Hence while there is people of all sizes on Long driving, the average guy does seem above average size. But besides all of that thank you glad to be back
6. I think you and a lot if people are missing my point. I never said you have to be big to hit it far, ultimately clubhead speed is the biggest factor. But obviously being 6'4" with +1" long clubs is going to make my swing longer and using same relative effort produce more speed. You always hear about on the forums someone knowing some big rugby/football/ baseball etc player who can smash the ball. But that has little to do with scoring, obviously and that's why I can't think of one person on the PGA built like that. I mean they rave about how muscular and strong tiger and Gary woodland are, I've seen those guys up close at tournaments, I would say they are quick and flexible, but they both look like string beans to me ( which isn't a bad thing). There maybe a reason for that in being overly muscular might produce ( sometimes ) greater distance, but also may hinder ability to be consistent, or be able to be in a better impact position etc
7. http://www.golfwrx.com/62549/how-far-should-you-hit-your-golf-clubs/ http://www.golfwrx.com/64715/carry-distance-vs-swing-speed-chart/ Both these charts make it seem very accurate
8. Absolutely if your consistently 20 yards right or left now find yourself under a tree, not have a proper line of site, you can quickly see how your playing bogey golf. Especially if I can't chip. Or if you overshoot the green easily, consistency lowers scores not power
9. To be fair that's with a pretty wide dispersmemt, and obviously over swing some. Being 6'4" 245 with + 1" long clubs that really doesn't seem that crazy to me. We have already discussed how pros can hit their pw 100-160 yards easy. So amateur ( who can't find anything remotely consistent from 100 yards in, hence the handicap) who is bigger/ stronger than %99 of PGA players, not possible?
10. How fast do you swing your 7 iron? Driver?
11. New clubs still working on arms and hips
12. Driver titleist 907 d3 8* ust x stiff - 275-315 I tend to hit high hooks or slices that kill my average 3 wood Adams x stiff 15*- 270-295 off deck and off tee I hit way straighter and consistent than driver ( my only hole in one was on a flat hole par 4 297 with a 3wood, and it was on the coast so no elevation 3 hybrid 18* x100 true temper 250-260 4 hybrid x100- 235-240 5 iron x100 - 215-225 6 iron x100 - 205-215 7 iron x100 - 195-205 8 iron x100 - 180-185 ( I tend to swing a little slower comparatively than the lower irons) 9 iron x100 - 165-175 PW x100 - 150-160 SW x100- 135-145 LW s300- 110-120 Now to be fair PW is 45* and 5 iron is 23* so they are strong lofted. Also what I think isn't mentioned a lot is my clubs are 1" long +2* up because I'm 6'4 which obviously are going to increase swing speed with the longer shaft.
13. These are some new swings today with my sand wedge using and overlapping grip for the first time in my life and really concentrating on keeping my left arm straight. First swing I topped a little bit, next 4 I hit within 5 yards of a each straight and very high ball flight. The funny thing with the overhand grip it cuts my distance down considerably but allows me to hit the ball much higher for more consistent, soft landings, which I prefer. Let me know what you guys think/see. Next time I plan on working with my hip turn more, one thing at a time
14. Thanks for the help! I'm going to experiment with overlapping because from testing it out it's pretty obvious I can't grip as strong with my right hand which I've been fighting for years.
15. I was wondering something very similar, I have a very strong grip and have always used a interlocking grip. Today I was to if you have bigger hands ( mine aren't huge but 8 1/2" are above average) that you should use overlapping and that would also make my grip less strong and allow my wrist to break and so far it's helped. Was wondering if anyone else heard that?
16. I'm a hydrologist for the usgs
17. So the deeper hip turn, and weight shift will that help speed/distance or accuracy? Or both? thank you
18. Thanks for the tips, and just practicing inside that seems to make a lot of sense and help out!
19. I've been playing off and on for a few years. I use to go to to the driving range and just practice hitting the ball out of the ranges, it never helped my score! Lately I've been getting more serious about becoming more rounded, and slowing/calming my swing down. My current handicap around +18 Ball flight I would say mid Trying to get rid of hitting ten good shots in a row then one bad swing messes me up for 5 or 6 more. Pitching wedge Sand wedge 8 iron On the last video I was told to move hips less from takeaway which feels awkward and cut some of my speed down but was told it would help my consistency
20. Actually me two I play them more where I would hit a fairway wood than a 3 iron
21. Thanks for the education I always figured it was something like that but now I know for sure
