The only 3 wood I have found I personally hit consistent is the Nike VRS Covert Tour 3 wood. It isn't nearly as long as most 3 woods, but I've been consistent around 250 give or take 5 yards, and it really is forgiving. It is also super easy to hit off the deck. With it being adjustable too, you can set the loft that suits your eye.

Ok guys I'm bringing an old thread back from the dead, but I now have a new iron set and am looking at doing thus again but more seriously. I picked up a set of Nike VR Split cavity irons with stock S300's in them. I like the ball flight but they do tend to "spin up" and balloon half the time. I've been researching and was considering the DG X100 tour issue shafts for them to realistically give me the penetrating ball flight, and to not balloon. The flight I have now, minus the ballooning, is mid flight which is fine but want it slightly lower. Would these shafts work out for what I'm looking for? Thanks in advance.

Ridiculously high, and I'm looking for more of a mid to low-mid flight, It's not set on 8*, it's setup for 7.5*, and I still hit that higher than most people hit a 9.5-10.5, but still getting around 300 yards every drive (give or take 10 yards). When I swing my irons though, I don't obviously swing as hard as my driver, but I try to have a more controlled swing. With that being said, the slightly lighter, softer flex shaft to me feels better only for the fact I can control the club more, whereas if I go heavier, and stiffer, I have to swing a little harder and therefore would not be in control so much.

Looking for some answers here and hoping to find them here. I just got a custom Fujikura Motore F1 for my R11S driver today, and I was wondering if that shaft is compatible (with the tip) in my R9 T3 3-wood? I got it to fit in and tighten up, but will I be doing any damage? Thanks guys.

Thats the only shaft I've ever hit in my irons (tt) and i like them, i think I'm just looking for something new maybe. On a side note, the shafts in my HT's are TT, but a made for. I wonder if just doing S300's will change it up ball flight wise.

Ok guys I have a bit of a plight here. I recently added (couple months ago) some TaylorMade RAC HT Irons to my bag and I absolutely love them, but I'm thinking of switching out the shafts as the ones in them are the stock TaylorMade S shafts. I'm torn between 4 options, 2 of which are the usual suspects. These are the options I'm looking at... 1. Project X 6.0 or 6.5 shafts (non-flighted) 2. True Temper S300 3. Rifle Tapered Shafts 6.5 (non-flighted) 4. KBS Tour Stiff Shafts I'm leaning more towards either KBS or Project X, but still not sure. I'm looking for something to help give me a little bit lower flight though for sure. Also, does anyone know what the tip diameter is for my irons, and if they are tapered or not. Thanks guys.

Wedges: Why do so many bag a 52*, 56*, 60*?
SacGolf89 replied to BrokeLoser's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Mine has been purely based on my yardages. My PW (45*) is around the 130 yard mark, so I tried a 54 and 60. That didn't work as the 54 was 100, and the 60 was around 80. I switched to a 52 and 56, and the yardages looked better. The 52 is now at 115, and the 56 is at 100, with the 60 (now a TM xFT, was a vokey, same bounce) now around 90. Around a 10-15 yard gap is what I'm looking for between clubs at worst. Opposite of my Dad who likes to amp up on club if he is "in between clubs," I like to take it a bit easier so I can get that smooth control, so the 10-15 yard gap is money. -
Got a bit of a question, but I will let y'all know why I'm thinking of this shaft... I have tried this shaft in my current R11s Driver and loved it. On the 8.25* loft setting and the stock shaft it spun up way too much. I put the Motore F1 in, and it was money ball flight and spin (Lowered the launch down a lot visually, don't remember what it was angle wise, but spin went from 3600 down to 2500). Now I've got that in my driver and love it, but am thinking of adding it also to my RBZ 3 wood (15* loft). I have a relatively steep angle of attack, so I have no problem getting this guy airborne. I'm looking for a bit lower flight however. Would this be a good shaft option for me in my RBZ? Thanks in advance.

How long to adjust to new set?
SacGolf89 replied to kw purp's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm about a month and a half to 2 months into my new setup, and I can say I've only figured out my 4-wood. all my irons are well short from where they used to be on my old set, except for my 6 iron which is spot on, maybe a bit further than my old 6. I'm not expecting to have them dialed in asap, as it takes some time. It does get frustrating, but it happens. -
Anyone use Cobra Amp Driver.
SacGolf89 replied to Coleoneps's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Had one and liked it. My problem was my shaft spine was out 90* and i sent it in for a new shaft and was told it would be a month. Said screw that and got a Nike VR Pro Ltd and love it. The Amp though is a sweet driver. -
I have the Tom Watson 52* and it fit good with my old irons but not my new ones. It's a little much compared to my PW in my new ones. Thinking of switching to a 54* instead. I hit the 52* about 110 on average.
-
Have not tried those, but I'm sure they're sweet. The only irons that I would say are killer this year are the TaylorMade irons, the tour preferred or R11 irons. I hit those maybe a bit better off the shelf, but couldn't find a deal on any of them like my Nike's.

Ya sorry about that. I just had my buddy do it on my phone. I'll do some better ones this Sunday as I'll be out on a grass range. Like I said I've lost distance but it's going straighter which I can live with.
-
I've been Playing Golf for: 3 months after a 9 year break My current handicap index or average score is: 90's My typical ball flight is: Medium to high The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: The Shank-A-Potomus Just took a video of 2 different angles with my PW tonight. My buddy was out helping me and made me slow down my tempo, and now it's flying straighter, but I've lost about 10-20 yards in my normal distances with my irons. Lemme know what you all think.

Looked very smooth and controlled. Nice swing.

How far do you hit your clubs?
SacGolf89 replied to SpringBokVol's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
For me... Driver (8.5* open face) - 295 4 wood (16.5* open face) - 250 3 iron - 225 4 iron - 210 5 iron - 190 6 iron - 175 7 iron - 165 8 iron - 155 9 iron - 145 PW (47*) - 135 GW (52*) - 120 SW (56*) - 110 I use the Cobra Amp woods, with Nike VR Pro Combo irons (3-PW), and Adams Golf Tom Watson wedges. -
I work for Les Schwab Tire Centers. Just bust tires and brakes all day long. Pays me enough to be able to play this game lol.

Mine was the par 5 4th on Allister Mackenzie at Haggin Oaks. Normally get pars on it, but one day I hit a 325 yard drive and realized I had a shot at the green with my 5 iron. Had to go over water which is intimidating, but I knocked down within 5 feet for an eagle try and sunk the putt.
-
Usually switch off between Arcade Creek or Alister Mackenzie, or I'll head out to Land Park if I don't feel like having to pay too much. I've also played Cherry Island and liked it. Next to play will probably be Ancil Hoffman. I've played that course once, and that was with my Dad when I was 10. I'm always trying to find new courses to play.

I think for me it's the way the VR's have changed my swing a bit because of the extra weight. I figured out my driver and 4 wood swing, as I used to come pretty straight up and do an out to in then slice it, where as now I stay flatter on my takeback and it stays on plane and goes straighter with a bit of draw. Now going to my irons, that works pretty well with my 3 and 4 iron, but I feel that having that flatter swing with my shorter irons could be throwing me off as I feel I'm inside outting the ball. I may go get fitted once I get some more cash to see if the S300 is a bit much for me. I did get fitted on my driver and had a SS of 110, but not sure if that'll matter on my irons. Thanks for the input

New to Golf, need advice on 2 new clubs
SacGolf89 replied to Goforth07's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm partial to Cobra woods and hybrids, so I would say check out the Amp 4 wood and Amp 3 Hybrid. That was the setup I was going to go with until I picked up my VR Pro Combo irons. I have the Amp 4 wood and like it. I hit my Amp driver on average 290, and my 4 wood 255. My 3 iron comes in at 225 average so it's a nice spacing. The 3 hybrid would hit about the same distance, but it would be a lot more forgiving. Also, the Amp stuff is on sale for about $130 for either a hybrid or fairway wood. -
I just recently picked up the VR Pro Combo's, and I love them. I tried hitting both them and the blades, and the blades were a definite no go, at least for me. Very unforgiving, like most all blades are. The Pro Combo though is phenomenal. The forgiveness of the Long irons is great, the mid irons play close to blades in shot shaping, but still have the forgiveness, and the low iron blades are killer, especially 160 yards and in for me. It's crazy because I switch back and forth between Nike PD Soft balls and Titleist Pro V1x balls, and with my last set of irons on the PD's I could never get them to check on the green, and the Pro V would check some. With the Pro Combo blades I get the PD to now check in 1 bounce, and the Pro V to hit the green and immediately spin back. Blades are nice looking and all, but the forgiveness you get with the long and mid irons is sweet with the Pro Combo. I say go Pro Combo.

I just recently purchased a set of Nike VR Pro Combo Irons (3-PW) online for a screaming deal. I love these irons to death, but do have some issues surrounding them. My old clubs that I had since I was 11 were standard length and had the Precision ProTaper shafts in regular flex. Now I'm assuming they are close to what the Dynamic Gold regular flex steel shafts are. The New Nike's are the Dynamic S300 shafts. I can feel the weight difference pretty significantly on some of the clubs and it feels like it is throwing off my swing a bit. For whatever reason though when I get out on the course to play with the Pro Combo's I can hit the ball decently, but at the range (hitting off of matts) I can barely hit the darn things. I'm wondering if switching up shafts to say the Project X 5.5 shafts will help. I noticed they are a bit lighter then the shafts from my old clubs, which may help, but I'm wondering if I should just play these out with the S300 shafts, and see what happens. Any advice would be awesome.
