  2. My 2012 post: Raise fairway % - current 42.9% Raise GIR % - current 36.2% Reduce avg. putts - current 1.89 Reduce scoring avg - current 85.9 Stats are from when I got my Skycaddie. 31 rounds since 8/31. ___________________________________________ 2013 stats: FW% - 48.6% GIR% - 42.1% Avg Putts - 1.89 Scoring avg - 81.9 Played 64 rounds of tournament and casual golf in 2013 Scoring index dropped from 9.4 to 6.1 All goals were accomplished except for lowering my putting stat. I had it lower a month or so ago but a late season putting massacre rose my average back up. I will blame it on the time change and the lack of practice.
  3. 3/15 - Warrior Gofl Club, China Grove, NC - Blue Tees, 70.2, 129, 6193 yds 41-41=82 with 2 dbls and 1 birdie. 34 putts, 9 f/w, 6 gir 3/17 - The Tradition Golf Club, Charlotte, NC, Green Tees, 70.9, 133, 6484 yds 42-39=81. 2 birdies. Did scramble well to save pars and bogies quite a few times. 31 putts, 5 f/w, 6 gir. Not a good ball striking round. In trouble too much off the tee.
  4. I was sitting in a fairway bunker 127 yds to a front pin. Took 9i and hit it hard. Ball landed in the middle of the green and spun back about 15ft to within a foot of the hole. Easy birdie.
  5. Years ago when I was a member at a course my best round was a 74. Shot 32-42. Quit playing for many years and just got back to playing about 6 months ago. Recently started playing on the Golfweek Amateur Tour to fill a competitive gap and shot what I consider my best round ever. Ironically it was also a 74 (36-38) but to do it in a tournament meant that much more to me.
  6. I played in a Golfweek Amateur tournament Saturday. Shot 74 and won my flight (A). 12 pars, 4 bogeys, 2 birdies. Stats were 9 fairways, 12 greens, 34 putts. Two of the missed greens were on the fringe just missing the edge. For the 6 missed greens, I was able to get up and down 4 times for par. Career competitive round for me. Practice is paying off.
  7. My "range finder" is a SkyCaddie SGXw. I find it speeds up play not having to look for markers in the fairway. A few courses around here do not have anything on sprinkler heads. I can get distances to front, middle and back of the green at a glance. I can move my target on the display to give me yardages to hazards, corner of doglegs and layups and yardages to carry hazzards. It really makes playing a new course easier. It also allows me to keep my scorecard and stats like fairways hit and number of putts. When I get home I can upload my rounds to my account on SkyCaddie's website where I can view all my stats to see what I need to work on. The initial sticker price was a shock but after using it for 4 months I really feel it was a good investment.
  8. I never really kept track of my average putts until I got a Skycaddie. I have played 35 rounds with it and am averaging 34 putts/round. My high is 39 twice and have had 3 sub 30 rounds with a low of 24. Very few greens hit that day but my short game was working.
  9. The Carolina Trail courses, 7 courses, in the Charlotte area have a program called Bogies to Birdies. I pay $39.95 per month to get unlimited range balls at my "home" course. I basically picked the closest one to my house. When I want to play on the course I only pay cart fee ($18) after 12pm in the winter at 6 of the courses and reduced cart fee ($10) after 3pm. Before 12, it's full rate. When I play before 12 I can always find deals online somewhere. I usually come out to the good each month. I can add my son to the program for an additional $19.95 but he doesn't want to play when it's cold outside. So counting that $40 and with other courses I play each weekend I would guess I spend about $250 per month on average.

    Mens Games?

I am currently playing in a group that plays every Sunday. In the Charlotte area there is a group of 7 courses that make up the Carolina Trail. Everyone but me is a member of the Trail so they play a different course each week. One of my friends invited me to play one week and was then invited to play on a regular basis. We have two foursomes that play best ball against each other where only the top two scores each hole count. The foursomes are mixed up each week to give everyone a chance to play with each other. Everyone's handicap are fairly close (4-10) where the teams are pretty equal. We put up $20 each and split it up $5 best ball front, back and overall. The other $5 goes towards skins.

    Mens Games?

I used to belong to a club that had a weekly game for members. They played on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Anyone could play as long as they had a handicap or had someone that played regularly vouch for them. Entry was $12. The money was split 6 ways. Points and best ball front, back and overall. Bogeys-1 pt, pars-2 pts, birdies-4 pts, eagles 6 pts. The top 3 scores on each hole were used for points. That way if an odd number of players showed up everyone could still play. Teams were foursomes split by hdcp. For 24 players there were 6 teams. They would fill the teams starting with the lowest hdcp on team 1, next lowest on team 2 and so on to team 6. They were the "A" players. The "B" player with the lowest hdcp would be put on team 6, the next on team 5 and so on back to team 1. The lowest "C" player on team 1 going to highest on team 6. Lowest "D" player on team 6 with the highest on team 1. I hope that made sense. It basically went like this: Lowest A ------------> Highest A Highest B Highest C Highest D
  12. I'm in. Thank you for the opportunity.
  13. In my area we have the Golfweek Am Tour and the Golf Channel Tour. I looked hard at both tours and decided to go with Golfweek. I based my decision on the lower memebership fee and the lower tournament entry fees. Golf Channel's tour is more spread out over the Carolinas where Golfweek is more local for me. I also have a friend that played the GW tour last year and plans to play this year also so I will at least have someone to travel with.
  14. I would tend to do the same as you. My friend is one to not hold back. He is the type that will speak his mind especially when his temper gets the best of him. He can be difficult to play with at times.
  15. Played Stondbridge Golf Club near Monroe, NC. I actually had 2 shots that I was proud of today. # 17, Par 3, 167 yds over a pond. Pin was on the front. Dead into the wind. I hit 6 iron to about 6ft. Made the put to win a 3 hole carry over. The 2nd shot was on a par 5, #7. Striped the drive and was 210 yds out. Pin was on the back of the green. My skycaddie said 223 hole. Hit 3 iron to about 8 ft. Missed that putt but made birdie which was still good enough to win a 4 hole carryover.
