  2. For the year 2014 , my goals are : Play at least 50 rounds for the year Average less than 30 putts / round Average more than 10 GIR / round Average driver distance 225 yds Reduce handicap to less than 10
  3. Having watched my average driver distance reduced from around 230-240 yds ten years ago to barely 200 yds now days , I am ( of course ) very concerned about trying to maintain or regain at least SOME of the former length ! I'm using a routine Jaacob Bowden has given me ( as well as the drills that Tour Tempo teaches ) and my swing speed on the radar has improved considerably , but on the course I haven't seen much improvement yet. I'm also doing PureStirke 5SK work also , and think maybe I'm trying to work from opposite ends of the spectrum as far as my hoped for improvement goes . Does anyone have ideas or suggestions how I might better go about this self-improvement project ? Thanks , Michael
  4. Yesterday , I had consecutive birdies on 6th and 7th holes ! First time EVER to have two in a row . One was on a par 5 and the next was on a par 3 . Both had putts inside of 10 feet (which I often miss under such circumstances). Very pleased , but still only shot 82 for the round . Still anxiously waiting to post my FIRST sub 80 , M
  5. Gotcha ! That makes sense , M
  6. Oooops, I mean : Tiger Woods -13 Jim Furyk -10
  7. But , they are NOT the same score ! In fact in this example , the scores are 4 strokes different , M
  8. Details regarding the blue, underlined rule: - It's very simple guys. The winner is the first person (who satisfies the other rules) to choose the correct winner and score with their first choice. If nobody picks the correct score, the winner is the first person to have the closest score for the correct winner. If nobody chose the correct winner with their first choice, we repeat the process for everyone's second choice. I'm not clear about how this possible scenario will be judged : Suppose that 2 people have the correct winner , and one of them chooses a score 2 shots better than the winning score while the other chooses a score 2 shots worse . Since both scores are equally near the correct score is it a tie , or does one or the other choice carry more weight ? Thanks for clarifying , Michael
  9. Going up for the U S Open (will be at the Monday and Tuesday practice rounds) ! Love watching the players hit balls on the range , and the practice green , M
  10. I have exactly the same problem ! I think that because I"m such a visual person , it's nearly impossible for me NOT to watch the shadow because the movement of the shadow draws my eyes to it . My golfing partners have joked me many times about my complaint because they don't have the issue . I dislike it because during the time I realise it's happening , my reaction is to feel I need to hurry the remainder of the swing . Usually the results are not good ;) ! Maybe someone on the forum can offer suggestions to remedy this frustrating challenge , M
  11. Augusta National doesn't have just a huge influence.............................rather , they totally dictate what CBS does . Remember the banning of Gary McCord when "during the network's coverage in 1994 , he remarked that the 17th green was so fast that it seemed to be " bikini-waxed ", and that " body bags " were located behind that green for players who missed their approach shots. Augusta National Golf Club , which organizes The Masters, used its influence with CBS to have him removed from The Masters commentary team. While McCord has continued to cover virtually all other golf events aired by CBS, he has yet to return to Augusta with the network". Most of us watching just thaought it was typical Gary being funny................................but ANGC was NOT amused !
  12. Erik and Mike, Thanks for these posts ! I think you've really helped my short game now . Until I used this method ( about 2 weeks ago ) I'd always used Dave Pelz dead hands , multi lofted wedge techniques to good effect. But in recent months , my 80 to 20 yd wedges have produced MANY shanks ( sorry , I hate to use that word ). Now thanks to you guys , I've gotten great results , and NO hits off the hosel ! Why do you think my Pelz style efforts were so subject to the dreaded S's ? I just can't figure it out . No matter , I LOVE my new short game . And again , thanks for presenting it so clearly , Michael
  13. Can anyone tell me what the rules are when a player during the course of a round improves by a stroke , and his name immediately goes up to the top of the other names who are at the same number . Is this the way it's always done , or is there more to the placement than what I've stated . I also seem to see that in the opposite case ( a bogey ) his name then seems to always go at the bottom of the list of those with the same score . A friend says the position is determined strictly by WHEN the player reached his number ( that is which hole he attained 3under for instance ) I can't find any reference to this arcane question . Thanks for helping me understand , Michael
  14. I love watching Boo play ,but after our Maryland game in the ACC Tourney, us Duke grads need to see Streelman win this thing ! Miguel
  15. Logman, The easiest way foir you to answer your question yourself is very simple : 1)Just take a baseball ( or a golfball , or any ball ) and stand with your feet planted and not moving 2) Now keep your weight evenly distributed 50/50. 3)Throw the ball as far to the left as you can...........keeping the weight evenly distributed ! 4)Now throw another ball with the feet anchored , but allowing youself to rotate, and move your center of mass forward as you will undoubtedly instinctively WANT to do in throwing. I'm betting you throw the second ball way further than the first ! JMHO, Miguel
  16. I'm guessing that the weight distribution in all 3 is around 50/50 ! So , my answer is 50,50,50 . It just looks like that could very well be the case , even though the poses make it look ( at first ) as if there are major differences , Michael

  18. This question may have an obvious answer to most , but it perplexes me . The release , which is completed after impact by the time the arms reach 3 o'clock by "swiveling" (as Lynn Blake describes in the video in post #5) seems to allow the club face to lay flat against the inclined plane of the swing . This seems to be nearly the same relative position of the club face to the plane that we strive for at the top of the backswing ( neither open or closed) . That being the case , why is there no mention of a counter rotation (swiveling) of the club/left arm during the back swing ? Instead there are all the references to dorsiflexion and pronation of the left wrist causing the opening and closing of the club face . Now , my question is how much of the closed or open position at position #4 is actually caused by the rotation ( swiveling) of the left arm in the backswing , and how much by the wrists ? Please excuse the question if it's too obvious , but the geometry of how this occurs escapes me , Michael
  19. Highlander, I'm the same age and have experienced the same frustrating loss of distance . In the last 10 years my handicap has gone from under 10 to my current 15.5 . Ugh ! Recently , I began the workouts that Jaacob Bowden recommends on his website : Swing Man Golf Online Training . So far , in only a couple of weeks my driver swingspeed has gone from around 95mph to over 100mph ( when measured with the SwingSpeed Radar ) ! I'm very pleased , and expect to get up to near 105-110mph as I continue . If not , even the speed I've already gained is appreciated . I'll keep you posted , and I'm looking forward to hearing other comments , Michael
  20. Quote: Not really no. Neither I, nor Dave or Chuck, had anything to do with that book, have never SEEN the book, have sought to have it removed, and we don't encourage anyone to buy it at all. And that's all I'll say about that. Darn , wish I'd read this post about 10 minutes earlier ! I have watched my DVDs many times , and am already seeing great progress................so I ordered the Kindle book thinking it would be a good supplement . Unfortunately , the book is disturbingly hard to read because ALL of the photos are labeled wrong ( kinda defeats the purpose ). Other than that , I think the info is right on . I would warn everyone to be happy with the DVDs , and look forward to the online additions Erik alluded to when they become available ! Michael
  21. Shawn, What's the software you are using here for your stats ? Thanks, Michael
  22. Wow ! Vegas , I think you've done amazingly well in a few short months ! I'd love to see your videos from the start played with/beside this current set . Now that you are swinging at a ball ( and in this latest video , it wasn't getting airborne ) it seems that you may be sort of "picking" at it even though your positions look so good. Maybe using Bobby Clampett's suggestion of looking at a point about 4 inches in front of the ball will help you get over on the left side a little more , and give you contact with a descending club head , and move the lowest point of the swing out ahead of the ball . You're NOT flipping at the ball , and seem to have a flat left wrist.............all of which is awesome ! Keep up the good work, Michael
