  2. Yes I think those would be good for what you said you were intending to do. If I went to your same place with the yardages you told me I would only bring a PW, SW and Putter. Practice with the 3 wood at the range. It would also help to have a mid iron to practice with at the range, maybe a 6I or 7I.
  3. It all depends on how long the holes at the pitch and putt are. We have a par 3 course close to my house, and most of the holes are from 100-150. It does have 2 holes that are in the 160-190 range depending on the tee and hole placements. For me at that course I use everything from my 3H, 4H, 5I, 6I, 7I, 8I, 9I, PW, SW and Putter. The best thing for you is making consistent contact with the clubs you do have. IMO, yes you do need a SW unless you are good enough to never go in the sand. The way a SW is designed makes it easier for you to hit a ball out of the bunker than other clubs. That doesn't mean you need to use the SW in the bunker. I have a friend I golf with who uses his PW out of the sand, which works for him. Do you have a friend who has clubs that you could borrow and use at this pitch and putt to see what you really would use?

  5. I have had the same issues with my Driver from time to time. I am not an expert so I am giving you what I personally do to fix these issues when they come up for me. I have an RBZ 10.5 Stiff shaft. If you want expert advice my suggestion is to video your swing and post it here so the guys can evaluate what you are doing. When the ball stays low off the tee for me it's because I have the ball teed up too far back in my stance. When I hook the ball it is usually because I am using all arms and don't use my legs or have very limited legs in the swing.
  6. Welcome. A 5 wood is not the same as a 5 iron. My 5 wood has a 19 degree loft and goes about 200 yards and my 5I has a 25 degree loft and goes about 175. My suggestion is to get a full set of clubs from Dick's or another sporting goods store. You can find decent beginner sets that are inexpensive and you don't have to do it all piece mail, probably for the same price. This way you have all of the clubs when you decide to switch to playing on a championship course.
  7. That would be winter and spring for me. Summer and the beginning of fall are usually in the high 90's and 100's. Yesterday it was about 101 and was muggy and just felt disgusting. I walked off the course after the 11th hole because it was just too much to walk. I do not mind cold, rain, fog, wind, anything but the temp in the 100's.
  8. No idea. I have the same issue with my phone. I use Golfshot, and I can't use it's full functionality because my phone will only make 10-12 holes. I know that iPhone's have an extra long lasting battery you can buy, but I haven't seen anything like that for other phones. I use my skycaddie for on the course gps and then use Golfshot at the end of each hole or round to input all of my stats. Good luck.
  9. LOL. I remember that one. I was one of the guys who gave him congratulations before we knew it was actually a hole in 5 because he put 2 OB first or something like that.

Was planning on playing 18 but I was walking the course and it just got too much. Started getting into trouble off of the tee again.
  11. Power of suggestion...I asked the question this morning about my 9 hole scores not combining and now I see a combined score on my list. The only problem is that they included the wrong ones. The last 3 9-hole scores of mine were 47,46,43, and they were all within my last 20 rounds so that is not the issue. The combined score posted today was an 89 (46-43). What happened to the 47? No idea but I guess it's better than nothing.
  12. Sounds like it is more an issue of the wolves not the weak player. One thing we do sometimes is add up both player's scores for that hole, so they get a team total. This prevents a guy from trying to do crazy shots when his partner is already safe on the green, or even picking up when he is totally out of it. This way it is truly a team not just luck. We also switch between left/right and wolf to break up the games. No matter what games we play we still do greenies and fewest putts each nine.
  13. If you are Player B and are in a foursome, at most he can be the wolf 5 times and be non-wolf 13 times. So how does he make money if he rarely contributes to his team? Interesting idea about adding the FU part though. I can see this coming into play when the wolf hits a terrible tee shot and so do Player's B and C, while Player D hits a great drive and wants to piggy back on someone else.
  14. Congrats! Still waiting for my 1st.
  15. I was thinking about the possibility that they don't get combined until a revision, but I don't remember that happening in the past. I thought they were posted quickly like 18 hole rounds were. I will wait until the 15th and then check again. Just getting excited because this time last year my index was 24.7 and I think my index at the next revision will in the 16's.
  16. I would probably put either "relax and have fun" or "it's just a game" on my ball. Those are usually the thoughts on my mind when things start to go bad. If they would enter my mind sooner I might play a little better.
  17. I have had 3 9-hole scores, maybe 4, in my last 20 rounds and none of them have combined to post to my handicap. I am a member of the NCGA. The 3 9's that I am sure of were on April 7th, July 5th, and July 7th. When I post 18-hole scores it is visible on the internet that day or at the latest the following day. The April 7 should have combined with the July 5 round. Anyone have this issue come up?
  18. For some reason I am unable to upload the photo that I took of the back of my course's scorecard, but here is what it says. Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Green Rule 24-2. If a ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball intervenes with the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief without penalty. Not sure why it says Rule 24-2 though? Rule 24-2 is about immovable obstructions but only refers to stance and swing, not intended line of play.
  19. At my course there is a local rule that states if the sprinkler is within 2 club lengths of the green and your ball is within 2 club lengths of the sprinkle and in the intended line of putt you are able to take relief without penalty.
  20. The only time when I ask someone if they want the flag pulled, is if they are attempting a short putt from just off the green. I would say 90%+ either don't want it in or don't care if it is in, in that scenario. Other than that I only pull it if asked to do so. The thing I find that is bad etiquette is when you are away and ready to hit your putt and they are just standing by their balls not pulling the pin and making you do it. For some reason there a few guys I play with who will never remove the pin or place it back in when the hole is over.
  21. You just described me a bunch of years ago. I was always able to spot a 1 foot square hole in the branches of trees, that if I hit it just right I could not just get out of the trees I would be on the green putting for birdie. 99.9999% of the time it never came close and then I would be even worse off. Then my thinking would go to, oh crap! If I don't hit this one on I have no chance of making par. After about 3-4 of these shots I would realize that I couldn't hit the little white ball through a forest and just punched it out hoping to avoid a double digit score. The reason why I would attempt this nonsense is because the .0001% of the time it would work. I have since learned my lesson. It is better to bogey than to card a 8,9, or higher and ruin my round.
  22. I like to use my 5 Iron for the situation you described. I find the 3 or 4 sometimes isn't enough loft and sometimes it will not make it completely clear of the rough and trees. I hit it very similar to the way Shorty described. I play the ball in line with my right foot and open my stance a little, almost like when I chip.
