  1. I agree in some respects. What a difference it makes when guys don't fold! Of course, IIRC, Rocco Mediate was pretty darn solid last year at Torrey so not everyone folds.
  2. I've never seen Tiger putt that poorly. He struck the ball rather well all day it seems. Usually he makes at least one decent putt but today he made zero. Props to Yang, aside from that 3 jack on 17 he was really solid. Good for him. My prediction sure looked good on Friday, but boy did it blow up!
  3. Snowman, that's gotta hurt, Gene.
  4. Remember Caddyshack ? That course is now called Grande Oaks (formerly Rolling Hills) in Davie, FL. I played in a Member-Guest there years ago. The course was redesigned by Ray Floyd in the late 90's. Anyways in the shootout, there were 8-9 teams or so teeing off from the 18th hole. Every single team played the hole down the adjacent 4th fairway which was the oddest thing I'd ever seen. The 18th wraps around a big lake, dogleg left. The 4th is on the other side, dogleg right (played opposite way). I thought it was really a terrible decision, and a great example of herd mentality. The tee shot was about equally as difficult, and the approach to the green was actually harder. You had to play over a big oak tree, and the green sloped towards water rather than back to front if you had played normally. It was like watching a train wreck. Very few pars were made if I recall. Maybe 1-2 out of 8 teams and 16 players.
  5. Good points...I tend to still like the guy. I don't understand him sometimes but still like him. One thing I will say is that John Daly has always been an extremely fast player, we all know this. The fact that his fast play seems to make him look careless seems to affect people's judgement of him, more so when he doesn't play well. He's obviously got some demons but I don't think you do all that traveling and make all that effort if you don't care. The guy is a strange bird but to me, a breath of fresh air sometimes.
  6. Yep, you nailed it. In today's coverage they were talking about the differences statistically. One guy averages 30 putts a round and is 170th on tour (or whatever) and goes to the nationwide tour. Then he supposedly cleans up his act and averages 29 putts to place 7th on the nationwide in putting. In birdies, I think Adam Scott was something like 104th in birdies on tour with 3.25 per round. Anthony Kim is 2nd with 4.25 per round. Percentage wise a big difference but that's just one more birdie, one shot per round. It's really tight out there!
  7. I don't "act" like anything. I made a prediction and simply reminding everyone. Furthermore, if you were privy to the thread, you would know that at least a few folks were claiming that something was seriously wrong with Tiger and his swing. In that light, I made the prediction that nothing was wrong with his swing, and that he would regroup to win the PGA by 5 shots. Considering the fact that Tiger hasn't won a major this year, and also considering that the prediction was a very significant margin of 5 shots, I'd say it was a fairly bold prediction at the time, especially for the Chicken Little's. By the way, I would never "predict" that Sergio would win at a major. He is weak and grossly overrated.
  8. He makes eagle on 13 or whatever and throws the ball in the water. What was that all about?
  9. I just want to remind everyone that I predicted Tiger would win by 5 shots. This was back on one of the British Open threads and it was before he won the last two tournaments as well. Just a reminder! I believe basherbaker said he was going to hold me to it.
  10. im playing ocn the weekend of Sep 11th. I'll let you know how it goes!
  11. Love Donald Ross, really like Fazio. Not so much Pete Dye.
  12. I recently met some members there who obviously love the Ocean Course, but prefer the River Course there. Hope to play someday. I bet it was pretty hot, eh?
  13. I felt the same way, all for a gimmicky hole. Augusta is my one course Scotland/Ireland is my region Kohler, Wisconsin or Bandon Dunes are my two resorts of choice.
  14. I should clarify that I'm stricly talking about the golf course and its features, not how busy it is. Most of the greatest courses on the planet are packed to the gills. Nonetheless, they are still the greatest.
  15. I think you are looking at it the wrong way. The idea is that attitude is everything. A good friend of mine played pro baseball and retired a few years ago. He said something very similar. Basically if you don't walk into the ballpark everyday thinking you are the best hitter there, you are doomed to failure. And of course you know that the best hitters fail 7 out of 10 times.
  16. I would say short game as well, but lately I have neglected it and the results have been predictable...it's gotten worse. As far as ball striking goes, getting my left wrist flat at impact seems to have helped a bunch. I was scooping (cupped left wrist) it before which causes all sorts of issues, not the least of which is loss of power and ridiculously high ball flight.
  17. Website doesn't seem to give in-season rates but if the rate you quoted above is true, this is pretty good for Florida. I'll try to drive up later in the year and give it a shot. I will say that this part of the state has some really nice terrain that is conducive to great golf courses.
  18. Tiger doesn't need a new coach, nonsense. Furthermore, he doesn't need Butch Harmon. Anyone who saw that swing knows it was too laborious. I think his swing now looks much more natural, repeatable, and sustainable. The people calling for a swing change are the same people calling for a football coach to be fired after a team misses the playoffs one time in 5 years. My prediction stands that Tiger will gobble up Hazeltine.
  19. Again, using kids is a copout. Yes kids imitate people. But kids also tend to imitate people they can relate to. I love Tom Watson now (I am 32), but when I was a kid, I couldn't relate to an older guy that was even tempered and distinguished. I COULD relate to somebody who was fiery and expressive. The fact that you saw a kid that cloned Tiger is not surprising. If there wasn't a Tiger on Tour, he'd be cloning somebody else. Some kids are just like that. Like Iacas said, we have to keep things in perspective, he is getting upset, not committing acts of a felon.
  20. I think you have the most brief and accurate post so far. In match play, I will concede such putts to the other team ALL the time so as to avoid one partner giving another partner a read. My understanding is that they must pick the ball up when conceded. This type of strategy is what makes four-ball match play even more fun than the average game.
  21. Do you practice using any putting drills? Maybe you're just not practicing smart.
  22. Man, you really are a swell guy!
  23. Regardless of where the truth lies, I thought it was a funny story, and can certainly think of some vanity 'cappers' myself. I'm sure people thought I was one of those when I was a teenager. My dad was one of those guys who thought more of his sons abilities then maybe was the case. People would always come up to me and say things like "I hear your a hell of a golfer" which was overshooting a bit.
