I was very proud of myself the other day when I shot a personal best 3 over 39 on my home 9-hole. 4 bogies, a birdie and a balance of pars.

Keeping hips at tush line

Could someone explain early extension and "the wall"? I've never heard these terms.:-\ -
Just for fun - If you HAD to only play with seven clubs?
Pinseeker81 replied to Gatsby1923's topic in Golf Talk
I don't use seven different clubs to play my course now. I could go out with a 7I, 56º and putter and probably shoot better than I do with the other clubs. -
I've only ever had 2 birdies, and they weren't in a row. I can string the pars together from time to time, though.

Handicap versus Clubhead Speed/Driving Distance
Pinseeker81 replied to johnny_14424's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I hope this is true. It means +2 or +3 should be right around the corner The way I stunk up my iron shots today suggests otherwise. -
Today was one of those days that make you question if you should bother playing anymore. Last Thursday I went +3 over six holes (it got dark). Today o got to play the whole 18, and shot a 55 on the first 9, and 51 on the second nine. I just couldn't swing the club today to save my life! I'd duck hook one, then slice the next one, then a pull, then a push.... I was chunking them fat so bad I thought I was going to strike oil. I shot a bloody 10 on a par five that I was inches from birdieing the other day.

Putting - looking at the hole, not the ball
Pinseeker81 replied to mhenrickson's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have fantastic results looking at the hole on lag puts. I don't think hitting a baseball is a good analogy. Golf balls aren't coming at you on an unpredictable path at 90MPH. It's more like shooting a free throw. You don't stare at your hand, you stare at the hoop. I also think it's like throwing darts. I tend to do better if I focus on the target and let my mind and body work out the physics. That being said, I still try to make myself do it conventionally, despite doing it better the other way. -
My apologies to the mod that had to combine these. I didn't realize I had already posted one two years ago, lol.

I've been Playing Golf for: Maybe a cumulative year out of the last 20. My current handicap index or average score is: Low to mid 40s over 9. My typical ball flight is: Straight or a fade. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: At this point, probably the occasional fat shot. Videos: These are a bit old, but a good representation of my swing. I will try to get some more recent ones to post soon.

I'm getting my official handicap in January, and am trying to rack up some scores to enter, and in the meantime I'm recording rounds in Scorecard, but didn't know how to enter partial rounds.
-
Thank you, sir. How would one figure out how many extra strokes to card on the unplayed holes if you don't have an official handicap yet? Best guess, or do you assume maximum handicap, or?

How many years of practice to hit a Driver 270+ yards?
Pinseeker81 replied to ponyboy's topic in Golf Talk
I've always been able to, as long as I hit it center. More swish, less smash. -
I was only able to finish 6 holes cause of night time, but I was +3 after the 6. My best guess is the remaining three would have gone another +2. +1 if I was lucky.
-
I did some searching, but couldn't find my answer. It's getting to the time of year that the sun won't allow me to finish a full nine after work at 5:30. I can usually get in 6 or 7 holes before it's too dark to see the course at all. How do you record partial rounds for handicap purposes? Or do you at all?

Goals that you have set for yourself that are actually achievable
Pinseeker81 replied to liquor box's topic in Golf Talk
Get an official handicap, which I will do right after the first of the year, since they don't pro rate the annual fee. Get handicap to scratch, which I could probably do (or at least low singles) in a year if I played a couple of times a week. My problem is that I'll play hardcore for a few months, see something else shiny and quit playing golf. -
Putting: Starting from scratch
Pinseeker81 replied to nick1998bunker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think the third video shows your problem. You should be putting AT the hole, especially when you're a foot out. (that was humor, for those who may not recognize it ). I'm no teacher, but your stroke doesn't look that bad to me. EDIT: It kind of looks to me like you're swinging through and out away from your body, instead of rotating. The putter head seems further out from you at the end of the stroke than it does at contact. -
My first was on a well struck shot that was straight as an arrow. With perfect speed and distance it just missed the rotating windmill blade, bounced just right off the clown's foot, and went in dead center.

I hit a 75 or 80 yard wedge that rolled to 6". If it had dropped I'd have saved par, too.
-
I used to prefer being in the rough back when I was under the mistaken impression that I needed to get under the ball. Nowadays, I like the grass as short as possible.
-
I've gotten to where I only close my stance an inch or two to draw. If I close it too much I feel like I'm trying to hit something behind me. Then I'll play the ball 3 or 4 inches back in the stance. The realization that I could change my shot shape with forward/backward ball position was a major "aha" moment.

For some reason gripping and swinging clubs has been leaving me with bad pain in the first knuckles (the ones closest to my palm, not my fingertips) of my middle and ring fingers of my right hand. The pain radiates a bit when I make a fist, and the knuckles like to pop. It lessens after a few days away from playing, but then flares again when I do. Has anyone else had this? Grip problem? ....knuckle stretches?
-
None of them, thank goodness.

What would you do with your wedges?
Pinseeker81 replied to Pinseeker81's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'll take my range finder out to the range and try to get some exact gap yardages. FWIW: My 50 has a true temper s300, and my 56 has an s400.
