  1. I would stick the offenders into a prison cell with a couple of deviant 280 pounders. Then I could shout through the bars "get in the hole!"
  2. Being able to hit the long irons well is a great indicator that my swing is going well. If I used the hybrid for all my long fairway shots I would feel I had taken the easy option. When the 3 iron starts to fail on me I know it is time to work a little harder on the swing to get it back. Having the ability to play 2,3 and 4 irons well is a must if you want to play at a high level. Unless you use them, you will never realise the full shot making potential that they possess.
  3. A hybrid is a useful tool if you really want to cover the distance and you have little confidence in the 3 iron. However, if you really want to improve to elite level, you will have to learn how to shape your long irons. From 210 yards I will usually try and cut a 3 iron in and hold the green. If you have problems covering 200 yards+ from the fairway on a regular basis use a hybrid. If you want a club with flexibility and real shot making potential, the 3 iron is far more potent than a hybrid.
  4. Put very simply, he plays in the Masters because he can. He worked his nuts off trying to win the thing, now he is enjoying the fruits of his labours. Besides, he was always incredibly fit and this has stood him in good stead. Good luck to him I say.
  5. I recently changed to a Mizuno Bettinardi Black Carbon Series Putter. It never occured to me that the putter was a club that needed a proper investment. My local supplier let me try out half a dozen putters. In my opinion, this is a beautiful feat of golf design. It looks beautiful and it is so wonderfully balanced. Given the high percentage of your strokes that are made or lost on the green, it is worth while giving this part of your equipment the investment it deserves.
  6. I started at the age of 13 when I got my dad to bend a piece of iron they use in concrete into the shape of a putter. After a few months of diligent practice I was bought a Johnny Miller California 6 iron which I used for ages. Eventually I joined the best club in town, only to be disillusiioned by the snobbery and pettiness of the men in blazers. At 16 I had given up, but a year ago I picked it up again as means of diffusing some tension. I am glad I started so young as it meant picking it up again now has been much easier. I knew the technique, I just needed to put the hours in.
  7. R7, I think you are being a little hard on yourself and also people like Peter Uihlein. You have every right to feel aggrieved at the extra handicap that not being as wealthy as some other has put upon you, but it depends on how you use channel it. If I was in your position, and being a 2 handicap you should be applauded, I would not get mad, I'd get even. Don't look so much at what you are lacking, look at what you have achieved. You have your own battle ahead getting down to scratch, don't lose your focus by being affected by others. I wish you well
  8. I borrowed my friends Dunlop "Loco" which is a 460cc 9.5* budget driver, and my did that baby launch a ball! I am 6' 5" and 260lbs....the club cost $40.00 and and was 20 yards longer than my Nike. Just goes to show that Dunlop make a decent budget club
