  1. I regularly play out at Oxmoor Valley which is one of the RTJ sites in the Birmingham area (Ross Bridge being the other and right down the road). OV has a decent practice area with a large range, chipping/putting green, and a bunker practice area. My only beef is that the range is down hill so it is hard to gauge your distance. I have not been out to RB do to the $$$ but I know it has a range. Oxmoor Valley also has 2 regular 18s and an 18hole short course. Both OV and RB are located on the Hoover side of town.
  2. I am going to play Craft Farms on friday (another Arnie Course). Supposed to be pretty nice. Kiva Dunes and Peninsula are both nice, too (KD is a little nicer). They are on the Gulf Shores side though. How did you swing free golf?
  3. Checked it out and I like it alot. keeps track of alot of stuff, great interface.
  4. Better just use them for practice then. I wonder if there green side behavior is affected too? Doesn't seem like they would be.
  5. I believe the balls turn brown from algea and what not. You can usually just wipe it off. Do they actually absorb moisture though? It wouldn't be a hard expiriment: weigh some balls, put them in water, weigh them at different time intervals, see if there is a difference. I have an intrest in this since I pull balls out of ponds and creek frequently a play with them. I have never been able to tell a difference...but thats not saying alot.
  6. If you are looking to save some money, run to wal-mart and pick up some starter moisture wicking socks (i.e. not cotton). they are prolly a 10th the price of UA but only slightly less quality. Food for thought: No reason to have all this moisture wicking clothing if you are still wearing cotton underwear.
  7. I have a 6mo. old. I scheduled him some lessons because his stance is wrong and he tends to slice it. Seriously though, I can't wait to take him out to the course. Guess I got to get him standing first.
  8. Anyone else having trouble with Masters.org I can't seem to access the site anymore, much less the video feed.
  9. Thats what I was afraid of.
  10. Will most golf stores (edwin watts, golfsmith) allow you to demo wedges for a round or two? Or do they limit you to hitting in the store?
  11. Those definately offered alot of the information I was looking for. Thanks
  12. I'm not sure if I follow. are you saying that I should get 3 wedges at the different angles? I guess I just need to spread out the lofts based on my PW? How much shorter will I hit a 60* if I hit my 58* about 90 yards?
  13. Hi, I am fairly new to the site and have really enjoyed reading the forum and have already learned alot. I have recently gotten more serious about my golf game, taking it from playing once every couple months to 3 or more times a month. I played in high school (8 years ago) and haven't really bought new equipment since then (except for my dads old driver and irons). I currently have a 58* Vokey wedge thats probably 8 or so years old (It was a demo I bought then). I use it alot, its definately my go to club for any shot within 80 yards. As you can imagine, the grooves are pretty worn and it doesnt put alot of spin on the ball. I would like to replace it but I am not sure which route to go. I will most likeley stick with Vokeys, probably spin milled. My question is, what is the best way to determine what loft and bounce I want. I honestly don't know a whole lot about the bounce. Does that make a whole lot of difference? Does anyone have any articles that explain bounce well? I was considering going to a 60* to allow for softer landings on my chips. Is the best method just demoing some for a round and see? Will the spin milled allow me check up my chip shots? Thanks for the help.
  14. When I played on the golf team in high school we used to quote Tin Cup all the time. "It's a lock. I hit my 7 like John Daley hits his 3" or "I'm not going left of those trees. I'm not going right of those trees. I'm going over those trees, with a little draw" theres a bunch more.
  15. I believe he was only DQ'd because the incedent occured on a previous day and he had already signed his card. Had he realized his fault before the end of the round, he would have only been penalized a stroke or two. He was DQ's because he signed an incorrect scorecard. Right?
