  1. Hi All, I'm back after almost a decade out of the game, looking for a new club and new clubs 🙂 I have a history of playing for 5-10 years then going AWOL to chase other hobbies (fishing, diving, underwater photography etc). Well its time to come back to golf and it looks like a great time, I am super impressed by all the new toys I can buy. I am just finishing up a masters degree (2 subjects to go) so by mid October, I should be back on the course. Fortunately we get year round golf where i live so I hope to be hitting them relatively straight by Christmas around: Home - Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club WELCOME TO SANCTUARY COVE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB The Members’ A little but of water there, but its a great track! In any case, just wanted to say hi to all. Dave
  2. R M Williams make a leather conditioner that is beeswax and Lanolin, maybe its the same thing, I use it on all my leather shoes, it is very good for the leather, it does however make dust stick to the shoe...R M Williams rfecommend it for their leather boots.
  3. Guys, I have just finished an 11 hole round that was called off due to a very serious downpour, the course was unplayable, but I was seriously wet. I have a couple of short sleeved rain jackets (one sun mountain and one footjoy), neither were cheap and both will leak after some period of decent rain. I purchased a Footjoy long sleeve rainshirt and it was 100% waterproof and suppossed to be breathable, but I have never sweated so much in anything in my life. I live in a warm and humid climate (think Miami) and I do sweat alot, but I simply could not wear the Footjoy product. Can anyone recommend a short sleeve jacket that will keep my torso dry and breath? If it does not breath I end up wet anyway... I am prepared to pay up to $300. Thanks in advance, Dave
  4. I have never seen a club that shreds them better...the spin they develop is amazing, but they are hard on urethane covers
  5. My distances are below, after having read many of these posts, I have concluded that I am not the standard golfer, most people here hit their driver further than I, their wedges shorter and their long irons substantially further...I am starting to think my 4 and 5 irons are defective!!! BTW...I have converted for meters and just added 10%. Driver 265 3 Wood 235 20 deg Hybrid 210 22 Deg Hybrid 195 5 iron 180 6 iron 170 7 iron 160 8 iron 145 9 iron 135 PW 125 50 deg Wedge 110 56 deg Wedge 90 62 deg Wedge 70 Dave
  6. I too am a 17 handicap and have a similar problem, I started on the same path as you, I changed shafts, I changed clubs, I have had lessons and they are the only thing that made any discernable difference. Whilst I had a lot to work on in my swing, the single biggest difference in my ball flight came from: 1. Teeing the ball significantly higher 2. Teeing the ball a long way further forward BTW...the height of the ball and the position are what almost anyone would call normal, I just never realised I had it so low and so far back :( The real issue was my angle of attack, working with the pro and changes in my setup have made a very big difference. Has also helped me become a bit longer, maybe 15 yds or more. For me and I stress for ME, the shafts and clubheads (Callaway Hyper X, Titleist 909D2, Cleveland Launcher, Mizuno MP-630 Fast Track and Cobra S3....all in 2 years and with a multitude of shafts), did nothing except cost me money, the real change was the lessons, but specifically ball position and tee height. Keep your driver and go and see your local PGA member...its a good investment. Dave
  7. I use the ZStar XV, its got low spin off the driver, it works good for me. Personally I really like the ProV1X, its a great ball, but I guess I just like to be a little different, the ZStar XV is a great ball, I do not see any more benefit using the ProV1X, so I will stay with the Srixon. I am a 17 handicapper, I could use any ball and probably not find a big huge difference, I like to stop the ball quick, I drive as good if not better with the ZStar, its not a huge cost for me, so I don't see why I would not use it. I think just pick one ball and use it, even if I am having a bad round and losing a few, I only carry one ball and they are all new, so it gives me motivation to hit them straight. I think it is unreasonable to say "he's a high handicapper use anything" There is some benefit in using one type of ball and if the high handicapper can afford it, why not use it. My other passion is fishing and its way more fun to catch a fish on a GLoomis stick than it is on a $39.00 Dicks special...I feel the same with golf! Just my two cents worth...
  8. Hi I am a sweaty beast and when I wear the 'climacool', 'fitdry' style fabrics, I still sweat really bad, I am wondering if I would be better off in cotton fabrics. Two questions, 1. Does anyone else find this issue? 2. Are there any high quality cotton blend golf shirts that will actually allow your body to breath? Thanks, Dave
  9. Question...if the ball is embedded in the lip such that it is outside the bunker (ie a bunker extends vertically downward so if the whole ball is outside of the bunker), would you then be able to drop outside the bunker. I have never doen this but have seen it, my playing partner hit his shot thin and it embedded in the soil immediately below the turf that formed the lip of the bunker, standing above the ball it was clear that it was NOT in the bunker (assuming that the bunker limits were vertically downward from the defined edge), so we allowed him relief no closer to the hole, is this right or wrong? Thanks, Dave
  10. I just purchased a new set of Cobra S3's and I really like them, well at least all the way up to the pitching wedge. I have come from a set of Mizuno MP-52's (I liked them, just wanted something new and went for a more forgiving option, to be honest, I hit them further (I think loft), but not much else has changed). My issue is that I have always used wedges that were blade style and I am not liking the wedges that came with the Cobra's. It sounds easy enough to simply sub my old wedges, problem is with the 9 iron at like 40 deg, its not an easy thing to do. The PW is 44 deg, I thought about using a 50 (bent to 49) a 54 and a 60 deg wedge, obviously I would buy new ones. I was wondering if anyone had any comments on whether spacing or maximum loft were more important. I currently have wedges from 48 deg to 62 deg in the 'fishing rod rack' (where all bad clubs go :) ). Id appreciate some advice here, I can always learn to hit the 49 and 54 that come with the set and I have a 62deg Callaway X Forged with the MacDaddy grooves that I just put in rotation, its just a lil freaky looking at the cavity back wedges. Thanks, Dave
  11. Thanks very much for the info...the blue monster is looking good right now!
  12. Hi, I am an Aussie and I am going to be in Boca Raton in October for Work. I was hoping to get some golf in and was hoping someone could recommend a couple of nice courses for me? For Country Club's, can you get on as a vistor mid week? I thought about TPC sawgrass, but its a little further away than I expected. Thanks, Dave
  13. I have both a laser rnagefinder and GPS, I find each has their advantages. The accuracy of the GPS is normally pretty good, assuming good satellite coverage, the real issue is that the front and back of the green are rather arbitrary positions and the mid point of these or the centre fo the green is not that relaible, also the flag can vary significantly on the greens at my course, you can have about 5 yards error just with a centre flag position. For front and back of greens, the gps is fine and here, in Australia, we do not have the WAAS(?) system and so error is greater to start with. The Laser is definitely more accurate, but not enough to affect my game. I remapped my home course and at least I know what the front and back positions are for the green and therefore that source of error is eliminated.
  14. I am no doctor, but I have had severe tennis elbow and underwent surgery. Tennis elbow is not only felt in the elbow. My elbow is now great but I have pain in the top of my forearm. Try ice and rest and DON'T let get worse, cause 5 months without swinging a club sucked!
  15. Why be talked out of it...who cares if its not really going to help, if you want it buy it and if you don't have the money for it, then use your credit card!!! :) BTW...I like the white :)
