  1. I'm in. Spent about 40 minutes on the range before playing nine today. Primarily focused on the downswing and getting my arms down faster. I was also very conscience of how I got my weight forward - with the feeling of a circular slide.
  2. Somehow I missed it, what did he do?
  3. What a shot by Rose.
  4. Definitely a matter of opinion and preference. In terms of competition, and therefore prestige or bragging rights, you cannot beat the US Open. Its a larger field, and a more competitive one. So in terms of competition winning the US Open is a greater achievement than the Masters. I would prefer the Masters just for the idea of coming back and being a part of it for a lifetime, whether that is playing or simply being a part of the champions dinner.
  5. Especially with his not looking at the ball, but the line. Mostly its on the short putts, where he looks at the cup, but occasionally its the long ones too. He gets a line and looks at that rather than the ball.
  6. Maybe, but that does not change anything. It may be the youngest major, but the traditions exist and the players themselves value the tournament and the traditions. There is a reason why for many it is the best tournament of the year. There is a reason the players value it so high, and they speak of the traditions. There is a reason Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, and many others return every year. Like it or not the traditions exist.
  7. Surprised too. They (CBS) typically says they try to limit players in the featured groups - ie, not use the same guys multiple days - although it has to occur some. That said, you can count on the CBS coverage following most of their shots unless they really fall behind the lead.
  8. Impressive birdie there.
  9. When they want - they earned it, and the traditions make the Masters. Take away the traditions and while the Masters would still be a major, it would be a shadow of what it is today. I also disagree with ideas such as 'five missed cuts and over fifty' and they should call it. What happens then with the 25 year old with five appearances and no cuts made? Should they not be welcomed back? I know most would say they are young and could compete in any given year, but my point is such a rule (or unwritten rule) equates to a grey line.
  10. @mvmac this (speeding up arms on dowmswing) was my focus with my swing when I mentioned keeping the left shoulder down. My left shoulder was lifting early while my arms were slow down. Any specific feels for you? Are you pulling the arms faster, focused on the butt of the club, etc? Any negative things that could occur from pulling the arms down faster that you should be aware of?
  11. Just over the DC line in Maryland there are a number of options. https://www.mcggolf.com/ http://www.pgparks.com/Things_To_Do/Sports/Golf.htm
  12. For some reason I always forget about my marker and often go to my bag or wallet to see what I have. Usually its an old range coin, but sometimes I end up picking up something off the ground like a wood chip and just use that. Obviously this could be an issue if I was playing in a match - ie, the wood chip could have already been on the green, but right now I am just playing for myself so its no big deal.
  13. Working on a consistent feel for initiating the downswing. I worked on my weight forward and turn a lot over the winter (slow motion, mirror work), but now am thinking a lot about the arms. My arms were getting down late resulting in either hitting the ball thin, or having my hands too far forward at impact and hitting low shots. So now I am trying to figure out what is better for me, pulling the arms down, the left shoulder, the right elbow, etc...
  14. Left arm broken down? One thing that I have been conscience of (not necessarily working on) is my hands at impact. For a time my hands were too far forward at impact resulting in a very low ball flight. Are you saying my hands are too far back now?
  15. Iacas, should the head not be my priority piece? My primary focus was on the right elbow on the backswing and the left shoulder on the downswing. In seeing my swing I realize I am still going too far back on the backswing. I have worked on that a ton in front of a mirror, but once I speed it up I still goes too far.
  16. Can you elaborate more on what the arms/forearms are doing? That is also something I have been thinking about in doing mirror work as I often, when working on positions, readjust where my left elbow is pointing (more out to down.... As in 'tightening' my arm and rotating it down). I don't know why or what I should be doing there, or if it is just something I see and do when working so slow, but in a normal full speed swing it is not an issue.
  17. I am very curious on this too as in many myswing threads I see comments on how at P3 the shaft should be putting at or inside the ball, but on the downswing at P5 it should be pointing well outside the ball. This requires a reroute or "laying off," which I struggle with. I am not sure how exactly to "lay off" the club.
  18. First round of the season was a few days ago on a 9 hole par 34. No par 5's, just two 3's and seven 4's. Played well off the tees hiting 6 out of 7 GIR on the 4's. On the 3's one hit a tree just before reaching the green and fell short, while on the other I came up well short with a very low strong draw. I did not keep many stats or my final score, but had a few pars which was big for me. This was my first time out since May so I was happy with my play. Looking forward to the season and hopefully posting more scores here!
  19. First and third videos cut off for some reason - the V1 software is not finalizing cuts. Working on reinstalling the software now.
  20. First time out and swinging since May. I am looking forward to this season. Hopefully I am finally over my injury which only allowed me to play 3-4 times all of last year, and none at all since May. My focus was on 1) soft right arm on the backswing, 2) limiting my backswing length (which I did not do as well as I thought)(overall not happy with the backswing here, 3) weight forward, 4) arms getting down faster; primary the left arm dropping on the downswing, and 5) not early extending or lifting out of the shot. Previously following my hip bump I would pull my left shoulder up (extending left side, and dropping right shoulder) which caused major casting and topping the ball (and contributed to my chest/rib injury). My previous miss was either hitting behind the ball or pushing weak shots to the right (severely weak and to the right). Playing nine after the practice session I can gladly say that the ball advanced on every shot and while I hit some fat, I made ball first contact on all. I hit 8 out of 9 fairways (mostly 3 wood or mid iron). Pitching and chipping really hurt me. All of my shots were also very low. I have struggled with my hands being too far forward at impact. Many times my hands are well ahead of my left leg and I have delofted a lot. What I see in the videos - 1) Head moves forward a lot. I also dip down more than I thought I was. 2) Left shoulder, after going down to 6 o'clock on the backswing, raises a bit. I am not happy with how my backswing looks. 3) As I was focusing on the arms getting down faster, at times I lead with the arms first in transition. 4) Some major follow through issues. I am currently not doing evolvr as I could not swing forever and did not want to pay for it when I was not using it. Hopefully I will sign up again soon. In the meantime I appreciate any help in identifying a priority piece.
  21. I am reading a book on the history of the game titled "A History of Golf," by Robert Browning. It was written in the 50's and is extremely detailed. His research included many things one of which is studying old paintings and the games that can be seen in the background, while others include the study of language where words are invented or evolve in order to talk about a game or sport. One chapter is on the cross country version of a game that is basically golf albeit with many differences. Browning describes an offensive-defensive game in which a target/hole is picked and the offensive player has three shots (or however many were agreed upon) to get the ball in the hole. If after three shots he has not holed out the defensive player gets one swing before the offensive player gets another three tries. Since distance is not an effective defense (as the offensive players gets three swings for every one defensive swing) the defensive player looks to hit the ball into a difficult place to recover from. So he would often look for difficult terrain, behind hills, in high grass areas, or in sand. In this bunkers exist both due to terrain/geography, but also tactical reasons on part of the defensive player. When the game evolved and the defensive player was eliminated, sand traps remained due to terrain and a construct or challenge to the player.
  22. Quote: Cipher - Your myswing thread is one of like four that I subscribe to and follow. I really like your commitment and dedication, and your swing. I practice in slow motions constantly, but never record or post about those. My goal is to do that this year a lot more. I also really like your list, and plan on doing the same thing - instead of remembering what to look for, or focusing on 1-3 things, making a list of several checkpoints to look at when analyzing your videos. Anyways, I thoroughly enjoy your thread and watching your improvement. Mike - I am confused on these pictures. I read this as your are telling Cipher to have his chest pointing down. But it seems that the chest is a function of the turn - ie, if the left shoulder is at 6 o'clock the chest points to 9, and if you turn any more past 6 o'clock the chest has to point up? In the picture on the right it looks like the chest is pointing up too?
  23. Golf central pregame - they just said the diver returned it to Rory. They didn't say anything else - whether or not he accepted it or what not.
  24. Yeah, I'm not worried about expectations or anything. While I may be young to many on here, I am not young-young holding a part time job. Simply have several months to kill and given my interest in the game thought caddying would be interesting as I picked up the game when I was older and did not have any opportunities to do so. Kind of a way to get in some missed golf experience if you will. More looking for the type of rules you may run into where your player looks over and asks your opinion on a rule. To me the shut up unless asked is a given, though I would not be surprised if that is not the norm.
