  1. Pacific Grove links. It's my go to one on the peninsula but will rotate between it and Laguna Seca when we get too much fog here - which is often!
  2. 11.8 Range session: Overall good session. Took awhile to warm up, but hit decently. Focused on set-up, steeper turn, restricting hips and shoulders and keeping PPs in upper arms. Restricting the hips was easy, but even though I felt that I was restricting the shoulders they still turn quite a bit in these vids and subsequently flatten out my shoulder turn. I do not think that was the case all day - I was probably just focusing on a different feel in these specific videos. Pressure points also broke down when I did not consciously think about them. My misses were pushes right and weak, and in looking at the video it seems that I consistently hit all of my pushes off the toe. Set-up: The additional knee bend James suggested resulted in S-curve in my back. Need to work on this. I am questioning my irons. Even though I was fitted for them it was before I really started practicing and I could not swing at all. When I set-up with the leading edge flat it results in a very upright stance. Submitted these vids to Evolvr (even though I still need to work on the previously suggestions) to check out set-up. 7i - straight draw , high trajectory. 7i - push, strong draw left of target
  3. I think one of the things that those advocating short game are missing is how much of your short game is a result of long-game shortcomings. I do not know, but this is something I would like to see data on. I think it is safe to say that any pitching/chipping on a Par 3 is a failure in long game (obviously there are outlier examples such as aiming outside of the green or at a bunker to intentionally avoid a hazard on the opposite time, but the majority time most are aiming to hit GIR). So any argument that short games saves strokes on Par 3s is out. I guess I am just pointing out that any missed GIR is a long game shortcoming, and therefore any pitching/chipping is a result of this miss, and successful chips/pitches to save par (or whatever) are not statistically viable. To quantitatively prove that short game is more important you would need data independent of long game (which is impossible unless its a Par 3 less than 100 yards) so you take the next best option - a ball in the ideal place in the fairway. A field test to measure the individual then would be take 100 balls (or whatever number), divide them between
  4. Agree - you cannot take away feel - we have senses and no matter how mechanical we want to be, our understanding (and doing) of the actions is limited to our senses. What separates the better players is the degree of the feel, or how fine tuned their feel is. My sport was basketball and a jumpshot for a right handed player is the right upper arm parallel to the ground, the right forearm at 90 degrees and perpendicular to the ground/right upper arm... For the better players who are fine tuned they can "feel" when one of these positions is even half a degree off. Now to two equal players that feel is different, but for both it is a measure of the reality. I am by no means there in golf yet, but assume it to be the same as any other sport in this regard.
  5. Typically any of my wedges (45, 50, 55, 60), but depends on the feel in the moment and how I am doing that day. Lately, I have been favoring the 55*. I tend to not really shorten my swing, but slow it down. So with the 55* I swing the same length, but slower. This may not be ideal but it works for me as I feel I have more control over the speed of the swing rather than the length (backswing length, over rotating and going past parallel are all issues for me).
  6. 11.2 - Implementing some of James' analyses. End of a long range session and some of the components I was working on are breaking down with fatigue, but still decent striking. Good trajectory, good flight, good distance. Primary focus: Set-up, steeper shoulder turn, pressure points in upper arms. Still overrated at times. Not a focus today, but the head is moving a lot - up on backswing, and down/forward on downswing. PW - 135-140 8i - 150-ish 3H - 180-190 - strong draws (elevated landing spot) driver - Pushed a lot today. Played with ball placement and struggled with hitting under the ball and popping it up.
  7. 10.31 - No feed back from Evolvr yet, so I continued to work on a steady head and weight forward. I also focused on a steeper shoulder rotation. Hit the ball the best yet - very high trajectory and a slight draw. Miss was still a push right. 11.1 - Heard back from Evolvr. James has me working on a few things: - Set-Up: - Widen stance, flair out feet more. Slightly more knee bend. Forward shaft lean/hands forward. Bring up my right hand tighter with my left in the grip. - Backswing: - Restrict hip and shoulder rotation/watch over-rotation. - Steeper shoulder turn. - Too much/too soft lower body in backswing. - Upper arm pressure points. - Drill: Short punch shots with above in mind; towel/tee under arms.
  8. I just started working on the 5 keys, focusing right now on a steady head. Other things I am aware of in my swing and that are on my list (I guess now they are on the list when Evovlr says to work on them): - Steeper back swing/less early rotation of forearms - Right leg tends to come up early, often rotated to a "finish" position at impact - OTT at times (more so starts OTT and then falls underneath the line) - Follow through - my left arm folds shortly after impact There are many others, haha, but these are the main ones.
  9. I've been Playing Golf for: 3-4 months My current handicap index or average score is: ? My 3-4 months of playing has been solely range time and Par 3 courses. My typical ball flight is: Draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Push. Not a slice, but a straight push with little power. Just signed up for and submitted the same below videos on Evolvr. 8i DL & FO
  10. Combined with my entire bag I carry: Taylormade, Ping, Cleveland, Callway, and Bridgestone gear. Driver and 3W: Taylormade RBZ Stage 2 Hybrids and Irons (3H, 4H, 5-PW): Ping G25 Wedges (50, 55, 60): Cleveland 588 RTX Forged Putter: Ping Scottsdale TR Bag: Callaway Ball: Bridgestone E5 or E6 I really like the G25 line, but could not bring myself to pay $350 for the driver and therefore went with a Taylormade driver and 3W to match. I also do not like Ping wedges, but am a huge fan of Cleveland's.
  11. What course is this? I always like to check distances on Google Earth on these types of posts...just for fun.
  12. One of the things I have started doing is going to a 9-hole par 3 course regularly. It allows me to practice 110 yards and in shots, and change up practice (from the range), while not paying for a full 18. If you have one in your area (especially if its a single price for unlimited play), then you can go play 18 in less time than a full course 18, with less stress on your body, and work on game scenario short game shots.
  13. Bubba donated the wedge to Augusta - its on display in the Grill Room in the Clubhouse. That's good enough. Amazing shot.
  14. The 17-4 rule says "player or another player authorized by him," - so if your competitor/opponent removes the flagstick without your "authorization" and the ball falls out somehow, what is the ruling? Is he (opponent) penalized?
