  1. For me personally, I don't have any idea where I am in relation to par during the round. I don't add it up at the turn, I don't even think about it. I keep a bunch of stats, so the only time I think about score is when putting down my stats for the hole.
  2. I think that's good advice. I work on 20 footers a lot, since a lot of my approach shots end up at 20 feet. But now that I think about it, if I can get really good at 3, 4, and 5 footers, it takes a lot of pressure off the 20 footers too. I think I'll change up my practice.
  3. I second that. I used to be a Pelz guy, but last season switched to the Utley style. My chipping and pitching improved immensely.
  4. I would respectfully disagree in one aspect: Make chipping and putting your first priority. Ball striking will improve over time. I'm an 18 handicap (index) right now, and my GIR rate is only 17%, which is about 3-4 greens per round. By becoming a better chipper, you effectively increase the size of the green. In fact, I usually would prefer a chip over a long putt (
  5. I'm a long time Palm user and have now had a 755p for about 2 years. I'm holding out for the new Palm Pre when it's released next month. Have you checked it out? If it works as promised, it will easily be the best smartphone on the market, IMO.
  6. My typical round is in the 90's. I started keeping stats (plug for Scorecard 2.0 here), and found that I'm only getting up and down about 27% (last 20 rounds). If I could get up and down 50% of the time, I could save about 6 strokes per round!
  7. I've had that same issue come up, and for me it was that I was putting my weight on my back leg (right leg, since I'm a righty). I use the Utley method of pitching and chipping, and you need most of your weight on your left leg. You pivot around your left leg, and if you get back on your right, you can shank it or chili dip.
  8. I agree with what everyone here has said. When I start to get wild shots, I know my swing has lengthened. Its really easy for me to swing too far back, especially on a hot day when my muscles are loose. I've got to keep thinking "80%, tick-tock" to keep my swing short and smooth. In a good swing for me, my arms go past shoulder height by just a little. The farther past I go, the more I come back over the top. Swinging short helps me keep on a good swing path.
  9. Well, if its free then I'd definitely buy it! :D
  10. Sweet!! That's great news! I hope it's good software, I'd definitely pay a few bucks for it ($20-30).
  11. The golf season here probably isn't as short as in Michigan, but we do have winter, so yes. But the weather here can be very strange. I've played golf in January and February several times.
  12. Good point. My full swing became much more consistent after I learned to "let the club swing me" rather than trying to swing the club. In other words, taking my hand muscles out of the equation.
  13. Just my opinion, but if you want to chase consistency, then spend more time working on your short game and putting. Those things are easier to get consistent because they are smaller motions with fewer "moving parts". Remember, you use your full swing for less than half the shots in a round!
  14. I emailed tech support a few weeks back, and they said "We are expecting to have Voice Recognition coupled with Score Keeping and Shot Tracking available in the upcoming months." Hopefully before the end of the golf season here in Colorado!
  15. Hehe, I'm sure a few people winced at the idea of hitting a wedge off concrete. I just replaced my Vokey 56/11, so I used the old one :)
  16. I have to say "Bingo" to that too!
  17. Bingo. -------------------
  18. I use a fusion of the Pelz method and the Utley swing style. My advice is to go out where you can pace off the yardages and figure out your distances with all your wedges at full swing, half swing (9 o'clock), and 1/4 swing (7:30 on the clock). I personally never had much luck getting consistent contact with the 10:30 swing, but I'm still working on it. Start with getting all your 1/2 swing distances down (9:00 on the clock). This one seems to be the easiest to repeat. After all that, you'll find you have a lot of different yardages that you can hit to without too much brain damage. Put all the different yardages on a card, or better yet, tape them to your wedges.
  19. My 60 has 6 degrees of bounce, but I'm thinking about getting one with either 8 or 10 degrees. I'm an 18 handicap, and last year I switched from a Pelz style short game to the Utley style. My short game has improved tremendously, and I can hit my 56 with 11 degrees of bounce even off hardpan. In Utley's book, he talks about hitting off concrete with 12 degrees of bounce, just to prove that it won't hurt you as much as people think. I tried it, and he's right (at least for me).
  20. Looks like it folds up smaller, per the specs. I'm glad you guys will be reviewing it. I saw the initial announcement on The Sand Trap, but obviously that was before there was a production model.
  21. This push cart looks interesting, but seems like it might be a little flimsy. Can't tell. Has anyone looked at one of these? I don't think they will be out until May 31st, but I've heard that some of the golf expos have some on display.
  22. I think you get one Pro download for free. But note that you can download the Basic info for any course for free. You get yardage to green and all hazards, and the "mark" feature. You need the Pro version of a course to get the aerial views and "measure" feature. Hope that helps.
  23. I stopped using the flyover after about a day. Takes too much time. I use the basic view most, and the aerial views on unfamiliar courses or when I get off the beaten track and need to measure to a specific landing area.
  24. Please let us know your opinions after you've had a chance to use it. Since I'm such a fan of the device I love to hear other people's experiences, both good and bad. Callaway says they are working on a way to keep score on the device, essentially by marking every shot and entering the number of putts. In my dreamworld, you could then upload that data to their website and do all sorts of statistical analysis.
  25. Great point! I forgot to mention that.
