  1. I'm nervous about the gains I've made so far this year depreciating over the winter. This is the first winter where I will have a house. . . so I will have to shovel :-/ but also. . . I might be able to rig up something in the basement to practice my swing. I don't think the ceilings are high enough though. We have a large unfinished basement, I was thinking of maybe getting a turf putting green down there. In the "golf talk" forum there was something about the dan plan, where dan planned on practicing 10,000 hours to go pro. When I read that yesterday I tried to add up my playing time since I started when I was maybe 8-9 and I think I may be at around 600 hours. Almost there!
  2. Sorry to de-rail further but I just joined the WSGA after reading this. One of those coupons will pay for itself. A deterrant for me prior this this post was I thought you had to actually be a member of your home club. Twilight golf at Westridge in Neenah starts at 3pm and it's $23 including a cart. I would have to golf 4 times a week from here on out for a membership to payoff. Although I would love to do that, we just bought a our first house and I have a 4 month old at home and I would be on the fast track to the dog house if I golfed that much. Even though I tell her how am I ever going to go pro if she doesn't let me practice more! (She understands my sense of humor thankfully)
  3. My first time breaking 90 I shot an 83. I shot an even par after 9 holes and then my normal self kicked in and shot a 10 over on the back. I was -3 after the first 5 holes! My handicap dropped down to a 12.5 after that round, but now it's slowly working it's way back up to reality.
  4. Really hoping for David Duval. I used to watch golf a lot right around 2000-2002 when he was great. I strayed from the game for about 10 years and now that I'm back I'm starting to get caught up. One guy I couldn't find anywhere was David Duval. I really enjoyed watching him play 10 years ago but was surprised to see what a slump he's had. I know he's trying to work his way back recently and I think it'd be cool to see him in contention. Having said all that, it'd be cool to see Tiger win as well. Haha
  5. Shot a 100! Lost 8 balls and had 34 putts. That pretty much sums it up! Was super frustrated. I was a little hungover and didn't get much sleep the night before so I think I will blame that, but it's been a few weeks since I've had a good, solid round.
  6. Hello all, My name is Kevin and live in Neenah. I'm 26 as of yesterday, married two years in August with one boy who's 4 months. It's about time to get him fitted for clubs! We just closed on a house June 28 and I'm already thinking about building a putting green in the back yard. I doubt I will ever follow through with it though! My home course I would say is Westridge Golf Course in Neenah. Nice to meet you Tim! Have you golfed Petrifying Springs in Kenosha? I played there earlier this summer when I was in a wedding in Racine. Shot a 92. Not a lot of water, but the rough is rough and the course was not very forgiving! On the way back from the wedding I got a speeding ticket in Racine County on hwy 41, well I think it's hwy 94 down there. Firsrt time ever I pleaded "Not Guilty" so I may have a mandatory court date down in the are coming up. Haha, the ticket can't get any worse, right? Looking forward to meeting everyone, Kevin
  7. I would be interested! I live in the Fox Valley. There are a lot of nice courses in the Dells. It could turn into a nice mini-vacation for the wife and kid also. Really there is good golf courses all around Wisconsin... Racine/Kenosha, Milwaukee, Fox Valley, Madison and the Dells. For the 3 months we are able to play up here any way ha!
  8. Shot a 93 up in Door County. Course rating only 65.8 but man the trees and rough made it very unforgiving. I lost 8 balls! I was hitting my irons a little bit right, I think it's because I used to have a draw, almost a hook really that I would compensate for, but the last few times on the range I corrected that, but then playing I still aimed right. I hope that's what it is anyways haha I also could have putted better. I only had 31 putts, but with only 22% GIR, I should be pitching/chipping much closer to the hole.
  9. Thanks for sharing! This re-newed my thirst for Boardwalk Empire. How cool would it be to have this included in the show?

    Handicap

    Thanks guys!

    Handicap

I re-calculated my handicap using this logic and matched the GolfShot GPS calculated handicap to the tenth, so that's a pretty cool feeling. If only I could golf the way I make spreadsheets *looks out of the window at work*

    Handicap

If I play only 9, and then play another 9 at a different course, from my (minimal) understanding, I would add the course rating's and scores as if they were one round of 18. Would I average the slope as well then? I don't have an official, but I track my handicap using a spreadsheet and compare to GolfShot GPS to make sure my spreadsheet isn't way off base.
  13. Played a new nine-hole course in Osseo, WI (35.0,113) called Osseo Golf & Recreation Center. Shot a 4-over 39. birdie-1 par-4 bogey-3 dbl bogey-1 (lost my tee shot) No pressure, played with my brother. Hit 5 fairways and 4 GIR. No 3-putts. All in all it was a great round for me. Seems like I play best when I'm by myself or with 1 other person. Conquering the mental game is my next step I think! I'll probably follow this round up with an upper-40s or *shakes at the thought* low 50s though. Seems to be the way the game works!
  14. Coming off the best round of my life (83, even par after 9) at a pretty average course (69.1/120), I shot a 97 at the same course. Very demoralizing! Shot a 37,46 for my 83, then a 52,45 for the 97. Just couldn't hit fairways, couldn't putt, wasn't hitting greens with my short irons either. I lost 5 balls also, only lost 1 the round before. I suppose that's the way it goes right, your best round followed by something like this? Time to hit the range!
  15. Before I started keeping track, I estimated I was somewhere between a bogey and double bogey golfer, so around a 27. My best round this year was an 83 (69.1/120) though and I've had others in the low 90s. I plugged in my scores and I'm currently at an 18.4, so I was way off! I'm actually kind of embarrassed that I told some co-workers/friends I thought I was around a 27, because they are really good and now I wonder whether they won't want to play with me! (fear of slowing them down).
  16. After work yesterday I played 18 at a course (69.1/120 from White Tees) in Wisconsin. Played out of my mind on the front 9 and shot an even par. Back nine I was more of my usual self and ended the day +10. That was about 9 strokes better than my best round of 18 this year. Felt really good and all I can think about is the next time I can get out (probably Friday). I'm starting to wonder when I should make the jump from the White Tees to "the tips"?
  17. I'm an accountant at a copper wire fabrication plant in Wisconsin. My job allows for flexibility, so I try to get out 2-3x a week. I'm hoping to get to single digit handicap by the end of the year. I've played golf since I was very young, but only spent maybe 3 summers playing as often as I'd like! Looking forward to chatting golf and chasing scratch! Kevin
