Went to less intrusive banner ads on the bottom and right side I see. Is this bringing in more or less pennies than the adverts back then were? -

I was over at my Dad's last weekend and he had the 2002 DVD sitting in a drawer that he gave me. I've watched it through once and repeated the first and second lessons a couple of times. I haven't really studied McLean's method as he presents it, I'm more on the Ben Hogan 5 Lessons plan right now, but there is alot of crossover. The biggest difference that stood out to me is McLean's very relaxed attitude towards the straight left arm, he seems to feel that it is much less necessary than Hogan does.

"Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" by Ben Hogan

For me I picked up alot of new things when I first read through the book, but I will often discover when I read it through again I will pick up on something that I missed or something that I thought I understood but Hogan meant another way. -
hi guys, beginner here looking for club advice

Sand shots are one of the most tricky in golf and you are new to the game. Don't feel embarrassed, do some reading and watch some videos about methods for handling bunker shots and then practice. -

As for bunker shots, the advise that I've heard that makes the most sense is to blast the sand behind the ball. I have had the most success in bunkers when I hit the sand just behind the ball and the ball goes for the ride. -
Welcome from another newbie!

I like this book, it's very cause and effect. Hogan has a reason for everything he recommends and tells you why. I found it to be a pretty easy read but to truly retain and use everything that he shows you takes some study and practice. I'm in the stage where I've read the whole book and I'm trying to assimilate and implement things as best I can. I still need to find the right swing plane in order to "groove" my swing properly. I should continue to be in a much better place with my ball striking as I go along with this material. -
Cut that tree branch! Nice practice area I must say. Your analysis is pretty spot on. To my eyes, you are popping up when the club gets to about hip level or slightly higher on your backswing. I've been studying Ben Hogan's swing as I learn, he covers the left wrist supination on the downswing, stating pretty plainly that to him all good golfers supinated the left wrist about like so on the downswing.

Thanks Sam!

$20 is a pretty good amount, not playing with real $$, just enough to add a little interest. I would still be in favor of letting 2 or 4 more players in the league before drafting if there was more interest.

At the risk of alienating myself.......
bddarnell replied to WhySoSerious's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I like to stick to dri-fit or similar type polo shirts. As for style, I really try to stay away from what I consider to be trends. I don't spend money on clothes that I feel there is a reasonable chance that I will look at myself in a picture in a few years and wonder what I was thinking. Weird funky patterns like that are much more likely to go out of fashion in short periods of time. Solid color or stripe shirts that aren't overly loud will have more staying power, in my mind. -
That looks pretty spiffy. I just use the camera on my phone and manually draw my swing plane lines on the still images with MSPaint. I'm sure that there are more high tech ways to do this, I just haven't looked for them yet.

Let me just throw my 2 cents into the cell phone/network discussion. My family has two cell phones through a relatively new provider called Ting. They are basically a Sprint re-seller. Let me hook you with one quick detail. The two smart phones that we have typically cost us $27.30 a month combined. That's not a misprint and no they aren't just phones that sit in the glove compartment of the car in case of emergency, we do actually use them. We did however have one high month where things got really out of hand and the bill ended up being $37.42. We just had to buy our phones outright from Ting for about 2 benjamins apiece, but that was before they offered used devices so the entry cost has the potential to be alot lower now. I have been enjoying much lower cell phone bills with Ting for close to a year, I would not go back to the major carriers. Ting.com to check it out, and no I have no affiliation or stake in this company I just believe in their business model.

Wish I could edit my original post, I've got a larger sample size of my swing on 7/6/13 posted. I took down the video I put in the first post think that I could replace it with a longer one. Oh well. New link is below.

I take back alot of what I said about stance and posture, they are more out of whack than I thought. Just throwing that out there in case anyone goes to the my swing thread and watches the vid. Still needs lots of work. I think I'm in decent shape regarding the grip, I started there and haven't been able to poke any holes in it for awhile. Thanks again to Hacker James. -
I really appreciate you taking a minute and trying to give me a pointer. I'll do some additional video analysis of my swing later on, but I anticipate that my posture was largely the same throughout my session. It does occur to me that my back may be a bit too stiff and curving it just a hair more in the upper part would help. I also notice that my field of vision relative to the ball is out of whack. I'll give my posture some attention and try to clean this stuff up. Thanks again!
