You shot a 90? Lol -
I gasped when I saw some neighborhood kids hitting balls off the green with some old oversized irons. They ran when they saw me but I knew them, as they were former students from the school I used to teach. I went over to their backyard and calmly told them that the green was only for putters not irons. I directed them to a nearby field where they could play without destroying the course. They were happy to learn about the course and probably relieved I wasn't scolding them. Some people just have no clue. And yes we've had people fishing, jogging, skate boarding, and even [cringe] riding ATV's and mo-peds on the cartpaths and fairways.

After a round a Shock Top or Blue Moon is pretty refreshing.

This movie was on the Golf Channel last night. It was pretty cheesy, reminded me of The Karate Kid. I give it 3 "oh brothers" and a "give me a break".

If they weren't in the money probably no one would have cared. But no one knew there was a team of five until afterwards. The team that came in fourth should have been third and they were bumped out of the money. One of the fourth place guys sent emails to all the members that were in the tournament and want them to ask for their money back. The money isn't important. It's to send a message to the Head Pro. This is not the first time he's done something similar to this. -

I'll try to answer all of the lingering questions. This was not a charity event. There were 22 couples and each couple paid an entry fee. The head pro received half of the entry fee as he always does. Gift cards for the Pro Shop were paid out to 1-3rd place. Head Pro gets a percentage of profits, for what's sold in Pro Shop. So the prize money goes right back to the Head Pro. The Head Pro told my husband that our team was Too competitive and we could have our money back. We gave him back the gift card and got our entry fee money back. We actually made out $10 ahead. On a side note: one of the members got wind of the extra player incident and is emailing everyone that entered this tournament to get their money back. Stay tuned for more of The Scandal at the Country Club -
Heck Yes! I was a youngster when I played in that. There was a formula they used so you couldn't load up on low handicap players. A, B, C and D players. Remember if you had enough teams signed up they would take the gross as well as a net team? The team I was on won twice. The prizes were like Oldsmobile golf bags, Oldsmobile leather gym bags and other nice stuff. We went to PGA Nationals and Windemere in Naples for regionals. From there The winners, not us

So we had our Couples member/guest tournament today. It's a select shot for the team of four (scramble). This year at the last minute we were informed only the ladies could putt on the even holes and everyone could putt on the odd holes. The team I was on came in second. Afterwards we found out the team that beat us by one stroke had five players on their team. The extra player was a woman who is an excellent player, we were told she only chipped and putted . This mean there was an extra player chipping and putting on nine holes and an extra woman putting and chipping on the other nine hole holes. This team beat our team by one stroke. When we asked the head pro why they had an extra player his response was, "because I can do that". Yadda Yadda Yadda he said it's all about having fun....a social event....not suppose to be competitive. Is it just me or is this not right? By the way the team that won, one of the guys, is the Pros really good friend. Also there was money gift cards involved.

Lateral Hazard, pampas grass and cart path. Where to drop?

Lateral Hazard, pampas grass and cart path. Where to drop?
barbm12thtee replied to barbm12thtee's topic in Rules of Golf
Thanks Fourputt for the ruling. Two club lengths would have taken me across the cart path and into a grassy area. I played in a match yesterday and took one club length from the cart path. All the ladies and I thought it was okay. Guess it was wrong. Oops...now I know. -
I hit my ball into a lateral hazard, a river, marked with red lines. There was pampas grass inside the margin of the hazard all the way to the red hazard line. About a foot outside the hazard line was the cart path. Where do I start my two club lengths measurement for a drop? 1.The edge of the hazard margin, which will go across the cart path. 2. Or do I go to the edge of the cart path, furthest from the hazard? Do I get one club length from cart path and then an additional two club lengths for the hazard? I can't go equi distance to the other side of the river and don't want to go back to where the ball was last hit.

In my Golf League, which I'm a newbie, you putt out. If you pick up its understood you can't win the gross or net prize. Well one of the players missed a short putt and then raked the ball back to the hole and missed that one too. Out of frustration she picked up the ball never putting out. When she was asked her score she said 8, not including the stroke never putted. So it was assumed she was picking up and the scorer put an x next to her score. Well shi@ hit the fan when she didn't win low net and she thought she had. She said I never picked up...oh boy, what a scene. I know crazy woman drama.

Nice story belongs in "Chicken Soup for the Golfer's Soul" or something like that. You both should be proud.

What "grinds your gears" on the golf course?
barbm12thtee replied to villafranca's topic in Golf Talk
I'm a woman and let me start out by saying that it doesn't bother me that there are men only courses. However, I was playing with three gentlemen from my club and there was a single behind us. I suggested we allow him thru on the next hole, a par three, since the course was pretty open in front of us. They refused saying singles have no rights. I always allow faster and smaller groups to play thru if there's an opening ahead of me. Sorry you feel this way about women. -
Forgot to mention this was actually banned from television....best commercial I've ever seen regardless.

My friend that cheats when it's just the two of us, is upping her cheating game. Last two times, playing with Women's Assoc., we were on the same TEAM and playing TEAM points. Money is involved and everyone must strictly adhere to USGA rules. She gave incorrect scores several times on the last two outings. Whenever she is corrected she gets defensive and tries to put up an argument. Then it gets awkward for everyone and then she gives everyone the silent treatment.
