SkyCaddie SG4 for $144.99
Fredguay642 replied to Cheez-It's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I think it is a great deal. I was so mad when I saw it at Cosco the other day. I got the SkyCaddie 2.5 for Christmas from Golf Galaxy with some coupons and stuff but it was still way more (like $100). I searched around alot and I thought I got an okay deal. Anyway, I think if you want to get a gps I would definately get it at costco. One thing, I don't know much about the SG4. It seams to be one of the less popular models. I don't know why. It might just be the shape is a little different. I am sure it would work good. Another thing is my screen goes dark sometimes, It is annoying, so I would watch out for that. -
Where should the calluses on your hands be?
Fredguay642 replied to DavidFehertysBike's topic in Golf Talk
I just got the May "Golf" magazine that had a section called "Callus Analysis." It was really helpful in showing where the calluses should be. The base of the middle to the pinky finger said correct grip. This helped me fix my grip a little and I went out today and on the first hole I hit a drive 325 yards according to my sky caddie (It was down wind, but still a bomb.) I didn't drive like that all day but I played better and shot an 83 with 38 putts. Moral of the story is pay attention to your calluses or where your hands get sore and fix your grip. -
Proably go golfing. But I would try and do both. You basically go to the golf show for the free stuff anyway. So you could go for an hour and then golf.

I have made one. It was on a par five that the round before I hit the same two shots and missed my ten foot putt. So I made it the second time for eagle. It was awesome. But the thing that frustrates me is my little brother last summer had a fluke round and made 2 eagles in the same round. Now I am one behind.

I agree with Drew. I will proably buy a set of vokeys this year so when my current ones wear out. I will still have a set that will be grandfathered in.

I also take off my ring and watch. My wife also take off her rings when she comes golfing. I don't think it is that odd. Just don't lose your ring or you might be in some trouble with the wife.

Titty guys- Anyone sticking with their 907's
Fredguay642 replied to kekoa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I like my 907. I will be sticking with it. I also like the look better than the new 909s. I am proably in the minority, but I think it is a very good club. I would like to put a new shaft in it. I have never really like the aldila that is in it. -
Shot an 82 (10 over) which was good except for the 2 triples that I had. I was going to break 80 for the first time. It is horrible, I was 4 over on 16 holes and 6 over on 2 holes. I will break 80 this year.

I bought the tour chrome, but I am getting oil can next time. I hate setting up for a 100 yard shot hoping to a good look for birdie with the setting sun blinding me by reflecting of my club. Tour Chrome is better at not reflecting then other chrome wedges but it will still blind you every now and then. I have started really digging the oil can look. Plus, they give you bag character. Either way you go it is a can't miss with a vokey spin milled.

Should I change my swing from stack & tilt?
Fredguay642 replied to Fredguay642's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My back is okay, but it does get sore everynow and then. -
First off, I have never taken a lesson in my life. The other day Golf Galaxy had an advantage member night where the teaching pro offered free swing analysis. I have never seen my swing on tape until the other night. But the tape showed that I was really close to the correct stack & tilt positions. I had a little reverse pivot and some swing plan issues as well. The teacher teaches the David Leadbetter type golf swing. He gave me some tips, but it was only like a 3 minute lesson. The reason way I ask is because alot of the things he was telling me are things I use to do. My swing has changed this summer. I don't really know if it is good. I have lost about a club of distance on everything and my driving has be horrible, which in the past was one of my stronger points. But my iron play has been pretty good. I can hit it pretty straight with the stack & tilt, but it is short. So basically I am leaning to changing my swing but I want to be fully committed so I won't want to change back when I play bad. So please tell me what you think. P.S. The motivation of this is that I can't break 80. I have plateaued at the low 80s. I have some 38s on 9 holes that add together to lower my handicap, but I can't keep it together for 18.

I would recommend birdieballs. They look weird at first by they give you a good approximation of the weight of a real golf ball that you don't get with practice balls. You could also try the David Pelz's "Almost Golf" golf balls. They are like a hollow golf ball. They are suppose to go 1/3 the distance, but I think it is a little farther than that. But they are pretty durable and the cover feels like a real ball on the club, but just minus some of the weight.

I am for dress codes. This is coming from a guy when I was in high school that didn't own a collared shirt and really wanted to play a nice course in the area so I went in the nicest shirt I had and the club house actually had me wear employee shirt so I would meet the dress code. I don't think they need to be over the top, but they help people have respect for the course. Here is a little rant because last night I went golfing and the group in front of us was out to get a tan (i.e. no shirts) and so I called the club house because there is hardly ever any rangers out. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but they got called into the club house when they were done. I don't know if I overreacted by patrolling the course or if I should have just let the clubhouse take care or it.

I agree with you. I don't own a hybrid, but with all the hype about them I tried several. I end up with a big slice. I hit my long iron pretty good and I like the challange. But those hybrids are hard for me to hit. I don't think I have ever hit a good shot with one yet.

This question was basically answered a few months ago in a Golf Digest but it was across a train track. The ball is in play, but I would suspect that course rules don't allow players to hit golf balls over road on purpose, I play a course that has that rule. So, the ball proably should be considered out of bounds.

I just found another theard named "FT-5 vs. FT-5 Tour" kind of answers you question. Look it up. but tradewind_golfer wrote "Picked up the FT-5 Tour 10.5* neutral with the stiff E-360(?) shaft. This is definitely a "tweaked" version of the standard model. Ok, here's what I notice: 1. It's a bit heavier and feels even more "stable" throughout the swing 2. The COG does seem just a touch higher (the 10.5* tour launches a bit lower than the 10*) 3. Misses tend to be spread out more evenly left and right of center (not all left and more left like with the regular FT-5). 4. The .5* open face is hardly noticeable but perhaps subconsciously it looks like you can let it go." Hope it helps

I switch from a 8.5* knock-off Titleist to the 907D2 9.5*. So that is only 1* degree of loft but my ball flight is alot higher now. I really liked the low penetrating flight before and it had more roll. I don't know much about the FT-5 but simply talking about loft I would go with the 9* because the 10.5* would likely go really high. P.S. The shaft has a lot to do with it to. My old shaft was heavier and had a lower kick so now my new shaft hits it alot higher and it makes the ball fight way high with the high shaft and the loft diffierence.

Search this topic. There was a big thread about this not to long ago. I was really good. I am leaning to Golflogix when I finally get one.

I draw a turtle in red to the right of the number. I am a big Maryland fan.

Similar thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. My boss knows I really like golf and I am an intern, but he let me go to our company's client golf event. The thing was I didn't have a 4 handicap in my group. I was suppose to be the ringer. But I have been playing crappy the last while. Plus, I have decided that I don't play scramble format well. Moral of the sorrry is go have a good time. Concentrate on you shots as if you were going to play every shot ( I didn't do this). Plus there is proably going to be a couple groups that shoot in the 50s. So, Remember a bad day of golf is better then a good day of work.

Ban them for the caddie's sake . I would hate to haul one around. They stick way out of the bag and look ugle everywhere. I like the idea of having to only having you hands on the putter.

I played Coral Canyon a few years ago. It was really nice. The course is a nice desert course. I don't usually play courses nearly that nice but clubhouse staff was very helpful. The experiance was very enjoyable for me. The course itself was nice as I said, but no real wow holes. I don't know much about the Ledges other then the commercials I see on TV, but I would say you won't go wrong with Coral Canyon if you go there.

I think anytime you can hit a real ball and feel contact is helpful. One of my best rounds ever came after I was hitting into a net a couple nights before. When I go to the range sometimes I pay attention to much to ball flight and swinging to hard. When hitting into the net it helps me to pay attention to balance and contact. I think it helps.

So, when you hit you top-flite down the middle do you go drop it in the lake because if it had been a pro-v you would have been nervous about losing it and sliced it into the lake.

This is just another thing about golf that I learned that i did wrong. Thanks for bringing the proper technique to my attention
