I'm looking to replace my 60 wedge and have found good deals on a TM xFT wedge and a Scratch (forged jlm model with tnc grind) wedge. Just looking for peoples views who have used either of these models.

I tried it out on the range a couple of months ago, its a great looking club but not the best choice if you want it mainly for fairway use. It was similar in distance and trajectory to my R9, maybe a little lower. I lost more distance on off centre hits than the R9. I never tried adjusting it, i prefer to keep everything neutral.

TWS, Did you buy the original machspeed or the new black model? Also, is the Fubuki shaft in the black the real one or 'for nike'? I was looking at it in the store and couldn't see anything on the shaft to make me think it wasn't the real thing.

Does anybody know which driver, fairway and hybrid Mcdowell is using now he's switched over to Srixon? His website only shows his irons, wedges and ball (srixon).
-
Didn't you get fit for these irons with the mizuno shaft optimiser? If you want a lightweight shaft then Nippon may be a good option for you, I've read they are very high quality and very popular in japan

Grips, Grips, Grips (Equipment, Not Your Hands)
walfice replied to ramrockgolfer35's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I recently regripped with some black widow tour silks in White. They are similar to tour velvets but look better. Also, look for the sharpro new decade style grips, they are very good and are available with or without the cord on the top half of the grip. -
How many balls do you use per round?
walfice replied to binga7's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
If I have hit quite a few wedge shots I would 'ideally' get a new ball out after 12 holes or so, but I play the same ball for the whole round for cost reasons. The scuffs you see from wedge shots do not affect the balls performance very much at all, I think it is the layer of paint peeling off (someone correct me if I am wrong) rather than the cover cutting up like you used to see after blading a balata in old days. -
I would demo both of them, a more expensive shaft isn't always a better fit. I got the best results from the diamana blue board 'for titleist' shaft when I had my driver fitting. I also went to demo a few 3 woods recently and the fitter said my current r9 3 wood with the stock motore shaft was a better fit than other combinations I tried.

Great price, great driver.

Thanks. I'm thinking of trying them because my brother has a spare set of irons with these shafts in them so I could pull them and install them in my set. I am more of a swinger than a hitter so maybe they will suit me? What is the cost of pulling the nippons and installing them in my current irons?

I was considering trying these shafts in my irons (currently using DG high launch s300). Does anyone have experience of these shafts? Do they spin a lot? Also, the tip is .355 (i think), and my current shafts are .370 (i think lol). Would it be as simple as using a shim for a club fitter to swap these shafts around? Any other thoughts on these shafts appreciated. 6i ss around 90 mph

If it is the black and yellow shaft it is the stock mitsubishi rayon 'for nike' shaft. IIRC the fubuki is a white shaft. The R9 3 wood is the best I have used. I actually bought the R9 driver on the strength of it, but the driver wasn't a good fit for me. The 3 wood is a great all rounder. It's one of the easier 3 woods to hit from the fairway and offers a good blend of forgiveness and workability. Maybe try a 17 degree 4 wood, it might even give you a bit of extra distance with the extra hight you will get.

I am having a putter fitting next week. It's my birthday later this month and I'm going to get a new putter so will get custom fitted this time. I currently use a red x mallet, which I like a lot but would like to try a blade style and don't want to spend big money on a newport if it doesn't suit my stroke. It will be interesting to see what numbers the sam putt lab comes up with. If it turns out my stroke is more suited to a mallet then I might get a squareback or maybe just stick with my red x and save my money!

I demo'ed the VR 3 wood today and was pretty impressed. It went lower than my r9 and seemed to have a much lower spin rate. I'm going back on thursday to hit it side by side with my r9 on the trackman so i can get some definitive figures. Forgiveness was pretty much the same as the r9 despite the face being a little shorter from heel to toe.

I'm looking at getting a new putter too. I liked the method but it seemed to have a very small sweet spot which I wasn't hitting much, maybe due to the demo model being 35" and my preferred length being 33". I also prefer a sight line over the methods dot. Would it be possible to order it from nike with a sight line? I would like to try it in 33", other considerations for me are the Ping redwood anser, rife aussie or aruba or most likely a scotty studio select newport 2. PS arsenal, how are you finding the vr 3 wood? I'm really tempted to get one now they have come down in price.

I am a pretty good ballstriker for my handicap, my main requirement for a 3 wood is to hit it straight off the tee, distance and workability are not so important for me. I swing my 3 wood around 100mph.

I posted recently about changing to a 909 or mizuno titanium fairway wood but am also considering the Nike vr now the price has come down. I haven't seen many posts about this club, anyone using one? How about forgiveness? Also, from what I have read it comes with the 'real' voodoo shaft, is this correct?
-
It's a 70g stiff motore shaft
-
I'm thinking of getting a new 3 wood and considering the 909 f2 or mizuno mp titanium. Which of these, along with my r9 is the most forgiving? The mizuno looks great but seems to have such a small face at address. Also, does the titanium face give any noticeable increase in distance? My main requirement for a 3 wood is to hit it straight off the tee, distance and workability are not as important. Or should I just stick with the r9, it is long and straight but I do not seem to be able to hit it out of the middle consistently.

I've decided to get a newport 2 scotty but can't make my mind up on a style or select. I really like the feel of my red x which has the same Insert as the studio style but I also like the select too. Decisions decisions. Most people on here seem to love the studio selects, I would like to know peoples thoughts on the studio style please.
-
I use the red x. If mallets are your thing then they don't get much better than the red x. The GSS insert gives a nice smooth feel and sound. It sits nice and square at address and the 3 lines work well to help with alignment. You can get them for a good price on ebay too. Give it a go, if you don't like it you could sell it on without loss.

Just an update on my 'stolen' penta. I played with it today and shot a 76 (par 71) so was very pleased with it, not so pleased with the 35 putts I took though. Maybe that was my punishment for playing with ill gotten gains! Just a note on the penta, what a great ball it is. The only thing I didn't like was how it just seemed to hang up in the air when playing into a headwind, much more than my usual Nike tour d, that robbed me of considerable distance. Other than that it really is exceptional in all other areas. THE END

nike victory red driver tour
walfice replied to jrsmith1491's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I hit the str8 fit VR earlier in the year and liked it a lot. The two reasons I didn't get it were the price (it hadn't been out long and was around £300 and I was only looking to spend up to £200) and I don't like the sound of it at impact. I do think it is one of the best looking drivers on sale right now. Also, does it come with the 'real' project x shaft or a 'made for version'? -
I thought the original comment about 'which ball did you replace the penta with' was posted in jest. It sounds like it was serious. Do the range guys give you a partial refund for when a percentage of your range balls do not fly properly due to cuts in the cover, excessive wear or the dimples wearing down? If it will please your golfing gods and ensure good golfing karma for all, I will sacrifice one of my balls next time I go to the range.

I didn't replace it, I just pocketed the penta.
