  1. i did the same thing. it's been about 4 weeks since i've started up again after 6 years of not touching a club. i would do fine at the range, but on the course i would shank and shank again. on the course, i was thinking too much. i was thinking "am i swinging right?, i need to get it there; don't miss hit this! " so now, i tell myself, thinking about your swing is for the range. i get all those questions answered at the range and make sure it gets grooved into my brain. then when i play on the course, i focus mainly on strategy and not so much on mechanics. just be patient and it will come. i think your range sessions need to be more focused and always done with a purpose or "goal" in mind. ie: pick a flag and hit a whole bucket there. it's good that your short game was ok, because those are the clubs we use the most in a round.
  2. and getting properly fitted should keep you from leaning forward too far, thus lessening the tendency to jump on your toes at impact, right?!
  3. i'm sure it has lot to do with it. 1" is not that much for me (and probably you too) considering that i am 6'4" and i like to stand tall in my stance. it just feels more comfortable than bending over too far. also, i'm about an inch taller with my golf shoes. and as you go longer, you have to start adjusting the lies to a little more upright probably. i'd say get fitted asap, because it's the right thing to do and then work from there to improve your swing. getting fitted will give you a base to start improving from. i'm getting fitted asap too.
  4. did you get your clubs fitted to your height? i'm 6'4" and i bought a set of irons that were lengthened about 1" and they are still too short. i need to get fitted soon. the main thing i focus on at address is trying to stand tall.
  5. +1. if it's working, stick with it. that could be your "signature"!
  6. I'm an architect. Well, i can't call myself that legally yet. I have to pass all my exams first before i'm a licensed architect, but i do all the same work because i work at a firm and use the firm's stamp for my drawings.
  7. was that just for observation and fitting specs? or did that include all the work and materials?
  8. i've always learned that the ball should be teed up so that when you place the driver at address, only half the ball is sticking up above the driver. and yes, the ball should be more forward in your stance to prevent you hitting under the ball. if your 3 wood goes farther than your driver, that should be your new driver on the course until you fix the other things. i've played a few rounds without a driver in my bag during those "tough" times.
