  1. I respect whoever is the POTUS wether I agree with them or not, I get not having a spot available because shutting down the course would easily backfire on management. I don't see it as a message about not liking the politics but more about not wanting to inconvience the membership. I have no problem with POTUS taking days off, playing golf, hanging out at the ranch. These guys are ALWAYS connected and probably never get more then a few minutes where they are not dealing with issues, yeah they signed up for it but we all need time to refresh the batteries. I wonder how many sleepless nights dealing with major issues have taken place that we will never know about.
  2. I'd agree...I suspect it isn't just the "head" of the driver...feel is an important factor and so is the "mental" side... It is very possible he has the exact shaft and head and weight but it just doesn't feel the same...Add to that if he hits a couple bad shots with the one's he is testing he may be convinced he can't hit a good one. Allthough I'm only a 2 handicap I know the identical clubs off the shelf will seem to perform differently.
  3. Didn't read all the thoughts... I'd consider it and check with my Visa or American Express to see if the course went out of business could I get a refund or dispute the charge due to lack of service provided..this is why these cards charge large fees...to protect it's users.
  4. For me a week away doesn't "wash-away" the multitude of swing thoughts and such that are wrecking my swing when I'm in a funk. It takes about 3-4 weeks off. This is where taking some good notes on what is and isn't working comes into play, I don't do a good enough job of this. I was off the last 6-7 weeks due to some minor shoulder surgery. I was able to hit half shots about 2 weeks ago, now I've played a couple rounds but was just not hitting the ball well at all. I discovered on the range last night my grip pressure and arm tension was just over the top..mostly due to trying to "work-on" a few moves and just wasn't aware how hard I was trying. After going back to a very basic element of holding the club as lose as I could, then swing instantly started coming around. I've found tension from working really hard on my game builds up and I need to just relax. Find out a "go-to" drill that helps you get the swing back. Mine for years has been relaxing grip pressure and hitting low punch shots..this helps tighten up the swing and re-focus my attention on impact. A couple other things you can do is try a new instructor...play a new course...move up two sets of tee's and hit less club off those boxes to get some confidence back. To answer your question though..I think it takes at least 2-3 weeks off to clear the mind...then it can take a week or two to hone back in.
  5. Not here in Dallas...it's 101!
  6. I think the Wadkins brothers have...could be wrong.
  7. Very familiar with AVID...I'm curious how many readers are turned off with the Cart Girl of the Monty/Year part. Seems to really make the publication less family friendly, more towards the 18-35 crowd... although they do seem to have a pretty solid advertising base. I'm definitely feeling the need for local/regional take. With local writers, photography, stories, teachers, etc...
  8. If you were to pickup a regional Golf magazine to read what would keep you interested in reading it? Here are a few of my thoughts... I'd want it to cover on a regular basic a few things.... Instruction - Have a solid instruction editor with a strong pedigree to help the average player, with high quality photos Course/Travel Review - A monthly review of a course/getaway, could be a buddy trip or a weekend trip that couples including golfers and non-golfers would enjoy. Lifestyle not "just" golf. Rules - One page that had something to do with the rules of golf Newcomer - a section dedicated to introducing the game to new players including etiquette, equipment, what to wear, instruction, best place to play Dining - Where is a great place to go for a great meal after a round or just a date night Profile - Regional/State based story on someone who is connected to the game. Can vary from issue to issue on a PGA Tour Player, PGA Caddie, Old Timer who has seen it all, soccer mom who squeezes in 9 holes with friends weekly, a group of 4 kids who love to play together, etc.. Equipment reviews Not really interest in all the obscure coverage of regional tournaments....
  9. And "what if" the traffic issue came along after the course was already built? Why would the course be liable? It is simple, to avoid negligence you must take "reasonable care" to avoid liability with respect to golf balls causing damage. If the course does such then I don't believe they are liable either. I worked as an assistant at a course and we had a sign on #1 and #10 that stated golfers were liable....this was simply to appease the homeowners, we knew the homeowners were the responsible party. The problem is 50%-60% of the people buying a house on a golf course are not golfers, the non-golfers tend to buy houses in the line of fire and then deal with it time and time again. I consider myself a very moral person, if I cause a door ding I will leave a note. With that said I feel no sense of responsibiilty if property is damaged due to an errant tee-ball. I will feel bad about it but the homeowner knew there was a golf course there, my ball was surely not the first to hit the house, it is their risk... And yes..I live on a golf course on #9 350 yds off the tee on the right side of the fairway....we hear balls hit every now and then. I've never once blamed the golfer.
  10. Quote: Originally Posted by bjwestner . You committed a tort as but not for your negligence (hitting the ball into someone's window and breaking it) this would not have happened. You believe an errant tee-shot is negligence? I'd like to see that proven in a court of law? By definition: "failure to use reasonable care, resulting in damage or injury to another" It would be very very easy to clearly state the golfer was NOT aiming at the window, had no intention of hitting the ball in that direction, and had probably practiced or taken a lesson at some point to eliminate errant shots or improve his swing. All of these things would clearly show the golfer used "reasonable care" to prevent damage or injury. I'd challenge you to show one case where a jury found a golfer liable for an "errant" shot. Taken from "HomeAdvisor.com" Quote: Legal experts say being in the line of fire comes with the territory when you buy into a condo or homeowners community that borders a golf course. "The golf courses were not built overnight," said Donna Berger, of Katzman, Garfinkel and Berger, one of the largest community association law firms in the state. "I live on a golf course, too, and have had to deal with damages. But as the law sees it, owners assume the risk when they move in. " She said it is similar when home buyers purchase a home near an airport. It is difficult for them to file a lawsuit based on airplane noise. I would never feel liable for damage to a home with an errant shot, I've worked for years on my golf game to improve my skills. I've never aimed at a home or intentionally tried to hit something other then the golf course. I would feel bad that my shot caused the damage, if the homeowner was irate I'd provide my name and info and let them work it out with my homeowners insurance....I am confident they'd never win. In your example what if a person had been in the back yard and hit in the head and killed. Would a manslaughter charge be warranted? There is zero chance a jury would find the golfer liable who hit an "errant" shot. Additional Info: From: Jim Scavo is nationally recognized for his representation of clients involved in the resort, recreational property, real estate and club and travel industry Quote: golfers engaging in the ordinary playing of golf, including miss hit errant golf balls, will generally not have liability for damages resulting from the errant ball. Country clubs and operators of golf courses, including the owners associations, may generally enjoy the same status except in those cases that deal with the liability of the golf course operator for a nuisance or negligent design.
  11. Being a 1.7 I bet I'd be a +1 or +2 if I could hit the driver like the guys ranked in the top 10. I suspect the par 5's would be reachable with my hybrid, long iron and mid iron. The real long par 4's would mean a 3-4 club difference... I personally think it would be huge...for my game anyway. I'm not a real long hitter...
  12. Here is the interview they did with her...I just followed her on twitter...curious to see where this goes.... Maybe she could replace Holly on Morning Drive! http://nolayingup.com/2014/08/04/no-laying-ups-exclusive-interview-with-ashley-bongiovanni/
  13. I have to agree...Gary Williams is likable and very knowledgeable... Holly had that "spice", the ability to mix things up and give it back more then she took it. She could stand there in her crazy high heels, short skirt, and breast that were 2 sizes two big (is that really possible) for her frame and yet come off with great conviction and intelligence...Not many ladies have that package and last more then a week or two. Yeah Page....zero eye candy, I think I'd look better in heels...everything is completely forced with her...
  14. People fight and kill over much less then this...it is just the catalyst for two people who neither refuse to be wrong.... Yeah...drinking, money...and more important to them...pride...was probably on the line.
  15. I was speaking to local golf as this is more of an indication of the downturn in the game of golf...not sponsorships on the PGA tour or revenue. The health of the PGA tour doesn't reflect on the local country clubs or municipal courses.
  16. Yea, I saw the same thing...I buy a few things online but only from top legitimate sellers. I'm a professional photographer and 90% of what I buy is from a local camera store that caters to the professional. The extra 10-15% I pay is worth more then that in the expert service I get in return. On some level I understand if it is a one off or rare purchase...like a car....I'm not married to one dealership so I have no problem playing them against each other.
  17. You should watch the last issue of Jimmy Roberts "In Play" about all the counterfeit clubs on the market. It will make you never buy from eBay or a random dealer.
  18. Cool! Congrats!
  19. My experience at Dicks was golf seemed like an after thought. the 8x8 small putting green had a rope with a lock on it and you had to ask or get help to try out a putter. The "golf" area seemed crammed into a corner and the selection seems...well somewhat like a Target or Wal-Mart, not like a store that was committed to the golf business. With that said we have a PGA Superstore 2 minutes from Dicks, and a Golfsmith 10 minutes away. Yes, there is a bit of over-population but if you are not "all-in" then you probably should get out...seems like that is what Dick's did. To blame it on the factors Dicks did..well those are excuses for their own shortcomings.
  20. I didn't read every comment..but I think suspect a large portion of the lack of revenue into the golf business is directly related to corporations big and small having to answer to how they spend their dollars. I would be willing to bet tournament revenues from corporate outings are way down at most golf courses, also there has always been a lot of business done on the golf course with salesman or company representatives treating clients and potential clients to golf rounds and outings. Just like so many of the major sports season ticket holders are corporations I suspect a tremendous amount of dollars and scrutiny over expense budgets have scaled back some of the dollars used to play the game.
  21. Take a look at Hogan... He won 6 majors after the age of 38.... At the age of 40 he won 5 out 6 tournaments he entered, three of those majors. Let's not forget... He was in a terrible car crash in 1949 where he had a double-fracture of his pelvis, featured ankle, collarbone, chipped ribs and blood clots. My point is...to doubt that Tiger can't come back from his injuries...well I wouldn't want to bet my life on it!
  22. Making the cut and having the highest score on the weekend is a long way from finishing 4th to last. Just ask David Duvall. If we define current greatness by the most recent winner of the Masters...well Tiger beat him this weekend...
  23. Clearly there are those that are Tiger "haters" and love that band wagon. I thought it'd be interesting to compare some facts of Jacks and see where his "era" was. Jack won 10 majors in 10 years - 1962 to 1972 --- Tiger won 13 majors in 10 years Jack then won 4 majors in 5 more years ---Tiger won 1 major in year 11, his last major and Tiger hasn't won since 2008, 6 years Jack won his last three majors in 8 more years - The longest span for Jack was 6 years between his 1980 PGA and his 1986 Masters I suspect had the internet been around many would have said the Jack era was over after he won his 14th major in 1975 when he went 3 years before winning another. Then it took two years to win 2 and six years to win his last. My point is all the great ones go through a period where they are "the man", then things slow down and they are only able to capture that greatness every now and then. Tiger is at 14 and if it takes 11 more years to get to 18 like it did Jack it won't take anything away from Tigers career like it has not diminished Jack's. Jacks major winning span was over 24 years... So I guess it would be fair to see where Tiger stands in 2021....So That is 6 and 3/4 years to win 4...my money is still on Tiger... How random is all of that?
  24. What has crippled his body is the crazy workout sessions and training with the navy seals. Hank did great things for Tiger and if Hank had not quit Tiger I think he'd not be as far off as he is now. Is the "era" over, depends on how you define era. I still believe Tiger will get to 18, it will be hard as the young players are putting it together and figuring the game out. Tiger has to simply figure out how to hit his driver, if he gets the driver going his confidence will soar and the rest of his game will take a jump up.
