  2. Just wanted to stop back and say I've been working on a steadier head and rotating my shoulders properly like this video goes over and I've combined those two swing thoughts with getting good hip movement (I try to feel as if my hips are moving towards the target before I complete my backswing). It has taken nearly two months but my ball striking has never been as consistent as it is right now. I've played golf for going on 24 years and have never shot under par for 18 holes; until now. Not only have I done it for the first time, but I have done it TWICE in the last 4 weeks. So with that, thank you, Mike!
  3. +5 77. 5 lost balls, casual rule drop outs of elephant grass. Got a scramble tomorrow so I was swinging a little harder than normal.
  4. Ground is HARD right now! Anyone noticing above normal distances? I'm seeing about 30+ yards of extra roll.
  5. Every club in my bag, except my driver, is from 2003. I definitely understand your attachment. The longer I keep them the more I understand the phrase "it's the Indian, not the arrow." Goodluck with your new wedge
  6. 4 under 68. 2 eagles, 6 birdies, 2 bogeys and 2 doubles (1 lost tee shot). Played the 4 par 5's 6 under. Great day off the tee and on the greens.
  7. http://www.pga.com/pgachampionship/news/louis-oosthuizen-wins-pga-long-drive-competition-against-rory-mcilroy-field 340 won, Jack still holds the record. I'm trying to find carry/roll stats.
  8. My good drives with my 913D3 aren't noticeably longer or better then my good drives were with my 983E that I played for 10 years before. Overall I am more consistent with the 913 because the shaft fits me better and the 913 is more forgiving than the 983.
  9. If I ever switch to a swivel grip I'll have to check this putter out.
  10. I don't know the distances as they didn't consistently announce them. The format was 3 guys hit at a time, longest guy moves on and the two losers went to loser bracket or home. I won my first rd but they didn't say my distance, just that I was moving on to winner's bracket. Conditions were terrible for this time of year. Mid 60's, sloppy wet and raining, and a 25-30mph sustained head wind. A guy that qualified at a local with a 381 hit one 297 that day and it was smoked. There were guys capable of 400+ yd drives there, but 305 is what won the shootout for the money.
  11. Apples to oranges comparisons. A pro's game is centered around accuracy, LDA is all about distance. Why would any LDA guys care how many fairways they would hit? I guess if they wanted they could just hit a 250yd 5iron down the middle.. I got knocked out in rd 4 of my regional qualifier this past weekend. I think I hit the grid 4/6 balls in my last set, but none of them were as long as the the one straight one the guy who advanced hit. Should I feel good that I hit the ball straighter in a losing effort at a long drive contest???
  12. I see some confusion with club length and what is and is not legal. USGA measures club length when the club is at address, roughly a 60* angle. USGA max length at this lie is 48". LDA measures club length with the shaft vertical, i.e. the head on the ground and the shaft straight up. Using this method the LDA max club length is 50". I'm pretty sure a 50" LDA driver would be equal to a 48.5" USGA measured driver. When I had my long drive clubs put together I had them cut to USGA 48" just to cover both methods. One shaft I will probably cut down so that its total USGA length is 46" just to have more control and better contact. I think today's top long drivers are being seriously underestimated. They are in the weight room and at the range everyday with only one goal in mind; get faster. They are incredible ball strikers. Even at 150mph club speed a ball won't go that far if mishit badly. 400yds is the new 300. Lastly, tour pros are great ball strikers because they swing so conservatively with standard length clubs. I seriously doubt their ball striking would remain unchanged with a 3" longer club and swinging as fast as they can. If it didn't, why don't they swing faster all the time?
  13. There really isn't much in common between long drive and real golf other than a ball and a club. I bet the longest driver on tour wouldn't finish inside the top 10 in the Remax World finals. Also, have you guys noticed how much roll the pro's have been getting? That bomb Rory hit the other week appeared to be downhill, downwind, and rolled 100yds. Give a pro a 5* driver and tell him to swing out of his shoes and I bet he has trouble hitting the grid. Pro long drive guys are in the 150mph clubhead speed range with one guy being recorded at 161mph. JB Holmes has the fastest avg swing speed on tour at 125 mph. Two questions now: How much of a threat is JB Holmes considered on tour? and does anyone think these tour pros are capable of 35mph more club head speed than their 115 mph avg?
  14. Looks like a bottle opener.
  15. Edel seems to have quite the following around here. I have never heard of them until joining here a few months back. I've checked out there website and it looks like they build some finely tuned clubs. I wish they had a fitting center closer to me.
  16. The only club in my bag that I am not wanting to try something new is my Scotty. I've been playing it for 11 years and still seem to fall in love with it every round.
  17. Adapter is just the term used for the adjustable hosel that comes on almost all the drivers now. My shaft is turning inside of that ^^^
  18. As far as I have found on the net it is a straight .335 and yes, I would put my swing speed in the 130's, which we know is on the slow side for the long drive sport. I'm not sure about the size of other long drive drivers as this is the first one I've ever owned. I think Joe Miller and Jamie Sadlowski use this X2 Hot long drive version so they must be getting something done right.
  19. Welp, got the two shafts fixed... I thought. One came back cross threaded so it couldn't be used and the other came back miss aligned with its puring. Took the cross threaded one to a different Golfsmith with an extra adapter I had. Got it all fixed up and waited a week to try it. 10 balls hit with it and it twisted again. Not sure what to do at this point. There is a Golf Etc near that I might try but I'm starting to wonder if it is a smithing error or a design flaw. I wish I had just bought a Krank driver instead of this X2 Hot.
  20. I don't know what monitor Golfsmith uses in their stores but it doesn't seem right to me. My real world good shots with my long driver are in the 340yd carry range measured with gps. The monitor at Golfsmith was showing similar yardages but it said my swing speed was 116. I would think my multiple real world good drives should put my actual swing speed in the 130's. So, my concerns are if they lean heavily on swing speed when fitting, would I be getting a correct fitment?
  21. I really like my 913 D3 so I doubt I end up with one of these. Hopefully the 913 fairway woods price will drop soon.
  22. I agree, thanks for the help. I was paying my girlfriend in sunflower seeds, so I guess I can't expect too much. I'll try to get a better angle and video for a swing thread. That is what I was trying to say I'm working on now with my shoulders. After seeing some pics of my backswing, my shoulders rotate flat and I'm stuck behind the ball, leaving the flipping action the only way to hit it. My golf swing makes it too obvious I played baseball. Thanks for the video. I've always struggled with a lot of head movement and I think once I can start rotating my shoulders properly my head movement should be reduced greatly. Thanks for the help, all! I knew things had gotten way out of sync when I stopped getting any roll out of my 4.5* driver.
  23. Thoughts on my amount of slide? Right now I'm working on keeping my spine angle at address through my backswing. My shoulders tend to get flat to the ground at the top and then I end up with what I think is too much of a reverse "C" at impact. My ball flight is a little too high and I'm looking to bring it down some.
  24. I don't know what my swing speed is with my long drive club but I'm sure it's on the low end for the sport. To be competitive at the highest level you need to be in the upper 140's. I have qualified for regionals with a drop and stop 328yd hit into the wind. The paint on the shaft has been removed but I'm not sure if anything has been sanded inside of the adapter. I'll try to find out when I get them back.
