  1. Nice on the 92! I am going to have start thinking about getting a net so I can practice more at home. I have about enough room to hit a sand wedge and that is about it.
  2. Played league last night and shot a 54 from the blues, one under my handicap. Happy with that I guess, still want those 40's scores for 9 holes. I had 3 blow up holes, 2 of them water balls and on the other I chunked an approach shot, left my pitch short and 3 putted. On the water ball holes, the 1st one I pushed a tee shot into a hazard; the second I pulled a 4I into a pond. I didn't think I pushing my luck with either shot but I guess I could have teed off with an iron and on the second one left the 4I in the bag.

  4. Great job Gerald! Congrats on the 98.
  5. @isukgolf I have been taking some lessons this summer and I do have some things I can practice. The thing I really need to work on is getting my swing more inside out then outside in. At my last lesson the things I was told to work on were keeping my lower body stable, keeping my arms in and swinging out. And no, I have not posted to the "My Swing" thread yet. I think I will wait until after my last lesson this year.
  6. Yesterday I learned the importance of practice... Before yesterday I had not played or practiced since last Wednesday. When I got to the course I found out I had just over an hour to play the front 9 because of Tuesday night women's league. So I rented a cart and did my version of speed golf. It was ugly. I finished the front in 55 minutes but with a 57. The back 9 was more leisurely and I shot a 54. I really struggled with my swing until about the last 3 holes. I two big problems I figured out but too late. My grip was bad, hands were too far right. And my swing plane was bad, outside in. In any case before I hit the course again I am going to make sure and hit the range and hopefully be more prepared. The quest continues....
  7. Though this is off topic from the thread I would have to disagree with your statement, at least as far as I am concerned. I am shooting for a score it's just 20 strokes higher than the score you are shooting for.
  8. Played league last night and shot a 50. I had one 8 and 3 6s on the night. The rest of the holes were bogeys and 1 par. On the 8 it was my classic 1st hole jitters, I topped my tee shot with my 5 wood, laid up in front of the ditch, then proceeded to top a 6i into the ditch, then my next shot went long and into the pond by the green. Probably lucky I scored an 8! This seems to be a problem for me when playing a competitive round, I have trouble getting started on that first hole. One of my issues on the night was I seemed to be hitting my clubs about 10 yds further than usual for the year. That put me in some tough spots as far as long putts/chips on multiple holes. I think I did pretty well on my decision making, the only one I want back is that I pulled out a fairway wood on one of the par 3s and pulled my approach into a sand trap. I wish I would have laid up with an iron and pitched onto the green. Live and learn I guess.
  9. I have only been on here a few days and I am a terrible golfer so I am probably not qualified to give you any advice other than I have been there(and if you look at my index you can see I am still there). That is an empty feeling to stand over your ball and have no clue how you are going to make good contact. But the one thing that stuck out to me was your comment that you and your instructor were getting frustrated. About three years ago I went through one of these phases and I booked a lesson with the pro at my home course, someone that had helped me out before. Anyhow we get out on the range and after about 5 minutes he tells me he doesn't know what I am doing wrong, refunds my money and sends me on my way. Well that was the lowest point in my golfing career. I played about 4 rounds over a two year period; if a pro can't help me who is going to help me? The only thing that got me back on track was a friend of mine invited me to play on his league team last year and that forced me to go find help. I went to another pro in town and he helped me almost immediately. I guess the point I am trying to make is not all pros are created equal; there is someone out there that can help you...unless you are Charles Barkley. :) And sounds like there are great resources here as well. I wish I would have found this site a long time ago, maybe I wouldn't have lost two seasons of golf. :)
  10. Baby backs on the Traeger, fireworks, golf, maybe some fishing, and best of all painting the railings on the deck! :) Happy 4th everyone!
  11. Awesome! Getting that first birdie is great isn't it? I still remember mine though it has been over 10 years ago.
  12. Thanks Spyder.
  13. Thank you for all the welcomes. I am always looking to improve but a lot of times it seems like 1 step forward 2 steps back process. On another note, where do you create your signature? I was looking in the profile settings and was unable to find it. I am sure it staring me right in the face. :) Thanks!
  14. Thanks Gipper. Now I just need to string 2 good 9s together. :)
  15. I used Golf Logix for the first time today on my iPhone 5. I thought it was very easy to enter scores but the GPS seemed to be off. The yardages seemed to be 5-7 yards shorter than what they actually were. One of my playing partners had Golf Logix on his Samsung Galaxy and the yardages were pretty much spot on. I think I will continue to use Golf Logix to track score, putts, etc., but I think I will take the yardage info with a grain of salt. -Bill
  16. Ughhh didn't quite make it today. I blew up on the front 9 with a 58 and then shot a 45 on the back 9, which is really good for me. Though I didn't break a 100 I did shoot a 103 which is 4 under my handicap for this course. Next time! :)
  17. I just joined TST today and came across this thread and knew it was for me. :) I have only broke 100 once and that was about 6 years ago. My 18 hole scores so far this year: 117, 103 and a 101. My biggest problem is my ball striking and I am currently taking a lesson here and there to work on that. My next biggest problem is probably course management and I am working on that as well. Tomorrow I am playing the course where I shot that sub 100 score. Hopefully I can pull it off again. ;)
  18. Just joint TST today. I have been golfing(badly) off and on for almost 30 years. Found this site looking for general golf info. ~Bill
