  1. Hi All, I've been working on improving my game, and in turn have started thinking about getting a better set of clubs. For context, being serious about golf is really new to me so I may ask a dumb question or make a dumb statement. I found a set of Ping i10 irons on Craigslist for $175. The club heads appear to be in good shape. As far as I know, Pings are pretty valuable clubs. However, I use a 1" longer shaft, and they badly need new grips. I'm not sure on the price of getting new shafts and grips. I'm wondering if it's a good value to pick up that set of irons and get new shafts and grips. What is the rough cost? Would it be worth it? Should I just buy a new set of clubs? I appreciate any suggestions.
  2. Hello Everybody, I have really been improving my iron ball striking and getting some straight shots, which is great. However, my driver has fallen ill. Every swing lately has been a low hook that goes left and stays left and usually ends up unplayable. The last time that I was hitting the driver straight, I found that moving the ball unnaturally far back in my stance (about the middle of the stance or maybe even a touch back) gave me a straight-ish shot. However, the ball was still very low. Logically, I think I should start looking at my club head at address to see if it is closed. And I will. But I wanted to see if the crowd had any suggestions. I also don't think the club head would address the flight of the ball too much. I may be wrong there. At any rate, I've never felt comfortable swinging my driver, almost like I have little control over it versus swinging irons. So I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. Thanks!
  3. Speaking of eye-dominance - how much does eye dominance have to do with a golf swing? I've seen that in other sports like shooting sports, etc., that eye dominance is important. Based on the test I did with the doorknob and my hands, I am right eye dominant but left handed. What effect does something like that have?
  4. Here's where the biggest point of confusion is. I have been playing right-handed, and hitting the ball okay every now and then. However, when I swing a club left handed I admit it feels more natural, and I think maybe that's what you mean about having a dominant side. That feels particularly true of my lower body. A right handed swing for me feels a bit stiff and perhaps uncoordinated. A left hand swing feels correct in my legs.
  5. I'm left-handed, and I don't know how to play golf. (Pausing for laughter). I'm confused about handedness in most aspects of life. Here is the breakdown: I write and throw left handed; I bowl, hammer and eat right handed. But, God help me, I can't figure out how to golf. I tried golfing left handed at first, and the results were terrible. I could barely make contact with the ball. I blamed my baseball swing with its cocked elbow and "flat" swing plane. I can say in my early attempts I don't think I actually got any balls airborne. I was at a party one night where a couple of kids were hitting golf balls into a pond. They only had right-handed clubs available, so I thought, "What the hell," and took a right-handed swing. The ball jumped off the club and headed off toward the pond. After that, I only golfed right handed. However, as I've gotten a little older and started trying to play more, I've noticed that even right-handed I am iffy at best. Some of my shots get good air. A couple of them go straight. But I can hardly say I'm consistent. To add more confusion, I've heard from a couple of left-handers that I should be hitting left handed. And as a child, when I had been trying to shoot basketball right handed, a coach asked me to try shooting left handed and I ended up playing in college. So, needless to say, I'm confused. What do you think? Should I try going lefty or should I stick to right-handedness?
