Effortless Inside Swing with Closed Stance
Tref replied to Joe Mama's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I play regularly with a guy who uses a closed stance for his pitching and chipping and he is deadly with both...I myself have tried it for those 30-50yd low runners and it works well.....if you are striking the ball well and judging distance and direction what ever your doing is right!...Golf is always easier when you find something that works! -
Thanks guys will try this today! For anyone in the UK rubbing alcohol is Surgical spirit.:-D

Anyone got a good idea for cleaning golf grips...my grips are good but always have dirt and grease from playing....have used washing up liquid in the past!

I agree.... open minds are the only type that learn....what I didn't say was I shot 78....42-36 and won the comp.....as one can see I used the flare on the back nine.....try it folks you will get a more through the ball feeling!

I have been suffering with bad wedge play for ages and hitting shanks and fat shots......today I tried just flaring my right foot and my wedge shots have been great right on the button....so I tried it on the drives (which I have no problem with normally and hit quiet long) and the length of my drives increased over 20+ yards to pushing the 300 mark ( this in winter with very wet fairways). I came on here to see if there was an article about this right foot flare....to say I'm happy with the explanation I have found and the way it had helped me today...just words doesn't do justice. :-D

Working on my takeaway to get my swing more reliable and repeatable, this has fixed my problem with shanks and my last three rounds in the previous two weeks have been in the top end of the 70's......looking to get my handicap down this year.

I would like to share a thought with everyone! I have been suffering with the shanks for the last ten years off and on, but the last four years they have been really bad and have ruined many excellent rounds. This only happens to me for the 60/70 yard half shot with the wedges and not with any other club. I have had loads of instruction and have read many threads on TST as a guest before becoming a member, I have tried everything. The big problem is when I come down into the ball I move forward, so apart from standing fully on my heels nothing works and sometimes even that does not work. Today I had an idea when cleaning my golf shoes..why do they point upwards at the toe! As I bend my right knee outwards when taking my backswing this makes my toes go forward for grip, but also my upturned golf shoe re-grips on the toes of the shoe and effects my balance by tipping me forward.....then the shank on the though swing! To test this today I went to the range with a friends pair of those summer trainer type golf shoe which are flat on the sole and tried to simulated falling forward.....couldn't do it...because they were flat... I had more balance on my feet and just couldn't find a shank. So why do the manufacturers make shoes like this...do they want us to play bad, because I think this could be a reason perhaps people have problems with other types of shots. We have not got all our feet on the floor/grass so we must be out of balance at set-up, a turned up toe shoe would be great if we are running as it would give us a forward motion easily....have a look at your own shoe. I would like to know your thoughts Tref

My most memorable moment on a golf course was at the 1980 Epsom Grand Prix European Tour Pro am at St Pierre Golf course Chepstow UK . I was playing in the Pro am as I had won the competition at the club and they had a free team entry. Our pro that day was Sam Torrance ( to be European Ryder Cup Captain in 2002) who made it a memorable day and taught me so much about reading a green ( they see so many things we don't ). Anyway back to my highlight which came on the 8th hole which is a Par 4 guarded by a large Chestnut tree on one side and a deep bunker the other side. If you can picturefrom the tee which was 3 or 4 deep and all down the roped edges spectators were stretching to the green which had large stands in a horseshoe around the green with at least 1500 spectators sitting there.....it was a real caldron as one stood on the tee....Sam went first with a 3 iron and left it perfectly for a wedge to the green.....now came my shot being a member of the club I had made this shot many times, but less the people and the stress, it didn't help to have one of my fellow team member say just over there on the right where all those people are is where my slice goes.....Now it was all quiet on the tee as I put my ball down, in my hand the driver...in my head the thought...don't think just hit it....a beautiful swing...the ball as it flew straight down the fairway just bouncing under the tree and rolling onto the green....all around me cheers all down the fairway cheers...the players on the green ( one was Seve Balesteros) looking back as the ball rolled up to them...I turned to Sam and said "I don't think he liked that" " well he should play faster" Sam said to the laughter of the crowd. When I got to the green after being clapped all the way there, everyone stood up and clapped me on the green.. I missed the eagle but tapped in for the birdie. But another trill came later...Sam went after the round to practice and said he'd meet us in the bar in 30 minutes..he was good to his word and came back with Seve would shook my hand and said what a great shot. To do that and then have my hero tell me what a great shot.....I think you'll know how I felt and still feel!......

I think the electric push cart (Trolley in UK) would be great for the USA.....easy to use....easy to get into the car ( folds up very small) and takes the strain out of pushing...I wonder why you have not got these over there...perhaps it's so the courses can charge you for the golf cart!....well here is an opportunity for someone to start selling them.....you could earn a fortune!
-
Mostly everyone at my club uses a push or pull cart and a high percentage have the battery types....I use the electric type and it sure does help one stay fresh even going up very steep fairways.

Beautiful weather....sunshine,no wind,a pleasure to be out playing....shot 81 but should have been better...found some bad lies off drives, so felt I was scrambling.

Okay this is my 1st post on the TST...... I can understand the anguish of seeing your ball drifting left on the hook curve......This difted into my game two years ago and have just solved it this year......Yes I did have a flat swing but not one that was to exaggerate....so what's the fix.........Posture! I got more slumped over with the driver and so my hands had no where to go and the clubhead just pasted the hands causing the hook.....if any of you suffer this type of shot go to your pro and get a posture lesson.....it will also help your other shots and putting.
