  1. Hi Guys, I have done alot of work on my swing over the past few months and have gone from a pull draw to the occasional block slice, this happens most often with my Driver off the tee and my 3 wood from the fairway. What are the main causes of a block slice ? (this is the shot that starts right, slices right, and goes a very short distance)
  2. He said he bombed his drive which to me means he did'nt expect to hit into the group in front but on reflection felt he should have waited. I have had this happen to me from both perspectives, I was once 270 yards out no hope in hell of hitting the green and must have hit something and the ball trickled up through the green, the guys were quiet gracious. I have been on the fairway when a ball landed nearby from nowhere. I don't worry about it the first time but if the group behind it does it a second time I would certainly say something.
  3. can you please clear up for me how torque = leverage ? I thought these are totally independant of each other and the only way to supply more power is by either more torque or more leverage ? I did'nt go to school long enough for the modern golf swing.
  4. why would you want run if you have enough length ? I use a 9.5 hit it fairly high with a fade so that I don't get alot of run. Alot more control when the ball does'nt go rolling around the golf course.
  5. I know for myself, when I go for it I can still hit it solid but just offline, or sometimes too far into the rough, it would certainly be interesting to look at the pro stats for length of drives that are offline. what I should have said more clearly as an average a 2-iron off the tee will bring down the overall dramatically ie. 4 X 300 yards + 1 X 200 yard average is 280 yards. One of my major faults is I hate target golf and tend to hit driver on every hole (also trying to knock the socks off it)
  6. By measuring only drives in the fairway I think that would reduce the average distance as you are more likely to be errant when you pull out the stops and go for it. oh and their stats include their 2-Iron, 3-wood etc tee shots.
  7. I do hit it 300 yards quiet regularly, just not often on the fairway, pro driving stats are only for those that find the fairway
  8. the form of energy is changed not used, eg. electric energy used through a resistive load is changed into heat.
  9. it would only start left if his swing path was over the top, it is physically impossible for it to start left if his path is straight and clubface is open.
  10. alignment causes a slice if your feet are open and your sholders are closed simple as that, he never used to have a fitness program and hit it straight, so why would that fix it now ?? following your theory of things always stay the same. and a fade IS caused by an open club face with a straight swing path. initial launch is dictated by swing path, tail end is caused by clubface position.
  11. Alignment, now that could be a cause, does'nt matter what level you are conditioned to if you don't align straight. just one example of many
  12. Non-competition rounds I use Ram Tours that I bought for $1 NZD (.60 cents US) and are a great cheap option. Competition rounds I use the NXT-tour a nice balance between control and distance. Only problem with playing titliest is everyone else does and I'm always afraid when I miss my fairway someone else will hit my ball even with the markings.
  13. During the season muscles are used on both sides of the body and the swing promotes an increase in flexibility. Yes an over the top move is a symptom, but a symptom of many things not just in-flexibiltiy.
  14. unlikley to be over the top if it starts straight, over the top will start left, like mentioned previous, start with the fundamentals first. One other thing to try is swing a little easier, could just be a little bit of lost timing.
  15. I approach my short Irons differently, I am usually deadly from 150 yards in, my sole focus during my swing is my hand location, where ever my hands are in my swing is where the ball is going to go. I practise once a week for a couple of hours just focusing on feeling where my hands are.
  16. We are lucky in New Zealand, course membership costs me $720 per year, $480 for those under 27, $230 for those under 23. Golf gear I have'nt changed for a long time but am currently scouting out models 2-4 years old. Great value and not that old.
  17. LOL, I also had 3 birdies on the back nine, as well as one tripple and two double bogeys. 3 birdies - down wind, the disasters = upwind/crosswind.
  18. we had strong winds yesterday too, I hit Driver 6 Iron into a 500 meter (550 yard) par 5 and felt like a god. Next hole 308 meter (340 yards) par 4 and was short after driver 3 wood felt like a mortal again.
  19. There is something to be said for consistancy
  20. He talks about an "on" plane swing not a one plane swing. I found personally the feeling of trying to swing the hands under my chin helped me to cure my over the top move.
