510TP replacement: R9 Superdeep March 30
erwintrace08 replied to erwintrace08's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
LOL...well this is an exclusive TP version and a low launch/low spin club. The Supertri is High Spin/Launch...too high for me. Feels like a degree or two higher than normal. I know a lot of 510TP guys say that was the best club TM every made and the Superdeep is supposed to be the replacement -
How Do You Hit 170 Yards With 7 Iron?
erwintrace08 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
In the WCG Match Play, Sergio hit his 6 iron 234 yards!!! crazy.. I'm sure his swing speed, lag on how he drops the club and how he's such a good ball striker has NOTHING to do with it...hehe -
Hit the new R9 Supertri today...

Just got it last Thursday with the 9.5 Fubuki 73g in X-Stiff. Love it. Was crushing it. Probably the shaft is of course really good. I gave it to the guy next to me to try out vs. his r9 460, swapped the shafts so he could use his and he was nailing it. You guys are right. It does have a higher launch. I like it lower and might go down to a 8.5. Then once I do that, the SuperDeep will come out! I hear that is THE CLUB to have... -
Big thing too is really rushing the downswing and moving the head to cause the shanks. Gotta give enough distance, make a nice shoulder turn, hinge the wrists, keep the left arm straight, and don't move forward. Nice and smooth

How Do You Hit 170 Yards With 7 Iron?
erwintrace08 replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I believe technique is #1, then how fast you can swing as #2 It's obviously all physics, but if you can supinate at impact like Hogan says in his 5 Fundamentals and the "magical device," you have part of it down. Lag is big too and it's not swinging hard, but fast. I say technique is #1 because you have 6-4 guys in the long drive (for example) hitting 380+. You have Jamie Sadowski at 5-10 hitting it the same or even 400+. Why? Technique. Probably #3 would be learning how to do a Dim Mak like Van Damme did in the movie Blood Sport e -
How do you learn to keep a steady head?
erwintrace08 replied to mcman1's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Best advice I ever got was from a guy I met at the range. He said that it was a tip he heard from George Bush Sr. to keep his head still. If you try this, it totally works. You don't have to build a device like some of the other posts mentioned that will turn a MacGyver tin can into a tank: "Keep the distance between your head and the ball the same during start, backswing and downswing as long as you can." If you need to picture a stick that's connected from your forehead to your ball, it may help. Try this out and see if this works. Just keep that distance the same. e -
Please help me on my swing
erwintrace08 replied to erwintrace08's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hey Erik, I tried that "glove under the armpit" drill and have never hit my irons that precise. I remember you and the others said my right elbow collapses as the top. The "glove under the pit" specifically fixes that, right? Thanks, e -

WOW!!! Thanks so much Eric, SenorChipotle and Jamo. I truly appreciate it so much and thank you for your time. You guys are awesome. I totally understand what you are saying. Eric- That's more than I was expecting, but if I probably would do the same for someone in need of golf help (assuming I was a low HC). Anyway, I did a full color print out and took note of what you said. It totally makes sense too and the reason I do certain things. Let me just show you how much sense you guys make. Here is what you mentioned: 1) Shoulder plane is a bit flat: I do notice my hands are low at the top and far from my head. This is the reason my 90* with my right arm breaks down. Also, with the flat plane, this is why I have a hard time taking more divots. My bad shots are hitting it fat. 2) Need more room so I don't flip the club: I do see this and also know it's because I don't extend my arms out enough. I attached another breakdown and added a few things. When club is parallel to the ground on the take away, my hands aren't fully extended = flipping the club and another power leak. This is another reason why the right elbow collapses. 3) Move weight from back on heels to toes: I noticed I'm not close to the ball. I was watching Dustin Johnson hit the Ace today and it was like he was on a building ledge looking down. You said also I dip and the head goes towards the ball, which cramps the left arm. You are totally right. I do get closer to the ball and that's why for probably over 1 year, I was fighting the "SH@N_s" and it was so frustrating. It totally makes sense now guys. Again, thank you so much from another golf fanatic who wants to improve badly. I will send you a before and after shot in 2 months Have a great weekend, Trace -

Thanks so much for the feedback. I would love more. I definitely see what you mean on the dips. Is there any way you suggest training someone to avoid the dipping? I try to think of keeping my body and head like it's anchored to the ground, but it still doesn't work. Any training tips or swing thoughts? http://thesandtrap.com/forum/asset.p...2&d;=1265358574 http://thesandtrap.com/forum/asset.p...2&d;=1265358570 Trace -
Hi Guys, I've been trying to fix my swing. At impact, I know my elbows aren't together and I should finish with the club head near my right butt rather than across my neck. Also, I need a straighter back. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I've always had a bad habit of dipping my head. I've tried to keep my spine straight. I downloaded a Nicklaus iPhone app and he said to visualize my head through my butt is nailed to the ground. It's been working, but if you see, I still have the same problems. I have a head that must weigh 20lbs and it may be the reason but in all seriousness, how do you guys keep your head from dipping? Any swing thoughts or tips? Also, what else am I doing wrong. Am I way to fast at impact? Thanks so much!!! Trace

"Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" by Ben Hogan
erwintrace08 replied to iacas's topic in Reading Room
Read through the book over Christmas. Awesome because you sometimes fail to forget the basic setup from foot positions to grip to posture. They say 5 Fundamentals does not go over the "Magical Device" or missing piece Hogan was going to unveil before he died. I'm reading right now "Ben Hogan's Magical Device" which is talking about the one thing to think about when you are hitting. So far, it seems like it is the triangle your arms and hands make, hovering the club at address, and ensuring to supinate with the palm of your top hand (left hand for righties). e -
Shanks are destroying my game
erwintrace08 replied to millencolinman's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Posted this in the other Shank question: Can I honestly tell you guys a guaranteed way of fixing this??? I usually shoot in the low 80s and had the shanks for 1 entire year!!! It was the worst feeling and I've studied it over and over and over and you hear: 1) Spacing 2) Inside out 3) Outside in 4) Put a wood next to the ball so you don't stick your arms out and hit the hozzle All of these tips worked a little, but I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT and CANNOT SHANK!!! I learned the reason for the shank is: 1) You're not hinging your wrists quickly enough 2) You're not making enough shoulder turn 3) Too much tension on your back hand 4) Too fast on the down swing 5) Lifting your head It actually came out when my buddy told me I don't bring my club higher than my arms at 9 O'Clock. He told me to hinge my wrists more and I can go parallel. What I didn't know is that it totally fixed my shanks. Hinging/Cocking the wrists early and inside made me naturally turn my shoulders. Also, slow down your swing and make it nice and easy like Fred Couples or Ernie Els. If you use all arms and get lazy on turning the shoulders, you get an out-to-in swing. Try it and let me know how it works. Just cock/hinge the wrists early and turn those shoulders. It works on the pitches and long irons. Good luck and let me know how it goes! e -

Sergio HAS ditched his R9 driver..
erwintrace08 replied to jcard71's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
He's blaming the driver for his woes with Greg Norman's daughter. I know he didn't really "blame the driver," but he's been opening his mouth too much. I'm a Sergio fan, but he should try the 460. It's longer shaft-wise and definitely longer distance-wise too! -
I just traded in my Tour Burner Rescue '08s for these and like them a lot better. The Tour Burner Rescues felt like woods and were too big. They also were 5 grams lighter and felt like a rubber band. I really like these '09 Rescues so far. Solid club...

scotty cameron users, need advice
erwintrace08 replied to vivek35's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the Studio Select Mid Slant 2 and Fastback that I just won at a tournament. I have been putting pretty good with the blade, but the Fastback (mallet type) feels more consistent. The design helps me hold my stroke until the end. Can't go wrong with Scotty's. I would say try out both in the store or even go to a Roger Dunn or a store with a 90-Day return policy to check it out. I would start with the Fastback. It's just a matter of your stroke and which makes you feel more confident... -
Just bought the R9 460! I love it!

I'm sure you'll do fine. It's forgiving. Just don't overswing it ;) -

erwintrace08 replied to nutsnbolts's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Funny Taylor Made keeps doing this, but they are still the #1 Driver on Tour (of course by contract the tour players have to play the new ones or at least use the headcovers and wear the caps) and we keep buying them. LOL I heard they already have the trademark registered on the "R11" I can't wait for it! LOL. In 5 years...maybe they'll put it with NOS similar to the Air Force One club. That thing may blow up in the face -
It's really just the shaft. Just like the 420cc, the 460cc heads are the same. So the difference is the shaft. The "F1 Motore" in the TP is supposed to be much better than the regular "Motore." I love the 460. e

I got the 460 as well, TP X Stiff Shaft. It hits much better than the 420. Distance feels much longer and consistent, feels straighter and the sound is great. I love it!!! -

Hey Grant, I'm pretty disappointed in myself too...especially for playing for about 3 years....LOL...on a downhill it might roll to 350...haha But the 460 is pretty darn nice. I didn't change the weights anyway in the 420, so figured the 460 would work out. How do you like yor R9? e -
Hey Guys, Just thought I'd share. I was playing the R9 420cc and it was great. However, I wanted more forgiveness and got the 460 last Friday and it is AMAZING!!! Sound, forgiveness, feel. Solid club. I know there are a lot of people that don't like TM especially when they come out with so many clubs. Thing is you can keep upgrading if you have a golf store near by with a 90-day policy. With the R9 420, I was hooking the ball a lot. But I changed from a Stiff to an "X-STIFF" F1 Motore and I'm straight and LONG. At least 290 carry. I've just hit it twice, so I'm expecting to get to 320 or more with roll with I was doing with my R9 420. If you have any questions about the difference between the two, ask me Thanks, e

To the original person who posted, from research, listening and reading, if you want to spin the ball: 1) Take a divot 2) Your Ball 3) Clean grooves 1) I've been told by a lot that I have a shallow or flat swing which I'm trying to fix. This is the reason why I don't have spin is that I don't take divots. If you watch golf on CBS, they show the compression of the ball being "pinched" and the ball rolling up the grooves of the club. Logically, that creates the backspin by "hitting down on the ball." If you are a "sweeper" or have a shallow/flat swing, you don't really hit down on the ball decreasing your chances of putting spin on the ball. 2) I use Titleist Tour Prestiges from Costco and they are like rocks. If I do take a divot (unintentionally), my ball will stop, but not move forward. So I agree with Grant and the others that the softer the ball (like the ProVs), the greater the chances of producing spin. IF the ball is hard, it does not catch on the grooves that well. IF the ball is soft, the ball will catch on the grooves and increase the spin. 3) You gotta clean the grooves. Just ensure you clean your clubs after each shot. If your wedges get old, they even have that sharpener which I believe is USGA legal called the groove sharpener you can pick up on ebay. Last thing, this is golf and we are all trying to help one another out here. I don't think being critical on someone else's comments are cool. This is golf unless you are drinking the Barry or A-Rod Juice, you might have some agro in you...lol e
