Even at 125mph @2.5 = ~313 yards. Tiger has bombed some shots over 350yards on fairly straight ground what could be the reason for that. Also I have trouble keeping my drive low. I have tried 8.5 angle drivers and my shot goes higher than people that have a 10.5. I get long carries with little roll, I sppose that is alright but it is very high and with any wind it really affects my shot. What could be the cause of this?

Too big a distance gap between my PW and SW
Petden replied to reif99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Most of the time I screw up my shots anyway, but just ease up on the power. If you dont feel like getting another club, that would be my suggestion. -
Where can I find out my swing speed?
Petden replied to Uthinkso's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
There are also devices which you can purchase and attach to the bottom of your club to gauge the speed. -
The thing that helped most with my driver is being told to "drag the club back as far as you can". For whatever reason it gave me a fluid motion and straightened up my shot. Driver is usually the hardest club to hit.

I would say that golf is the hardest sport to improve on. Nothing is ever constant. You depend solely on yourself. It takes a perfect beyond that of almost any other sport. A 5 handicap is almost perfection. At that point you are among the top golfers in the world. If you can learn from each shot, what you ahve done wrong and rarely make that mistake again then you may get that 5 handicap. You will need hours of practice each and everyday - meaningful practice where you can become aware of concepts of the swing that were not obvious before. If you can achieve that goal in that time frame you should contiue practicing becasue in a few years at that pace you could make the PGA.

Out of curiosity whats the highest swing speed you've acheived while mantaining a decent shot? I believe mine was 119-121mph, measured at the local golf town. My carry was around 295. I have had longer shots on the course but I dont know what those speeds were.

The worst in my opinion is trying to flop a shot from 10yards out and accidentally skulling it. Those usually end up in an extra 2 shots for me.

Could I Benefit from Stiff Shafts?
Petden replied to nokmond's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
A stiff shaft is a completely different feel, as it should be. I would keep the flex you ahve now unless you feel you are overpowering it. In a game the felx doesnt matter it's how you hit each club that counts. I would test it out and see if you like feel, if not "Laisez-Faire". -
Im not sure if this is because of the angle but the second video seemed to me as if you were chopping wood. My swing is no where near perfect, so I am not insulting yours, just providing an opinion. It looks like you came with the club face open and then tried to correct it by quickly closing it and that caused the ball to go right.
-
On the second video as you make contact, or even a bit before, you lift your head. This also throws off your balance. Try to not be so eager to look at your shot. The way I look at it is: lift your head and see a crappy shot, or keep your head down and let the other people watch a beautiful shot. The head movement should come naturally from the follow through.

Whats up with my shot? Very inconsistent
Petden replied to ttime's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If you are constantly getting this "line dirve" it is because you are coming in too high on the plan and not passing under it enough. At the driving range you should feel that you are making slight contact with the mat. -
Looking for some swing feedback (video)
Petden replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The swing looks pretty good, IMO. It might be that you are rolling over your wrist too quickly and leave the face either open or close it too much. -
I hit my 7 iron the same distance as my 9 iron...
Petden replied to tigerwoods's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Also it may be that you are easing up on the swing speed on the clubs. Mentally you might be trying to slow down the SS without knowing it to ensure you have perfect contact, that might be it. This might also lead to the shaft fitting issues. I have a problem with my 9I and my PW. With perfect contact my PW is around 145-150y, while perfect contact for my 9I is 150y. Also I ahve a question about hitting the 3 and 4 irons. I can not hit them for the life of me. They are about 20y or more shorter than my 5 iron. what tips do you guys have for improving them. -
Getting a clubfitter would be a good idea. There are many shafts which seem good but it is hard to tell which is best. With school and everything, I dont have much time, so I will ahve to wait for the schedule to clear up a bit. In the mean time, is there anything that I can do to try and figure out what I would be looking for in a shaft/flex on my own?

Rugby. I have been playing for the last 4 years and I just love it, both mentally and physically exhausting.

Recently I have been looking at replacing my clubs. Anyone here have experience with any of these: Driver- Cobra L4V X Woods-Callaway X graphite Irons-Nike CCI Wedge- Nike slingshot 4D sand Putter- Taylormade Rossa Monza Spider I have tried the putter the woods and the driver. All of them seemed great. The putter is a bit expensive but I have never felt anything like it. Also if you know of any sites that sell clubs, or a website that has reviews of the clubs that would be helpfull.

More power and distance behind the ball.
Petden replied to justinmill14's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
That makes sense. I am still learning, as I do not wish to stay at a 30 handicap. Unfortunatly time does not permit and I only get out and play maybe 5 times a year. -
I tried one for about 10 shots at a driving range. It would take some getting used to but I suppose that might work.

More power and distance behind the ball.
Petden replied to justinmill14's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
How do I explain this. Obviously the club speed will start at zero, but forcing the shot, will cause it to peak way before it should becasue the person can not sustain that power/speed that they started with. Also to go with your analogy- It would be like someone trying to sprint 1km when they know they can only sprint for 500 meters. after the 500 meters he will have to slow down because he doesnt not have the energy/endurance it takes to keep the speed. I have to admit though I did think the speed would peak at contact. Could you explain why it would peak afterwards? -
This course I played out, has a par 3 that, in my opinion is very diffficult. I can never seem to do well on that hole. 203 yards slightly uphill, and a huge body of water running from 40 yards out all the way to the 190. I have trouble hitting my 3 and 4 irons so I am stuck with a 5 iron or 5 wood. With either club I over shoot it or put it in the water. I dread that hole.

One thing I would like to mention after watching the video, is as you start your downswing it appears you reach out for the ball and start to force instantly instead of gradually increasing your speed. The over extending and that instantaneous force would cause you to leave the face open on impact; unless you realize that it is open and close the face too fast, which again would cause you to pull it in the opposite direction.

There is a website I was told about that sold imitaion Callaway X18's for around $250. Those are probably the imitations. I heard good reviews, but I would pass.

My average SS is 106-108MPH, with a regular flex shaft. I used to swing at 114-118MPH, until I broke my 3 wood's shaft. Average carry is now at 260yards. I have a question about which flex to choose. I am unsure as to whether I should go with stiff or x-stiff. I tried x-stiff but it felt weird, I really had to put the speed up for it to feel good.

More power and distance behind the ball.
Petden replied to justinmill14's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
To get the most distance out of your swing you need to make solid contact, while the speed of your club is peaking. That's why when you force the swing too much at the beginning the speed will peak at the top of the downswing and you will be decelerating the rest of the way through - one impacting your distance, in a negative way, and you might loose the stability of the club and shank the shot. Be relaxed, and don't try to murder the ball, be easy and solid. -
Having Trouble Gettings Hands to Roll Through Impact
Petden replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
When I started golfing, seriously, 5 years ago, I wanted to hit the ball as far as I possibly could, so I picked up a driver and started swinging. After about a year of slicing about 95% of my shots I got some help. I was told to pull the club back as far as you possibly could. This would allow you to establish a visual aid of the motion the club must take on the down swing. Next I was told to only pull back slightly and use only the wrist-roll motion to strike the ball. Trying to time the wrist-roll with such a shallow motion was difficult but in the end it seemed to help. I am not very good but my drivers are generally fine.
