I have 3 in 15 years. My first was 7 years before the second and my third was only 2 years after (this year).

Tough ball-striking day for me... shot 96 at Tahoe Donner in Truckee, CA. I felt like I had never swung a club before in my life. The greens were still super shaggy as they only opened 2 weeks ago! I chalk it up to playing a lot of golf at a par 3 course in town that requires a lot of 3/4 wedges. We play a weekly skins game in the summer at that par 3, which is a ton of fun, but terrible for my full course game. Looking at some free lessons from my buddy that is a pro from a local course... maybe that will help.

It isn't always as simple as calories in versus energy expenditure. Hormonal imbalances caused by a poor diet (see: Standard American Diet) can make it so that one cannot lose weight even when they are burning more than they are consuming. Cortisol, aka the Stress Hormone, is one such hormone that prevents fat loss and causes fat gain, especially around the mid section. By "resetting" your hormones, you can get your body back to a more efficient calorie burning machine, but you must maintain a healthy diet or the hormones will go haywire again. Intermittent fasting is actually an effective strategy for "resetting" your hormones, and has been studied extensively. In fact, Dr. Ohsumi won a Nobel Prize for his work on autophagy (cellular cleansing), which is achieved through Intermittent Fasting. I personally use Intermittent Fasting, not as a way to lose weight, but as a way to stay lean, strong, and healthy. It is also more convenient not having to eat breakfast everyday! Here's a link to a great article that links to the studies on IF. https://authoritynutrition.com/10-health-benefits-of-intermittent-fasting/

Shot my first sub-80 round of the year. 79 at Dayton Valley Golf Course in Dayton, NV. It was my fifth round of the year and the first time my driver and irons cooperated in the same round. I had a triple bogey on 9 and a double on the back side. So I feel a 79 was very solid considering I had those two blow-up holes. 2 birdies on the round with many more opportunities that went begging. Oh, did I mention I suffered a very slight hairline fracture to my right fibula 2 weeks ago? Good thing I golf righty and could keep most of the weight off my leg!

46 on the front with 1 birdie. 38 on the back with 2 birdies and an eagle opportunity that turned into par. 84 on the day, which is decent for my first round of the year. Looking to get the handicap into the single digits this year as I just moved next to a course with a decent practice facility. Short game is king!

Thanks tomvk77! I went to the range today and tried standing a bit closer to the ball and what do ya know... I made much better contact. I stood much closer with my 3 wood, which has been my achilles club, and I struck it wonderfully. Playing North Star tomorrow and I'm hoping to carry today's practice over into the round.

I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years or so My current handicap index or average score is: I don't actively keep a handicap but I generally shoot 8-10 over. My typical ball flight is: typically low to medium flight with a slight draw. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: chunking the ball or spraying it right with my irons and I also have a tendency to cross over and duck hook the ball with my driver. I have 2 videos for your viewing/criticizing/critiquing pleasure. I apologize for the poor iPhone quality. The first video is a 7 iron. I was hitting a little behind the ball this day, which I think was more of an alignment/stance issue as I tend to not go through my full pre-shot routine on the range. It looks like my follow through may be a touch steep, but I'll leave that up to you to determine. The second video is my driver (either that or a strange new putter). I have been hitting my driver pretty well recently but I am always willing to take advice. Videos: #1: 7 iron #2: Driver Cheers!

Hey there folks. As a recent college graduate I decided to reward myself with some new irons as the old Titliest 990s I had been playing for the past 6 years have seen better days. I went to Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Northern California to demo some different clubs. I knew that I wanted to upgrade to blade irons in order to challenge and better my game. After hitting different irons I fell in love with the Titleist MB irons and bought a set from my local Golf Headquarters in Reno. I have played 4 rounds with the irons now and I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I shot 84, 81, 95 (my driving/ short game's fault), and 73 (woo!) respectively. Having blades has forced me to focus on controlling my swing tempo and creating solid contact because, as some of you may know, miss-hits are very unforgiving. My friends ask if my distance has increased and I'm not convinced that it has. I think that my focus on solid, pure contact has allowed me to get a bit more distance. The spin and control on these bad boys is phenomenal when I connect with the ball. So I guess the point of this thread is to share how stoked I am on my new clubs and that if you happen to be considering getting blades, but don't think you're ready, I say go for it. Use the blades to improve your game and allow yourself to grow with them. I don't actively keep a handicap but my last 4 rounds (see above) are pretty indicative of my game... minus that 95, that sucked. Some folks may think that only a scratch player can use blades, but I disagree. At this point in my game I know that short game and accuracy off the tee is that which I need to focus in order to keep shooting scores like that 73 (which is my 'career' low). Cheers twc

I played Sierra Sage Golf Course yesterday and shot my lowest round ever. The course is relatively easy but the greens were in great shape. I shot a 2 over 73 with 4 bogeys and 2 birdies. While the course is pretty easy, I am still very happy with how I played. My driver cooperated and my (new) irons were pure. I really put a lot focus into each shot and my greenside play was the best its been. I'm taking this confidence into my next round and hope to shoot a similar score at a tougher course.

A friend of mine gave me an old 56* Vokey that he used in college, so the club was well worn. I keep it in my bag to punch out of rocky areas because I'm not about to scratch my brand new sticks.
-
Played yesterday, first time since my 78, on a tougher/ longer course. Shot 79. Thats two rounds in the 70's in a row.

My left hand has been bothering me during golf as well. It hurts on my hand and first knucle of my index finger. Maybe playing 8 times in the last 2 weeks has something to do about it.
-
Thanks for all the words everyone. My next goal is to be consistent and break 80 more often. 75 would be nice and if I can consitently break 80, 75 or better could happen.
-
Thanks guys. Just keep after it, it will happen. I didn't even think about my score until the last few holes and I realized that as long as I didn't do anything stupid I could break 80. I played yesterday and shot an even front 9 and proceeded to shoot 9 over on the back for an 81.

Finally! Ahh it feels good to finally get a result that I know I'm capable of. I shot a 78 today, my all time best. No birdies, (left 3 hanging by their fingernails) and also no doubles or worse. My short game and putting were spot on. Driving was good enough and I was somehow crushing my irons much more than usual. I realized that for me, the best way to improve my game, is to play as much as possible. While practicing always is good, I just don't have the time to putt for hours. I have been able to play about 6 times in the last 2 weeks and that has helped tremendously. I guess the only point to this thread is to let all you sub-80 seekers know that there is hope. Just keep going after it and it will happen when you least expect. -Trevor

My insight is not as in depth as a few post up but I tore my miniscus 8 weeks ago. I realize its not as serious as a torn ACL but I injured my right knee as you did. I was playing again a week after the injury and I think the only reason I was able to play was because I don't rely on my right leg as much as my left during my swing. You will probably be able to play golf much sooner than baseball or hockey. At 8 weeks I was able to wakeboard again, which probably wasn't very smart but I just took it easy on the board and it was all good. Good luck with your recovery!

I'd rather drink water than mikes! But I know how you feel about golf. I shot 36 on the front 9 today and 45 on the back. How the eff does that happen?
-
Shot an 81. 36/45 I played the front so well and the back just killed me. At least I know I can shoot even for at least 9 holes.
-
I just emailed them and they only send you a bag tag. So it's not like they send you a box of pro v1's.
-
Thanks for the tip, I'll try emailing some companies! And the double eagle is the only one left I have not pulled off. Made my first eagle about a month ago.
-
Thanks! I did have one witness.

I played yesterday at the local country club, of which I am not a member but have the "hook up." It was on par 3, obviously and 143 to the pin. I flushed a 9 iron, best swing all day, and the ball landed 4 inches short of the pin, took one bounce then dunked into the hole. The tees were elevated about 10 feet so I had a perfect view of it going in the hole. Needless to say I was pretty stoked! The rest of my round however, was not my best. Too bad I'm not a member or the drinks would have been free!
-
I drove my first par 4 yesterday! Although I hit the cart path to get the extra 50 yards up to the green. ;)

I shot an 82 today with about 35 putts, which is much better than my last round. I felt like I could have broken 80 but a 3 putt on a par 3 killed my momentum, that and intense hunger.
