Yea, I really like the 905, but you can't go wrong with a Taylormade driver either. I think the 905R is one of the better drivers titleist has ever made. A lot of tour pros still play it even thogh titleist has come out with two new models since.

I've hit the 62s and they aren't very forgiving. If you are a 10 handicap I'd go with the mp-57s or the mp-52s.

Anyone know how to remove the paint fill from irons and wedges? I am thinking about doing this over the winter.
-
Yea I've been eyeing the 660s, which are very similar. I agree with you though, forged irons all feel good if you hit the sweet spot, no matter how much you payed for them.
-
Yea this new wedge they came out with has a similar face to a vokey spin milled, with the small circular millings throughout the face, so it probably produces more spin than the old model. I wish I could demo one somewhere.

I hear they have a dull feel. You don't see to many people that own them either (at least i haven't). You don't see many people with the "better player" cleveland irons in general. I think your money is better spent on mizuno or taylormade, maybe titleist.

Yea I hear the new srixon hybris are solid as well. I didn't like thier irons as much as mizunos, but they were ok when I hit a few. I never see anyone with thier drivers though. The only issue is that it is hard to find the srixon wedges other than getting one on ebay. My pro shop, dicks, and TGW don't carry them.

Golf pride tour velvet is the way to go. They feel more consistent than the new decade, are still very grippy, but are more comfortable than cord.

Pings major market is irons for the average player just like titleist is targeted towards low handicappers. They probably will never make a true muscleback.

I might be buying a new sand wedge next year. I like my titleist vokey, but it is getting worn. Wondering if I should upgrade to spin milled vokey or go with the new srixon wedges. The both have the mill grooved face and nickel finish, and i've heard a lot of good things about the srixons from people I know that have them so I can't decide. Any opinions?

Mizuno mp-30 or mp-60 have the best feel, but not the graetest forgiveness.

My first Scotty Cameron, could it be?

Haha premonitions about putters, pretty silly. I doubt God bothers with sending supernatural messages about a flatsticks. Whatever works i guess... -
I hit the demo set that my club had and they are very nice, but didn't feel that much different from the mizunos I have or my dads mp-60s (both of which are also very nice). Nice bag by the way, thats like all brand new stuff.

Which Of These Wedges Would You Choose
mattymz1 replied to adpostel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Titleist vokeys are a bit more expensive, but well worth it I think. Great for many types of shots. Can't go wrong with clevelands either. Also, the new Srixon wedges that have the faces that look like the vokey spin milled are also really nice. Wedges all look pretty similar so find a finish that appeals to your eye on a wedge that has a good feel and you will be on your way. -
Just my opinion, but I don't think 20 handicaps should play blades. Many of the best tour players don't even play blades due to lack of forgiveness. Even the greats mis hit the ball a lot, so if you can't break 90 than you should stick with cavity backs. The blades will help you a tiny bit on the best day of your career, but they will kill you on an average to poor day (which is many days for a 20+ handicap). Should probably wait until you're in single digits or get shallow cavities (like mp-60s or r7 TPs).

I think the course you played is very important in determining how good a round really was. I shot -1 35 in a match this year on a easy public course, but the +2 38 I shot at a very hard private club we played at was definately a better round. Shooting 79 on a monster course that plays over 7000 yards is better than shooting 72-73 on some rinkydink course. Congrats on 74 in a state am thats pretty damn good for a 7 handicap.

Are Titleist Pro V-1's worth the price?
mattymz1 replied to Alex1's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Honestly, if you are a 36 handicap you don't really need to use the pro v1. If you don't have the skill to appreciate a softer ball like this (in terms of spin and compression) then you might be paying more than you need to on balls. If you really like the feel anyway, but you want to play a similar ball that is a bit cheaper, then I would reccomend the Srixon Z-URS or Z-URC. -
Yea, but I can't swing an x-100 and I'd prefer not to have to get new shafts. I like the irons so I was hoping to get a deal on a new or gently used set, but no online stores carry them anymore. Kinda odd, cuz its easier to find certain titleist sets that are much older.
-
The mizunos with flighted rifle are unbelievable. Much nicer feel than any iron have hit. The only reason I'd drop the mp-30s would be to go to blades.
-
It's okay to have a backup set, but I believe it best to stick with one set you really trust, that is if you really want to be a consistent player, especially in tournaments. Notice how some tour pros play dated clubs (Tim Herron plays ping eye2s, justin rose still has the original r7...). In a pressure situation it is easier to look down at a familiar club that you know you have hit a lot of good shots with.
-
You won't three putt if you are a good putter. It's the indian not the arrow. If this putter gives you confidence then that will help, but practice is what will make you a great player more than a shiny new cameron. I have two camerons and I actually putt better with my forged Yes. I struggled with my putting all season and it definately wasn't the putters fault.
-
Why are the Titleist 660 forged blades so hard to find? There are only a few sets on ebay and I cant find them anywhere else. Anyone know a place that has them? It would seem that they should be on sale now that they are a few models old.

I need help getting back to basics!
mattymz1 replied to King Cobra II's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A lot of this may have to do with your timing and tempo, the most fundamental of the fundamentals. Tour pros are always working on tempo. Try to feel that you are in good rhythm with your backswing and downswing. Your swing might not be bad, you might just be getting to quick from the top or deccelerating, both of which lead to all kinds of problems. If you were hitting it well and all of the sudden are hacking it around, then it is more likely a timing problem than a mechanical problem. They say that if your swing feels off for a few weeks, then it is a good idea to go get a lesson from a pro you like. That will help you more then us duffers giving you advice on the net . -
I just played using a lined ball and I didn't putt too bad. Shot 37 with 7 GIR, 17 putts, only one three putt. The line definetly helps on the tricky 6-8 footers. I think I will try doing this next season (at least on midrange putts) to see if it works consistently in competition. I appreciate the advice.
