  1. Who all plays Ping's S58 irons? Do you like them? Why or why not? How do they compare to a "players" iron? I bet its a long shot, but looking for a comparison between the S58 irons and Mizuno MP60 irons. Im looking for more information on these irons and didn't find much by using the search. I was refunded my money for the MP60's I have (had) because of numerous problems with them, quality wise. I wouldn't mind picking up another set...but I think this is a sign. They were great irons, but after switching from Ping i5's to MP60's, I completely neglected Pings side of a player's iron. I love Ping as a company and their service is unmatched in my opinion, so it would be nice to stick with them if I could. Just wondering if anybody has any previous experience or if i should just stick with getting another set of MP60's.
  2. Overlap. Its what I started with, so its what I use. I can hit with an interlock grip, which is really what I'd like to use for better control on the club sometimes. I can feel that overlapping finger hovering or "getting lost" sometimes in my current swing...not good. I think that will be my winter project Try the interlocking grip and get it to stick.
  3. I regripped my clubs earlier this summer with the same ones. LOVE EM!!! When I ordered my new irons a couple weeks back, needless to say...I asked for the same grips.
  4. I've hit both on the range and on the course. I liked how hot the ball came off the face of the Burner, but didn't like how the club looked or the stock shaft. It just didn't feel comfortable to me. I do NOT regret my decision going with the Superquad however. I love this driver. It has great workability if you're into that. I dont mess with the weight too often...no need unless you can really feel that small of a difference in your swing. I love my Superquad. Looks great at address, swings smooth, and the stock shaft is even being played on tour (most are TP models though)
  5. I added a point too! He deserves it.
  6. whoa nice vid! I like the method you use for determining axis tilt. I will keep that one in mind! Thanks!!!
  7. Have you tried recording your swing? I've seen pretty good analysis of video on this forum and have been tempted to post my own swing even. If you have the equipment and the extra person to help steady and focus....I would do it, that way we could better analyze your swing.
  8. I would guess you mean you are hitting "fat" or "chunking" the ball a little bit huh? When I hit a fat shot, its because of a couple of different factors: 1. I have shifted my weight to my back foot on the downswing istead of the front foot on the down swing, causing my weight to be behind the ball...hence hitting the ground before hitting the ball. 2. I try to "flip" my wrists at impact, this can also cause you to hit it fat. 3. If I try to "scoop" the ball rather than hitting down on the ball. Taking a bit of a divot isn't a bad thing, but it can be if you do it wrong. Im a divot taker, but I tend to have a steep swing and hit down on the ball. This will cause a divot rather than a sweep, but thats just the way I like it. Lots of good feedback on bad/good shots. One thing that really helps me before every shot, is to concentrate on hitting down on the ball and to keep the my spine angle the same throughout the whole swing. Dont dip your body on the back swing or follow through. Nice and level. Dipping can cause a fat shot, pulling up can cause a thin shot. This is where trying to mimick Tiger's swing can get you into trouble. He does his signature dip on the down swing and really gets his lower body into it, but he does it well....very well.
  9. When I learned how to draw my driver consistently. For the life of me I cannot draw my Pings on a consistent basis like I can the MP-60's and the driver. Not that a draw is "better", but I can control a draw better than controlling a straight shot if that makes any sense. Also, I wanted a club with a thinner top line, smaller sole, and heavier swing weight. As my swing speed increased, I was having trouble predicting where the clubhead was going to end up at impact with the I5's. The I5's have a lighter swing weight than the MP-60's. I know I could get that changed, but along with the reasons I mentioned above and the fact that I grew out of my R-flex shafts on the Pings (which for me was causing a fade)........it was time for a change. Plus a smokin' deal on custom fit MP-60's with Project X shafts pretty much just pulled the trigger for me.
  10. haha. Thats what the index sais. I've had some nasty spreads this season though. Lately (past couple of months) I've been shooting consistent low 80's upper 70's golf. But.......earlier this spring I had a couple disaster rounds of upper 90's and even a 104 I believe. 25 mph gusting winds on a links style course and my game was horrendous!!! I dont think I had a green that I didn't 3 putt. Im not as consistent as I'd like to be, but lately I've been happy with the results of this season. Back to the topic on hand. Looks like you're getting pretty good feedback from some people on here. I hadn't even thought about the Mizuno MP-57's. I haven't seen them in person yet, but they look like a very forgiving, cavity-back iron and they're made by Mizzy so you cant go wrong!!! Give em a shot too!
  11. Practice, practice, practice. Im at where Im at right now because golf is a daily thing for me usually. If Im not on the course at least for a quick 9, I'll hit the range or putting green for a little bit. Golf just kind of came natually I suppose. I am nowhere near perfect though, I will never be able to make a career out of this game and thats just something I've accepted. Its just a lot of fun to try to perfect something that you will never be able to perfect. As far as me getting new irons, I went FROM my Pings TO MP-60's. Went from I5 (game improvement cavity back) to MP 60's (players iron muscle back).
  12. I started golfing early last summer with a set of Ping I5's. Technically, I started with a "Walmart" set pretty much that I was borrowing for my first couple times out just to make sure I even liked the sport. Yeah......turns out this game can be addicting. So, I gradually improved my bag till I felt comfortable with what I was using for equipment compared to my skill level. I couldn't be happier with the Pings I have now. For game inprovement irons aswell as players irons, Ping makes a great club. Im growing out of my Pings and I actually just picked up some Mizuno MP-60's, but thats just because I wanted a blade style iron with more workability. I would say the I5's would be perfect for your handicap. In my opinion, the Raptures or the G5's would be "too much" of a game improvement iron for you. All in all, you need to choose a club you feel comfortable hitting. If you get set on a "game improvement iron" but dont like the way they feel, look, play...then ur screwed already. If you get your hand on a set of "not so much" a game improvement iron, but you can hit em, they feel great, and you have confidence when looking down on them, then why not lean towards that one? Good luck with the search, I just had to pitch the Pings, as I think they make a GREAT set of irons.
  13. It means that you're hitting the ground first by quite a bit before making contact with the ball. This can be caused by a number of different things. Most popular ones are too steep of a downswing, swaying on the back foot at impact causing the weight transfer to be on the back foot instead of the lead foot, or the breakdown or cupping of the lead wrist at impact to name a few.
  14. Turned 22 in June. Junior at NDSU, started playing last summer. Its been a complete addiction. I play every chance I get. LOVE THE GAME!!!
  15. Been a lifelong Dallas fan and always will be. Stuck with em in the bad times and Im happy they have potential now and I just voted for "other". Dallas all the way!!!!!
  16. I hit the 60's with a slightly lower ball flight than the I5's. Seemed like they had more of a "pop" to em though. Got off the club face pretty hot. Swing plane is about normal. Its not flat or steep. If anything, its a bit more steep than it would be flat if you had to choose. Im a divot taker. I tend to hit down on the ball rather than sweep it. Seems like with the wedges though, I can take quite a divot sometimes. This is fine if I can get to the ball first, but If I come up a bit short (ground first), I dont get the spin or distance I was looking for with the wedge shot. Not sure if this helps, but I hit my wedges slightly better than I hit my irons. I love the swing weight, topline, and the thin sole of my wedges. Just look sleeker and gives you that "I can take a divot easily" kind of feeling. Look at the topline of my pings, and I dont get that same feeling. Also, nothing sweeter than the feel of an on center hit with a blade. Kinda why Im leaning towards the 60's. I look down on the Pings and they just look "clumpy" or "fat" to me.
  17. Now I get it. Thanks for the clarification!
  18. So the Project X Flighted gives a little bit lower ball flight compared to just the Project X?
  19. Been in this process of buying new irons for about a year now. Im going away from the Ping I5's, with a regular flex shaft. I hit the pings fairly well, but after demoing NUMEROUS sets of "players" irons, I love the Mizuno's. Thinner top line, thinner sole, easier to hit in my opinion...and the feel is amazing!!! I hit the MP-60's well, and in my opinion, it will "force" me to become a better player by getting player's irons. My questions is the flex and type of shaft I should purchase. I hit a regular flex true temper on my pings. This set was actually given to me when I first started golfing a couple years ago. My swing speed was much slower and overall ability was less. (Handicap was about a 30 when I started). I hear great things about Project X shafts. Where I live, they dont have any for demo on the MP-60s in my area. As far as "getting fitted", count that out because there are no authentic fitters in my area either. Not even a launch monitor for at least 60 miles. Sucks I know. Anybody on here play Project X shafts? What did you play before and did you notice a difference? Are they worth the extra money or are you paying or the name? I would like to bump up to a stiff flex shaft on my irons, so would that be about a 5.5 or so in the Project X standards? Im also open to any other contributions on shaft selection. I play stock Ping true temper shafts now with regular flex and my ball flight is normal. Average 7 Iron carry is 160 to 165 yards with very little roll.
  20. Thanks again for more suggestions. The Cowboys course looks like a lot of fun, although it didn't list any time for the twillight prices. I honestly dont know what they consider twillight hours. Anybody??? This is going to be a tough decision!
  21. The stadium is in Irving right? Im staying about a mile away from the stadium. How far away is Euless?
  22. Actually, Im a huge Cowboys fan. Have been all my life. My name is Dallas, so I was pretty much "forced" at a very young age a Cowboys fan. I've been to the Dallas area once before, but it was for a Rangers game. I will be staying in Irving. Less than a mile from Texas Stadium. One of the Marriot branches...I forget. I have a hookup that has like 1.2 million points with Marriot, so we get free rooms wherever we go. Kinda nice as that just means more money for golf!!! I did hear about the Cowboys Golf Club. I wasn't aware of any prices though. Im definately still open to course suggestions though. I will continue to check them out as you throw em at me. Im just excited to be golfing in December!!! We dont get a whole lot of "warm" weather up here in ND in December. Be lucky to get above 0 degrees in the peak of winter up here. Haha.
  23. Well, I wasn't too concerned with the price of the green fees. I of course didn't want t pay an outrageous amount either. Another thing is, I'll be taking a cab to wherever I want to play and if these courses are outside of town...the cab ride could get a bit spendy too. I hear from most people that you have to be at least 25 years old to rent a car, so thats out of the question for me. I appreciate the suggestions though. Even though its a long shot, I'll check those courses out anywa.
  24. I am planning a vacation to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area from December 15 to the 18. I'll be hitting up the Cowboys/Eagles game that Saturday, but I definately wanted to get some golfing in. Anybody from that area on here? If so (or not), I'd like to get some advice on some decent courses to play. I'll be playing alone, so if there's anybody from around there and wants to jump in and play a round or two, let me know. Thanks!!!
  25. Well...you have your responses. If the responses you are getting are not what you were looking for then I would suggest being a bit more clear on what you would like. Anyways, Im getting anywhere from 4 to MAX bars. Never below that. Good luck and hope you get it figured out. I dont know what I would do if my skycaddie quit on me.....It has become my evil, dependent golf crutch.
