  1. my divot is around 3/4 to an inch deep with my irons. I'll try the above suggested. I think I just need more practice.
  2. Switching from Big Bertha 08 irons to Mizuno MP 57's (more of a blade) I found my divot size went up signifigantly. My miss hits went from fat with the Game improvement Bertha's to thin with my Mizuno's. I have found that thin miss hits are much more likely to end up where I wanted vs fat which is always short of my target. This would be my #1 reason to rework a swing in favor of a divot. Also I dropped almost 20 strokes from my handicap this season going from shallow to larger divots.
  3. I have finally got a club to try and fill the gap in my set from the 5 iron to my driver (this is a pretty big gap). Some background: I can hit my 5iron tee'd up a consistent 200 yrds and from a decent fairway lie I get about 190 max. My driver is ranging from 250-290 consistently. I play a solid single digit handicap of 8.2 and my last 2 rounds were 73-73 this past sunday and monday (par 72). I play a very easy course measured at 69/113 (schenectady municipal golf course). I got a 19deg. Nickent 3DX utility 5f/w and I have tried other hybrids and woods 3-7 but nothing seems to be consistent. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do in my swing to get good results. Maybe someone can point me to an article explaining what is supposed to be going on during my swing. I play with people who are 20+ handicaps and hit their fairway woods/hybrids clean all the time why do I have so much trouble with this?
  4. I don't use any hybrids or fairway woods. I think I'll add a hybrid this fall when my wife lets me start spending money on golf equipment again. lol I hit my 5I off of shorter par 4's, and I have gotten very accurate with my driver since I don't have the option to hit a wood since my bag doesn't have any. I hit my irons solid enough that I can get away with driver > 5I > 9-PW for the longer par 5's.
  5. What I can't come to understand is how a pro can hit a PW 150-160 yards with a full swing. It never seems like they are over swinging when they hit yet they get so much more distance then the rest of us. I'm working hard to shoot sub 80 with consistent results and after getting a GPS I now have real data for my shots and what I thought was 275yds drives (based on course markers) are in reality 250 ish. If I unload my 6I I can get 175 max from the fairway. I just can't understand how a pro hits like they do. Maybe they have there clubs bent so yardage doesn't really mean anything that I can relate too.
  6. So I've played a few rounds lately with people who have had weights put into the grip of their irons/drivers. I have never heard of these before but the people using them were all very good players probably in the close to zero handicap range. Wondering if anyone has some info on these where to get them etc. and any feedback if you have them now.
  7. I was impressed with how soft the Mizuno Bettinardi BC1 putter was. The new BC lineup has the same face and feel so just find one that has the style you want. Also most of them can be had on ebay for around 125$.
  8. You should get a lesson and fix your golf swing, its probably all over the place out of plane and not in good tempo. Also the shaft is probably too stiff considering your score on a 9 hole round.
  9. Is there a difference between the old upro produced before callaway bought them out? Is the unit the same and are the courses the same? Are there any drawbacks to getting the original?
  10. sure looks to me like he improved his lie, he is clearly giving his clubhead a better chance at cleanly striking the ball. He is not just grounding his club he is matting down the grass behind the ball.
  11. I bought a set of Mizuno MP-57 irons a week ago and have since recorded my lowest 18 hole round 77, and my lowest 9 hole round 38 in the 4 rounds I've played with them so far. I went from a super game improvement iron to these and can't say how impressed I am with them. Also included with my irons I picked up a mizuno mp-R series 56 wedge and find it leaps and bounds better then my 56 vokey spin milled wedge I was using. I just feel like the mizuno's sole is easier to work with. Also it is a little heavier then the Vokey which kinda gets knocked around in deeper rough.
  12. Wow over 600 yards I can't imagine standing on that tee box
  13. I like to go to 1/2 swing when I can't get good contact going. Hit about 20-30 at the range 1/2 swing then another 20-30 3/4 swing. Then when I feel confident I move into the full swing.
  14. I agree with the 50 yds and in for bump and run. Unless I have to hit under trees and the shot requires a bump and run (usually with some praying in there too) I try not to hit it over 50.
  15. I have a set that is going up on ebay this sunday, the 08 Callaway Big Bertha irons. These are incredibly forgiving and really help promote a high ball flight (was the hardest part for me as a beginner). I got them mid last summer with a handicap around 25 or so and now have a 10. I just purchased a set of mizuno's and so the Callaways are going. I suggest you consider used clubs as there are great deals out there to be found. Ping me if your interested I'd be happy to sell em 275 shipped I can email you pics and more info. Standard grips, length, loft, lie. Regular flex shafts.
