  1. i know cutting 1" off my driver shaft will change the swingweight and it wont fly as far... but will it make a huge difference?? i'm looking for a bit more control with my driver, and i honestly dont like these newer longer shafts.. i'm contemplating cutting down one of my old drivers that i've retired to see if i'll like it. have any of you guys tried this?? if so, what effect did it have?? i know this thread has been posted before, ive searched but the info i've found is'nt exactly what i'm looking for... also, i'm going to reshaft my mp fli hi 3 iron.. the s300 shaft is a bit too stiff for me, i was wondering what the little plastic ferrule does? is it just for looks or does it have a reason for being there?? (it'll be my first time reshafting)
  2. no it doesnt fall out... this drill helped my control issues with my irons alot... however i developed a flatter and shorter swing because of this and its hurt my driving i developed a habit of tucking my right elbow into my ribcage and keeping it there untill just after impact... ive been working on getting rid of this problem but havent had any success yet...
  3. no they're not overrated. they're priced similar to most major oem's wedges... i love mine. i cant imagine playing anything else...
  4. that is bullcrap. i suck at golf and i can hit a 2 iron better than a hybrid. their kool-aid has got to be tainted. i was surprised they mentioned most mid-high handicappers should ditch their 3 woods... i never take their hot lost issues seriously, it always seems as if they're being bribed by certain manufacturers... however.. i do look forward to the reviews of the new maxfli balls....
  5. x3 on the steelhead. ive had my original steelhead 4 wood since around 2001 and i just recently replaced it with a ping rapture 17*. (it's stamped as a 5 wood but it carries a 4 wood loft) the steelhead was great, very versitale and went a long way... but the face was so worn out from repetitive use over the years that i decided to replace it... the ping rapture was the only FW besides the g10 and TM burner that i liked... it has a deeper face than most fairway woods, but ive gotten used to it..... its very forgiving and i hit it as far as my buddy hits his driver.... ive never carried a 3 wood. never been able to hit one consistently off the deck and the 4 wood was just 10 yards shorter than the 3 wood (for me) and ive never had any trouble getting the ball airborne, so ive just been using them ever since... hope this helps
  6. ingram is stoppable. Auburn had him and their entire offense shut down untill the last drive.. but i do think bama will win. im kinda hoping they dont cause i dont want to hear all this "rammer jammer yeller hammer" crap and RTR all day long next week at work.... yeah you guessed it.. i'm an auburn fan...
  7. while i love pings... if i had the game i'd go with mizuno. my mp fli-hi 3 iron is absolutely amazing. i can't imagine what it would be like to have a whole set of mizuno irons... ive heard so-so reviews about their woods... but i could probably get used to them quickly.... if only they made balls.....
  8. when i had my hogans i carried a 52,56, and 60* vokey set... but since ive gotten my g5's, ive pulled the 56* vokey and kept the 54* ping sw and bent the vokey 52 to 50*. i like the extra bounce of the ping sw for shots out of the rough and i'm more comfortable with it for full shots.. my g5 set came with a 58* LW but that quickly got thrown in the garage, i like to be able to lay the face open on my 60* when i need to... the g5 wedges spin quite a bit for being stock cavity back super clunkers... alot more than i expected them to....
  9. never used one. i usually fly the ball to the hole with my 60*, even when its on the fringe. if i need it to run i'll just bump it with an 8 iron.
  10. went on a bit of a shopping spree today... got a mizuno gto stand bag, mizuno mp fli hi 21* 3 iron, ping rapture 17* fairway wood, a b60 putter, a tour burner driver(price was too good to pass up) and had my 52* bent to 50* i love edwin watts.... after going there i highly doubt i will ever go to the local dicks sporting goods store anymore, unless i need golf balls....
  11. i'm only 25 and i do think about the past from time to time... i miss playing football, i miss the 2 a days, hitting fat people, beating up the freshmen, raising cain every night after the games, and thinking i owned the world. i miss being able to play golf every single day after school... stealing beer from my friend's dad, beating the hell out of my jeep at summertown, burning rubber at every red light, and throwing a frisbee in the walmart parking lot at 2 am... camping out in the woods all summer long and watching my buddy cry after wiping his behind with poison oak.. but now that ive gotten older.. ive found other things to pass my time, while they may not be as fun, they're a whole lot safer and more mature... ive been married since i was 20, i have a 3 month old daughter, i work overtime most weeks, and i only play golf once a week... unlike most people, i have 5 different families to buy christmas presents for.. even with a 30 dollar limit between everybody, i still end up spending thousands of dollars... so its safe to say christmas tends to lose its mojo after awhile.
  12. ive read both of his previous books and the lost symbol was my favorite of them all. its largely about freemasons and thats a subject thats always held my interest...
  13. ive always been into jeeps and rock crawling (i'm an outdoor buff) heres a pic of my jeep i recently sold due to just having a baby... and back when it had a blue cage.... heres why my wife decided i couldnt "afford" it anymore once my daughter was born... i'm a bit on the hardcore side i guess... that POS was my daily driver for about 6 years and i had over 14k invested in parts alone....
  14. any way you can get me a copy of the famous 1 iron shot pic?? im sure you know what i'm talking about. its always been my favorite one...
  15. most recent book was "the lost symbol" by dan brown. ive read all of his books i can get my hands on and this one was the best of them all. i havent read any of the twilight books but i saw both movies. they were not that bad.
  16. dont know about this... i swing between 98-102 mph with the driver and i can bomb prov1's a long way. i prefer the bridgestones over the pro v1's though. the prov1's spin way too much off my wedges. i prefer a two-bounce over backing it up, i'm more consistent that way... thats just me though...
  17. i would be interested in a 400cc driver. my old launcher 400 was the best driver ever...
  18. my 60* is my favorite club in my bag. i use it for everything from 3/4 swings from 70 yards out to little 2 bounces from the fringe to flops/high pitches when i need to clear a bush or a high mound or whatnot... like others have said.. you need to practice with it. its not as predictable out of the rough as it is out of the fairway(ive hit completely under a ball before, taken a divot and had the ball rest in it) i rarely ever take a full swing with it. ive hitten myself in the forehead with a 61* wedge before a couple years ago, and for some reason i'm just not comfortable taking more than a 3/4 swing with a lob wedge anymore... but its definetly a great club if you can use it properly. i open the face and aim left and swing along the target line with it most the time.. but if i were you i'd practice straightforward pitches and chips and get comfortable with those before you start trying other shots...
  19. i have had a mild case of the shanks with my wedges before back when i used only my arms... now i rotate my body through on the follow through and havent had them since...
  20. im guessing it wasnt a dymo driver... they dont look like they could possibly break a window.... it had to be a mizuno or miura iron with a nike stamp on it seriously though.. i dont care what happened. tiger's ok. he will keep playing golf and keep winning tournaments.
  21. if its hot pink and black i'd wear it.
  22. the pings are actually alot more forgiving than the hogans... i just have no confidence with them when i address the ball. ballls hit off the toe of the hogans come out dead with no spin.. toe hits with the pings actually go a long way, just leak slightly right... i dont want "new" irons.. i just want some a bit more forgiving without the offset of GI irons... i dont see how yall go 6-8 months without playing golf. i'd die. i actually play all through winter i dont care how cold it gets. i put the hogans back into the bag. i play better with them, even when im not having a good day on the course.. they're much more satisfying to play with and it feels alot better when i strike the ball compared to the cast pings... and i agree with you.. the hogans are way more beautiful. maybe thats why i cant hit the pings... they're ugly... lol.. i'm just gonna suck it up and keep playing my irons. anybody know a good place to have them refinished/replated?? they're browning pretty bad on the faces and the paint fill has pretty much rubbed off...
  23. ive been playing ben hogan apex plus irons for quite some time now... ive always struck them very well.. i had a baby 3 months ago and i work alot of overtime, so i dont have much time to practice anymore.. my ball striking has suffered so i decided to get some cavity backs like most people in my situation do... my problem is.. most cavity backs have too much offset for me and i have zero confidence with thick toplines... found a set of ping i-3 blades... they're nice and compact. thought i'd like them on the course... well, i hate them. long irons still have a bit too much offset and i cant get over how the cast irons feel when i strike the ball. im having trouble trying to fade the ball with them for some reason (the fade is my go-to shot, since i fight a nasty snap hook) my question is.. should i stick with the pings and hope my confidence level increases?? ive hit some great shots with them and they're very forgiving.. but the entire time i'm playing with them i'm wishing i had my hogans...
  24. i wear a hot pink and black trion:z bracelet. it does nothing for me whatsoever. i just wear it cause its pretty.
  25. i thought i was the only one who couldnt hit a hybrid untill i found this site a while back. my buddy has a much worse swing than me and he can smash his hybrid all over the place. its weird. i cant hit one to save my life neither... i always either duck hook it or hit it sky high with a ball flight that resembles a PW. and i can hit my 2 iron just fine off the fairway... but i mostly just hit knockdowns with it when my driver gets me in trouble... could be a mental thing because i'm so used to being able to hit long irons quite well...
