  1. Try a set of Ap1 Titleist, I am very impressed with mine and they are around for the right money now1
  2. I fancy Adam Scott is due a good round as there seems to be something in players defending titles recently. Nice to see another manc on a mainly US site, where do you play?
  3. I am starting to think that since I was custom fitted for my last driver that the shaft is the most inportant component so if you can pick up your "new" driver used and get it reshafted then why not after all it is the green way to recycle!
  4. Hey Guys, I currently have a Taylor Made Tour Burner 10.5 degree driver which I was custom fitted with a Proforce V2 shaft. It is a 66 gram shaft with 3.0 torque stiff flex. My swing speed is about 95mph. (12 handicap) I average about 250-260yards. I feel I could hit the ball higher and will lose 2 or 3 drives to the right per round. Recently tried a 909 D2 with a voodoo regular shaft and hit a few really nice out to about 270-275 (I even used it to defeat a 6 handicapper in an early round of the club knock-outs) I know the shaft wasn't perfect for me but did like the higher flight than I am used to. Does the torque create higher flight? Should I get my V2 put into a D2 or go for full fitting again? Thanks in advance
  5. Hi, I am looking for some advice on a golf club in the area just south of Dublin. My wife is having interviews for a job there which would result in our relocation. I have looked on a map and Bray is in the sort of area I would like to live in. What is Bray golf club like? Are Dublin golf clubs as easy to get membership as they are in England at the moment? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. I recently did a Titleist demo day at my local range. Booked a 30 min slot and decided that I wanted to try fairway woods. Got fitted with a 3 wood in about 20mins so tried a driver after but didn't get on with it. Well worth going as they have loads of different shafts to try and someone that understands the difference between them all.
  7. Take a look at a 17 degree hybred. I had a cheap one and was impressed now waiting to try the Titelist 909h.
  8. I wasn't really looking to change my irons i was very happy with my Taylor made R7. I saw a set of lightly used AP1s for sale and had someone that wanted my R7s. The thing that has impressed me the most is the high launch shafts, I can hit 4 and 5irons into greens and they land softly. Go and demo a set.
  9. Not sure that being a + handicap is really needed. Ian Poulter turned pro at handicap 4 and worked really hard to win money. I know he is the guy people love to hate but he earns a decent living on tour. If you look at the winning scores on the nationwide tour they are often -18 plus, yet you look at the pga and you would win/ earn a decent living at -3 per round. So what is the difference between the 2? Pressure! I don't think we can appreciate how tough a course is set up for a PGA event.
  10. I would have a look at getting custom fitted on your driver shaft. I had problems with my tour burner stiff and changed to a proforce v2 shaft ($100) and so far seems about 10 yards straighter.
  11. 74,76,78,79 on a par 68. Handicap down from 14 to 12.
  12. I play in England all winter, but have lived in Boston so understand the cold temps. Titleist mitts are great, got a pair to replace a cheap pair I had and they are much better, but I would also throw in a hand warmer on cold days.
  13. I have been thinking a lot about golf balls recently. Generally in the summer I use Pro V1s, my wife bought me ProV1x by mistake and I tried them and they are longer than my V1s so I started using them. I am a 12 handicapper with 95mph swing speed with the driver. I have been looking on Bridgestone's website and they make a "tour" ball for slower swing speeds (330 rx) and it got me thinking that most pros swing over 100mph and most pros use V1 or V1x. My point being I guess a ball designed for a slower swing speed would be better for my game. I want the feel around the green but I also want low spin off the driver for good run out and straight hitting. Is Bridgestone the only manufacturer that type of ball?
  14. I have undergone a swing change assisted by my club pro and feel that my swing path/plane is correct now. I have a Taylor Made Tour Burner and a Superquad, both 10.5 degrees and both Taylormade stiff shafts. My swing speed is about 93mph so I get about 230-240 yards carry and what ever roll the course allows. I have spoken to the pro about getting up to about 260 carry with increasing my swing speed and he tells me it would take a major commitment to the gym to achieve ( and I am fit and healthy, correct weight and do manual work) So the next stage for me to gain extra yards is shaft and ball fitting, the pro tells me this could equate to 15yards. I plan on getting fitted next week and will report back.
  15. I love all the pockets , tee holders and ball holder on my Ogio Grom. But it is too heavy.
  16. Went up my local club today and played with the retired guys most of whom are 15-20 years older than me, but they let me join their pool. I shot 38 points (gross 78) and took £20 off them and felt guilty!
  17. I also don't use the 3 wood from the fairway very often, but use it on some short par fours where front bunkers come into play with the driver. So the question is can you use it more of the tee on some holes where the driver isn't really needed.
  18. Good clips and nice bunker play. You ask for tips on getting the ball to stop with your wedges. Number 1 is the ball, you need to use a soft ball for it to grip the face of the wedge. 2. Make sure you have clean grooves. 3 You will stand more chance of spin when you are playing an approach from around 50yards and further out, short chips will be harder to spin. 4. Try the ball in the rear of your stance and really hit down into the ball (divot after ball) Hope this helps.
