  1. One thing to look out for is the lofts of the wedges in your set... I've got Wilsons and even with a GW I've got a 7 degree gap in my bag.... (49 to 56 and yes pun intended ) My yardages seem ok but....
  2. Have you considered a 4 wood? Little easier to hit than a 3 but should still be longer than most hybrids... Be aware that low lofted Hybrids are not that easy to hit either so depending on why you want to change it might not be the best idea any way. All that being said I have just got a "2i" Cleveland Hibore XLS IIRC its 19 degrees and hit it a long way relative to the rest of my bag (driver excluded).. Might be a goer.. Best of luck, Dek
  3. Hey all, Sorry if this seems like a silly question but after reading a bit about club fitting I don't know if anything much can be changed with my irons! As per my sig I play Wilson Staff Di7 with graphite shafts. From what I've read the shaft its self is a proprietry (sp?) design. Can I gain anything from being fitted (other than get "BLAH" next time!)? One more thing when I hit it heavy generally speaking the heal of the club digs in and not the toe... Does this mean I need to go more upright? Can this be changed with a cast head? Cheers, Dek
  4. Was really into cars in my younger days... I had an: Rx4 13B Extend Port Rx3 13B Turbo with 280RWKW on 16psi Ran a 11.3@120mph on 10psi Rx7 12a Stock I suppose that explains my nick. Currently an 09 A4 and 05 Rav4 which is mainly used to transport me and the boys to golf! My currently speed fix is met by an 05 CBR1000RR.... Of all the motor vehicles I have owned or been in/on this one scares the crap out of me the most... 160rwhp (half system and PC3) and about 260kgs with me on it.... Oh and a contact patch with the ground about the size of your palm.... All in good fun
  5. Chances are you will look back at you life now and say the same thing in 10 years! My advice... Plan for the future but live in the moment! oh and have fun. Slightly OT - Studies have shown that the older you get the faster your perception of time becomes, basically because each year is a smaller and smaller part of your overal lifetime. So yeah things do seem to get faster when looking back the older you get... All I try to do if hang on and have fun
  6. We normally play $1 a hole and choose a Par 5 for longest drive and Par 3 for nearest the pin. Nice round $20... Tied Holes carry over and if the 18th is tied off to the putting green! We also have one more rule... Man with the most money buys the first round.... So even if you lose $20 you still get a beer!
  7. I must be dense or I'm seriously missing something here...... How does hitting a "happy gilmore" ruin golf and disrespect the game? As long as you don't do the following I can't see an issue with it. Damage the course Put others in unresonable danger or make loud noises so as to disturb others If you aren't supposed to do it then it would be in the rules! Think about it... If I wanted to putt the ball with my club like a pool cue I can't as its against the rules. I haven't read anywhere that this shot type is illegal... You only have to look at past and present PGA players to know there are hundreds of ways to swing a club.... Hell Jim F's swing makes my eyes hurt and he won the last week! Don't get me wrong... Do I think its a good idea? No Would I do it? No Am I going to tell you not to do it? Hell no... Well maybe if you start whinging about spraying it all over the park but other wise... So how exactly does doing a happy gilmore ruin and disrespect golf again?
  8. I disagree that high handicapers should stay away.. I play off 28 and love my 60. I find it no harder to hit than my other shot irons... Consistency (at my level any way) is about the same as the rest of my bag and it gives you a few more options.. My 2 cents!
  9. I still like to think that anybody could become a golf pro but not everyone can... Ultimately talent, practice, opportunity and luck means not everyone will get there..... I have also read to be world class at anything you need to practice 10000 hours... That is the time it takes to be that good at something. Be it golf or anything else
  10. My sig has the specific details but I love my wedges especially. Good spin and great feel and touch. As for the driver, well I hadn't really made the connection till I really thought about it. Originally bought it as it was on sale and got some good reviews! I will certainly consider the irons when its time to upgrade but that won't be for a while yet...
  11. Hi All, I'm going on a weeks holiday and only have room to bring a half set (in a small pencil style case). So my question is which clubs? I chose my driver 3h 5i 7i 9i 56dg & putter I would normally replace the driver with a 3w and then maybe drop the hybrid for another wedge or short iron but its only new and I am still getting the hang of it. Your thoughts?
  12. Check my sig out for my suggestions!
  13. I haven't played the Trispeed but I'm a big fan of the AD333. Got a couple floating around in my bag at the moment....
  14. My coach gave me a neat drill that has improved my distance control quite a bit... Stand about 4 meters on to a green (or however far is causing you issues) , face the edge and drop 3 balls.. The aim of the drill is to hit the first one to within 1m of the edge... 2nd ball between the first and the edge and 3rd between the 2nd and the edge... Once you can do it consistently move back a meter... rinse and repeat.. The other peice of advice (which is more for squaing the putter head) but seems to help is 25-75 swing... 25% distance back and 75% forward.... Just remember to keep smooth
  15. I use a pull cart for 18 and carry for 9. Although I am considering starting to carry the full 18.... Depends on how hot it gets over summer.... Its been 30c+ already for about a week so it doesn't look good.. Oh and even though it sounds like you've chosen to walk if you needed another incentive I have lost 12kgs in 12 months since taking up the game again. No other changes that I can think of..
  16. Ive hit the mizuno at a demo day and it was stunning.... Very easy to hit and was long and straight... unfortunately the wallet didnt agree at the time. I currently play a Hibore XLS and its 95% of the club for 50% of the cost (at the time I was buying anyway) Not sure if its related to the launcher though Basically cant lose
  17. Hey, I was in a pretty similar position (except been playing a bit longer) about 6 months ago and started to get lessons... Couple of observations thus far (after about 8 lessons) Your game WILL get worse As your game improves your score may not drop as much as you think it will (hoping it starts to come down soon!) Get a good teacher that you trust and stop listening to any other advice or tips Know what you want to get out of it and talk to your coach Stick with it Honestly, my HC has gone up by 1-2 points but I am more consistent and am now just waiting for the key round where it all really comes together.... Best of luck
  18. Another South Paw here who plays golf (and other "hitting" sports) Right Handed... Except Tennis where I usually play two forehands! The only trouble I had was not letting my left hand release properly... It really wanted to stay on top as I swung through.... I also am not the longest hitter of the ball... but that has as much to do with my lack of ability than anything else! My coach is also a lefty playing righty and when I asked him about it he said it shouldn't make any difference in the long run.... Cheers.
  19. I'm in a similar situation to yourself (skill level, existing clubs etc) and have considered a few different options... In the end I tossed the 4 iron and put in a 3 hybrid... I'd also look at the other end of the bad and consider a 56 degree wedge assuming the sand wedge is only 52 or so...
  20. Have you considered Wilson staff Di7 or the just released Di9? I have just bought a set (Di7) after read some good reviews and am awaiting delivery. They are going pretty cheap on Ebay due to the new Di9 being released I assume.. Cheers, Dek
  21. I tend to try and look at the same spot on the ground about half way between my left heel and my centre line... So depending on the club it depends if I focus on the ball or a blade of grass, twig etc... Driver - face a logo to the club face and focus on that.... Hy/Long Irons - about 1 cm in front on the ball Short irons - about a ball length in front I always try and focus on something small but noticable rather than a general area..
