@mvmac thank you for taking the time to break it down for me to clear up some of my confusion with the swing. Knowing that my hands do no come OTT helps but I would like to remove any unnecessary compensation if possible. Regarding the grip, I guess I've been mostly focused on the left hand snuff box but I will make sure to check both hands going forward - old habits... I will work on doing the right arm more. Also, I will try to feel keeping the left wrist flat. I played with it earlier and it felt really good. Almost like my swing takes a short cut but I still have time to create speed.

Mirror work and half speed dry swings. -
Here's a swing from yesterday's range session. I still don't fully own the swing changes yet but I think it's getting better. Although looking at this swing reminds me how I've never liked how the club gets flat on the backswing and then I have that steep ott move in the transition. Somehow I get it where it needs to be near a6 but I always wonder if that manipulation contributes to inconsistency? At what point (if ever) do I try to improve the backswing/transition? Rarely- when I'm playing my very best I just see and do without thinking how. Although, I'm usually working on a certain swing feel but my goal is to groove the feel until I don't have to think about it during a competitive round.

20 minutes dry swings with 5i keeping the right arm in front and flattening the aoa. -
I'm starting to feel more comfortable with keeping the right arm in front, even with the longer irons (4-6) but I've continued to feel I've been too steep with the longer irons. While hitting into my net on Friday I started the down swing feeling like my right knee was moving forward instead of feeling it with the left knee. This seemed to really help and I think I will continue to work with it. I will try to get some video this week to make sure I'm still on the right track. I played yesterday and continue to hit the ball better. I hit only 10 greens but 17 nGIRs (after four rounds I'm saying only 10 - please, 5 weeks ago I was begging to hit 10). I kept the driver in play but didn't hit it very well and my putting speed was really bad. Not really concerned about either but will need to spend a little maintenance time this week.

@KnightSlammer , sorry for the quick post...I believe there are two big hurdles for good baseball hitters to overcome when they transition to golf. The first and easiest is related to the hand position when contact is made. In baseball you make contact before the wrists start to roll over which translates to a very open club face. The second hurdle is that good hitters swing over the plan, i.e. they keep the bat head above their hands during the early/mid part of the swing and do not show the knob until much later (inside, down and through the zone). It might be easier to think of what bad hitters do (pitchers?) - they drop the bat head (show the knob early) and drag the head through the zone - that's a better move for golf. And - do what @saevel25 suggested...

I've heard the Hogan quote before but I have a better appreciation for what it means now. I don't own it yet, but my understanding of good ball striking has changed. I've heard good players say things like this in the past and would kind of brush it off as there must be some hidden qualifier - "yeah, but his thin shots must be like my solid shots" or "how does he miss it in the right place, I have no idea where my miss will be". I now believe it's possible for you to play some "pretty lousy golf" and continue to shoot around par. You've piqued my interest regarding ball striking skills and how it specifically relates to each of the 5 Keys. I think there's a thread about the correlation between the 5 Keys and handicap that I will try to find.

10 minutes mirror work - keeping the right arm in front -
Played today - hit 14 greens and 17 nGIR - I cannot believe how good my ball striking results have been since joining TST and @mvmac identifying my priorities. I don't feel like I'm striping every shot by any means but the start lines and results are amazing. Now that I've experienced what a good ball striking round should look like, I can't believe how bad of a ball striker I am. I feel like that scene from Bull Durham where the manager is ripping into the players for being lolly-gaggers. Near the end of the rant the manager asks what their record is: Pitching coach: 8-16 Manager: 8-16...how did we ever win 8? Pitching coach: it's a miracle Manager: yep...it's a miracle Manager asking what my index is: Pitching coach: about a 3 Manager: a 3...how did he ever get below 10? Pitching coach: it's a miracle Manager: yep, it's a miracle

30 minutes of maintenance pitching in the backyard before my round later today. At first I was making sure the bounce was staying engaged - hit several slightly fat to make sure the bounce was used. After that i hit different shot types (low runner, low checker, a little higher/softer) from different lie's -
I'm no swing expert but you should definitely check out the links/video @mvmac provided. One thing you may want to pay attention to - your past obsession with getting your weight forward may have caused you to move your head (and maybe upper body) forward, which can cause all kinds of problems.

I really appreciate the encouragement that I'm on the right track and the reminder that I need to put in a lot of reps to make real changes.
