LOL.. or the 5 stages of grief... how does it go? something like 1. Denial- I dont REALLY need to change it. Its not thaaat bad. LOL 2. Anger- This sucks! I cant do this crap! GRRRR slices! 3. Bargaining- Threads on SandTrap asking if I can keep the strong grip 4. Depression- This is the stage im currently in. Feeling pretty bummed. 5. Acceptance- Ill let you know when I get here!

Also, the thing of it is, with the new grip I actually have to think about rolling my wrists to release. This is very hard. Before, with the strong right hand, the club head would just go there, naturally. But as you stated before, when I would ACTUALLY release with the strong right hand, I hit a snap hook.

Yeah, I appreciate the advice. As im sure you know, it is the hardest thing to accept getting way worse to get better. Im having a tough time coming to terms with that. I mean, I had JUST gotten really comfortable with everything... hardly EVER slicing my driver anymore, and actually hitting nice baby draws. Now with the new grip ill frickin slice a 9 iron. Dont even get me started on the driver. I was also coming inside to quick on my back swing, which was no problem to fix. Grrrr, I just wish grip change was as easy as swing change.
-
Thats obviously what I figured. Sigh. How do you feel about slowly shifting my grip over time? Like rotating it a couple of degrees every few days or week or so.
-
So then I should try to stick with the new grip in your opinion then?
-
Im confused as to what youre saying here. I have the occasional snap hook right now, which my pro is telling me is because of the strong right hand. Are you saying that if I weaken my right hand I will have the occasional snap hook? Or are you saying, if I keep the strong right hand ill have the occasional snap hook? EDIT: My 5w and 3w have those grips. Ive never known they were grip guides. Haha!

Hi all, Ive got a quick question for you guys. I started playing last May; so almost one year ago. Ive been totally self taught until this point and have gotten my handicap down to a 20. (which reminds me I need to change it on here ) Anyways, Ive started taking lessons with my local pro, and just like I knew it the first thing he's trying to change is my grip. I have a strong right hand (im right handed) so its my lower hand. Im sure you all know, this means my hand is rotated towards my back foot. So, the "V" that is created by my thumb and finger is pointed just to the edge of my right shoulder. He's trying to get me to get my hand more on top of the club, so the "V" is pointed in between my chin and shoulder. Ive got to say, THIS SUCKS! I CANNOT do it. It feels as if ive never held a club before, or im hitting left handed or something. I mean im actually hitting balls of of the fricking hozel sometimes for gods sake! I know they say that if a swing change feels good you arent doing it right; but this seriously feels impossible. (Haha! this is turning out to be not such a quick question. Sorry guys. ) Sooo, my question is this: Exactly how bad is having a strong right hand? I noticed on playing lessons last night that Zach Johnson has a pretty strong right hand, and he's not doing to shabby. Is this something I can get by with, or would you all suggest that I stick it out and deal with it? I honestly dont know if Ill ever be able to feel comfortable with my hand on top of the club so much. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Seems pretty fake to me.

I definitely have you beat. I hit a bunch of balls at golfsmith with one of their drivers and i couldnt get the launch angle above 7 degrees!

Callaway Tour-i. End of story.

I catch some flack from my girlfriend sometimes. My best advice is to make sure your lady is VERY sexually satisfied the night before you are going to play. Not joking here either. Ive noticed that makes things MUCH easier the next morning when you are creeping off to the course. If you are already doing this, and shes still giving you flack, well then, youve got a tough one.
-
duh! i didnt even think of it like that. I guess it would really suck if there were 5 or 6 groups on the course playing super slow.
-
I dont even see what the argument is about here. Who gives a rats ass about slow play as long as the slow people let you through? As has been stated before, its more of a ethics/courtesy argument. I dont think the problem is with people playing slow. You or anyone else in the world can take 10 hours to play a round for all I care, as long as you let me through. I played a round of 9 today, and got behind a two some, and a foursome of older people and I was playing alone. They were skulling it and chunking it all over the place; but both groups let me play through and I got the 9 in in about 1hr 40min. (check my handicap, im not good either ) Did I curse these people up and down? No. Do I think they are ruining golf? No. Did they ruin my round in any way? No. Do they deserve to be out there just as much as you or I do? YES. I think its pointless to debate slow play when thats not even the REAL problem. Its 100% about courtesy and 0% about how fast or slow someone plays this great game we all love.

Thanks for the comments guys! Yeah, as far as the weather, one day me and one of the other guys outta the 8 that went played in seriously 40 degrees and 30 mph wind and rain pissing sideways into our eyes! I got all geared up for the rain, and on the fourth hole I realized I had left the fly on my rain pants down, so my crotch was SOAKED for the last 15 holes. Funny stuff. The day of the pic was pretty good weather... about 50 degrees and 5-10 mph wind. Its funny though, I only shot one stroke better on the good day than the bad. 98 in the crappy weather and 97 on the good day. All in all it was an epic trip. The resort is awesome! The people are way laid back and you basically dont have to leave for anything. I highly recommend going there to all of you. Thanks for the compliments on my swing. The one thing I pride myself on is trying to have a nice balanced finish no matter what. Heres a couple more to make ya drool. Shot of the green of a par 3 while walking up to it.... notice the ball on the green. Same hole, me marveling my tee shot and birdie putt. I missed. Still made par though.

Its the only decent one. Somehow you just forget about pictures out there!

Not usually, but i just got back from Bandon Dunes, and played one day in 40-45 degrees, wind blowing 20-30 mph and raining sideways! My buddy and me where the only two out of 8 of us to go out that day! It was seriously intense! We got to the first tee, and the starter just looks at us and goes... "haha! the psychiatrist will meet you on the 18th green." It turned out to be a blast! Definitely and experience to remember. It was raining so hard, I had three sleeves of balls in my bag, and when we got done, the sleeves had literally disintegrated off of the balls and had turned into paper mush like they had been through a washing machine! I still ended up shooting a 98.

Did your swing ever suddenly desert you?
jojoampt replied to McGolf-Doggie's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Oh dear god yes! I played baseball all the way up through 11th grade, so when I took up golf I had a REALLY bent knee stance when hitting my driver. I could seriously BEAT the ball though (260-280 yards on average) Well, about two months ago I wanted to get away from the bent knees, not because I wasnt hitting it well though... I wanted to change because I just felt like I looked ridiculous! I committed to making the change, and tried and tried and tried. I couldnt hit the ball for crap standing upright. About two weeks ago, I said screw it, im going back to the bent knees! Huge problem! Since I had been trying to stand upright for the last month and a half, now I didnt feel comfortable in my old bent knee stance. So basically, no matter how I stood, I didnt feel comfortable. I was really stressed because I had a trip to Bandon Dunes planned (just got back yesterday) Well, we literally pulled into Bandon Oregon at about 7 oclock and it was almost dark. They have a little public course right as you roll into town, so we stopped to hit a quick bucket before dark. BOOYAH! All of a sudden something just clicked! I was standing straight and BEATING the ball! I drove sooo good the entire three days at Bandon. Whew, just in time! I feel soo confident over the driver now. Ive just been using the swing thought, "compact, compact, sit down on the ball" and it works amazing. Sometimes I think thats all it takes is a good swing thought to have in your head to cure things. THANK GOD! -
Will do! As far as the weather, im ready for anything. I live only about 1 hr south of Oregon on the coast, the weather here is very similar to what they get up there.

Pretty excited. Ive only been playing since last summer, so I havent made it up there yet. Its only a little over three hours from me. My buddy is getting married and my b-day is on April 3rd, so its kind of a joint bachelor party/b-day party trip. We're driving up tomorrow night and on Wednesday playing Pacific Dunes, then on Thursday playing Bandon Dunes. The weather is looking kinda iffy on Wednesday, but OK on Thursday. Im pumped and nervous all at the same time! Haha! Ill update this thread with pics when I get back. Wish me luck!

GolfSmith's Confidence in Sergio

Haha! Ouch! -
Oh, well depending on slope and rating and what not thats pretty close. I just imagined you shooting like 105's and 107's i guess.
-
Yeah, I didnt even go into the age thing, because I just figured if he was asking, it must be legal there to work when you are 14.
-
ABSOLUTELY go in and talk to someone face to face. Dress nice, give the guy a firm handshake, and look him in the eye. Say yes sir (or ma'am) and let them know that youre not afraid of hard work. Be confident! Thats just for starters, but Im telling you, these little things go a long way. Making a first impression is basically all you have when interviewing for a job.

^^ your on a quest to break 100 but you have a 26.4 handicap?
