Recommend Me A Golf Cart Bag
Damien45 replied to dvd436's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have been looking at the Mizuno Omega V and the Bag Boy Revolver . Both have features that I really like. The Bag Boy Revolver system is really cool, and would be useful for either pull cart or ride. The pockets and layout of the Mizuno is more appealing to me....so the choices.... -
Yes, at least it used to happen. Now I listen to a CD I want to hear on the way to the course.

It depends on the lie. If it is firm and/or tight, a lower bounce is preferred. If it is soft/wet, med/high rough, sand, ect. a higher bounce is preferred. I have a 56.14 CG14 that I use for my SW/high rough flops. If I am in a bunker with less sand/firmer lie I use my 60.07. Just know the area you are playing in and have the bounce match.

Hit his ball with yours....it's a stroke penalty to him.

I am playing a course on Friday that I have never played. I went online and took their course tour (scorecard) and made a plan off that. Since I have never played there, I am certain there will be some adjustments. I will let you know how it goes. Since there are a couple courses you play semi regularly, plan them and try it out. Adjustments will be made during the round, but it helps you focus on aim, consistancy and builds confidence. Last week I played a course with a friend. He usually beats me (his ettigue aside we would be fairly matched). I tried my plan for the course and beat him by 2 for the 9 we played.

Similar story.... Years ago, my friend, his dad and I went out to play and was given a single to take along. No worries, it was a younger kid (literally) and I thought that was pretty cool....On the first hole he would not shut up. Right off the bat he wanted to bet. We told him no thanks. His first hole was better than ours and his flowing with insults. My friend's dad basically told him to shut up or play ahead. Still he is talking..... So on the second tee (a par 5), I told my friend I was cutting the dogleg. This kid just went off on me! Laughing, mocking, ect. I turned to him and said how much? We agreed on a buck and I launched my drive. He was under the impression I lost my ball in the desert (in Scottsdale at the time) and laughed. He played to the leg and off we went. After everyone played their shot, we looked for mine so the kid couldn't say I just dropped one. We found mine right on the fringe, just before everyone's second shot. The kid kept talking. I overshot the green by a couple yards with my second shot. Well now the kid is not as talkative, but still trying. Well.....see.....I am a smart@$s. When someone wants to try to get under my skin I generally wait until they start getting a little frustrated at their failure before starting in.....I felt it was a good time to start. Kid ened up shanking his second shot. Turn-about's fair play right? In the end, I made par to his bogey. I took his buck and he decided to play ahead on the next hole.

That is great to hear! Glad everyone helped. Is this a course you play frequently? If it is, and you have: 1) a scorecard handy / Course Layout Book 2) a good idea of your club distance 3) a little time Sit down and start to plan out each hole. Know what your "on the green from" distance is (like 90 or 100 yrds for example). Use your average tee distance, less your (approach if necessary), to figure what clubs to use for each hole. On the long Par 4's go ahead and plan for a bogey. Look at it this way, if you are shooting in the 100's on a Par 72. You want to break 90. If you plan the course prior to going you can do it (72+18=90). The idea behind planning is to make it to the green in regulation (+1 if necessary). I do not count putts in my planning. I assume 2 putts every time. For me, I am attempting to be within a certain distance to 2 putt at most. The Course Layout will help you plan your strengths against the course's weaknesses (dogleggs, elevation changes, wind will be a factor). In the end, you will be able to build confidence as you navigate around the traps while keeping your ball in play!

Finally gaming a gap wedge.....about time I came around
Damien45 replied to Dub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was looking for one of these, but it doesn't come in a 12guage.... lol On topic... I just got my 51* Gap and played one round so far. I LOVE it! It's like getting dressed with the lights on.....sooo much easier! -
I totally agree with everyone, especially GoBlue. The basics are done, now just figure the shaft you need. One thing to consider is to have a couple similar fittings just to see if there is a constant. I have one like yours, but they missed my 1" over. At the Mizuno Demo Day I went to, the rep caught that. When he handed me the 1" over club he told me to ignore the shaft, and club head. I took a couple swings that had consistant results. All 4 shots went to the same place, withing a couple yards. Then he told me to address the ball, but don't swing. He walked around me and just pushed on my back a little bit. I had better balance with the longer club. The whole thing was repeated with the 1/2" over club. Things got erractic because I was off balance and felt it.

Yeah, that's how I count it when I have done that....and thankfully I don't do that as much anymore! lol

Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Damien45 replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I took my cousin to the Demo Day. He could not hit the MP, but MAN could he hit the Clk! That's when I really noticed it. Seems the Mizuno Rep was under the same impression after watching everyone else switch back and forth. -
One of the things that helped me was to know my weakness. Since I know I can hit the green from 120-90 out, I started to figure out what it would take to get to that spot. On a par 4, if it took me 3 to reach the green, so be it. I was making worse than bogey most of the time anyway. As I work on my short game and driver, things will improve some more. Until then I use the clubs that I know I can hit fairly consistantly when I play. Most of the time I hit my tee shot with a 2i if my driver has gone on vacation....which it has done again! I generally figure my "short average" ranges for each club. That actually helps when I am not hitting things perfectly. That last thing I try to do is properly adjust for wind / elevation changes by taking a club that I would reach the back of the green normally when into the wind/up hill, or front when wind is with me/down hill shots. Course management has been what helped me the most,

I did personally. That was after swing the MP52's for a bit first....so, could be just that. I know the clubs I have now are lighter than the 200s. Did you give the 52's a swing? I know you have an opinion about the Hybrids, but take a look at the MP Fli Hi's. I wrote a review about my Fli Hi 2.

Honestly, it skews your stats and misrepresents your progress. You are only "cheating yourself" so it's not a big issue. Just a personal thing. It's like having a good shot skip out of a fairway/greenside bunker only to get kicked back in because of a rake....not your fault, but still hitting from the sand. Nope, that's as I understand it too.....unless we're both wrong..... lol

During my short game lesson my instructor showed me the difference between the swings of bunker vs. pitch. Basically if you are doing a 30yrd pitch it is less than your full swing. In the bunker, it is almost like gluing your right elbow to your hip so your club comes to parrellel to your body and stays close at the same time. Then, as you swing through, your left elbow becomes "glued" to your left hip and the club ends up in the same position on the opposite side. It sounds very weird, but if you took your stance, put your right elbow to your side while holding your club (head up), grip it with your left hand and see how your body feels in that position. Then just like looking in a mirror, reverse it (left elbow to hip, right arm across) without swinging. This should help you feel the start/finish. The rest is the swing. It helps me to think "Up sharp" on my backswing (meaning club close and parrallel to me) and through. Hope that helps....

Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Damien45 replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Oddly enough, it's like that with the Fli Hi's. If you can't hit the CLK, you can hit the MP, and vice-versa. I really like that. -
Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Damien45 replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Actually I believe that they can be. I know that was an option when I ordered mine. Since they are forged, they are soft and can be adjusted. Give your local Mizuno Dealer a call. -
Welcome Des! Sounds like you have a good goal to work towards. What's in your golf bag?
-
The beauty of Mizuno is that you can customize your set. If you have some diffuclty hitting the long irons, you can use the MX200 or MP52. If you hit your scoring irons really well, you can use the MP67. I think your on the right track with the 57s. Just take a look at the 52s also.

Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Damien45 replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you hit the 3 200 carry, I would imagine you get at least 210 carry with the 2. If that doesn't match your 5w, look into adjusting the loft. That would give you some distance. I get great ball flight out of the 2. One of the things that sold me on these clubs is the shaft options. When I was at the demo day, I hit every shaft they had. The DG SL's have BEAUTIFUL ball flight! The down side for me was the swing weight was really low in comparison. With my swing, me and the rep agreed the sturdiness of the DG was better. I would suggest going to a demo day and hitting the 2, and some of the shaft options. Granted, you might be hitting the 6i for the different shafts. -
Mizuno MP Fli Hi Hybrid Iron - Any feedback
Damien45 replied to Island Par's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So, I just bought the MP Fli Hi Hybrid in a 2. I had the oportunity to play 9 holes with it this week. Here is my initial impression: AMAZING! This club replaced my Cobra Baffler DWS. I can hit the Cobra most of the time. The problem I had with it (and most hybrids) was forgetting to swing it like an iron. When I would swing it like a wood, I got unpredictable results. The Mizuno MP looks like an iron at address. It is dead on accurrate! I used it for every tee shot on Par 4/5. I hit it from every kind of lie, I could find. I tried to draw it on a doglegg by changing my grip. Since it's a hybrid, it went straight (I closed the face on another shot and got the draw I wanted) into the rough with an uphill lie. Since it's a Mizuno, the feel of hitting it pure is unbeattable! The swing weight was smooth, fluid, and addicting! My old hybrids where a little heavy in comparison (which may have added to the swing it like a wood tendency). In conclusion, if you love the hybrids, but tend to swing it like a wood....take a look at the MP Fli Hi. Since it is Mizuno, you can adjust everything; lie, loft, length.... Now I can't wait to get my 3 and 4.... -
Another way that some courses do things is with "Pin Placement Numbers". On the scorecard or in the cart it will be listed how the green is split up and it's corresponding number (1, 2, or 3) for each hole. Then in the club house, or at the starter, the day's pin placement will be listed "Today's Pin is 2". That is usually done when the course uses the same flag color or the Odd/Even scheme.
-
It is course dependant. At my home course there are Green on one course and Black on the other. Both have white, checkered (black or green), and then solid black/green. The white is pin location is front green, checkered is middle, and solid black/green is back. You just have to ask the course before the round to make sure.

I went on a Wedge Hunt a couple months ago. I ended up with Cleveland CG14s. I have since traded my Gap and Lob for Mizuno MP-T Series Pitch (46) and Gap (51). The reason for the change for me was the C Grind Sole, soft responsive feel (forged), and the accuracy I get with them. I tried the Vokey wedges before deciding on the Mizunos. I got great spin with both! For me, compared to the Cleveland, the spin was better. I did keep my 56 degree CG14 because it is AWESOME out of the bunker! Granted, I still make that old swing (which was the wrong one! lol)...but that's not the club's fault. In the end, it came down to personal preferrence. Since you are on an island and suffer limited shops, check for a demo day and spend time with the wedges.
