RockBottomGolf - reviews trustworthy?
Futuresport replied to Fat Slice's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
yeah I second lostgolfballs.com...amazing deals. I love rockbottom for the cheap tees, clubs, gloves, and towels. use them a lot, but never for the balls before. -
happy with it here. I'm not a long ball hitter with it (though I can really crank my irons), avg about 265. I'll usually get a couple out there pushing 300 on a good day. the sound is horrible when you mis hit it, but its awesome when you really catch one the way you want. I love playing with my buddies cause they'll laugh at how loud it is...but then 9 holes later when I'm 6 strokes up on them, I think the sound starts to get at them hahaha you keep cranking them out there and the big sound just echoes across the course.

ok I'm definitely a happy buyer now. I may have had more to correct than some, which is why this thing is so beneficial to me. either way, played two more rounds after work and was blown away by the accuracy and consistency of my iron play. 13/18 greens is about average over those past two rounds. hit the flagstick from about 160 out with my 9 iron, something I've never done. if I'm hitting 6 iron or less, I'm almost guaranteed a GIR. still struggling with the driver and 3 wood though. shortening my swing hasn't seemed to solve any problems with those clubs. I've gotta say, I hit the range about 4-5 times a week though, so the results came fast. certainly isn't the magic bullet, but I appreciate the thread iacas, feel like I just opened up a whole bunch of new doors in a matter of 2 weeks.

played a competitive round (losing team bought lunch :P ) after only using the extender a few times the day before on the range. first 9 holes I was on fire. the few drives that were off line were only draws and fades, nothing unplayable at all. my iron play was insanely consistent, put a string of holes together where I was within 15 ft on each approach shot with some serious gusts of wind. I'm not sure if I can atrribute extra distance to the extender as I'm doing some other things when I'm at the range these days...but I walloped a 5 iron beyond 210 yards uphill with strong right to left wind. totally took me by surprise as it was the shot I wanted, except a good 30 yards too long. unfortunately I started to break down on the back 9. might have been the 110 degree heat, but I started to get back to old habits. I didn't totally implode, still had some great holes, but it wasn't quite as solid as the front. I think a full week on the range + swing ext I'll be pretty happy, we'll see.

http://www.thefoothillsgc.com/eaglsi...=189&page;=3577 not a super difficult course, but I find myself missing it when I skip playing it for a week very enjoyable layout with lots of variability on the par 4s and 5s

Do you hover or ground your putter?
Futuresport replied to kfowler's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think as long as you don't get lazy... I tend to 'rest' my clubs on the ground rather than hover. but I visualize it more as I'm placing or putting the club behind the ball. I think the trick is finding which set up keeps tension out of your swing/putting stroke without sacrificing steadiness. this is where swinging a weighted club (when warming up or during your practice sessions) can build that rock solid steady hand for you. I have a weighted putter thats turned my putting stroke into a very steady swing I can rely on. I have a buddy who rests his putter head/club head, and then right before his stroke, picks it up and hovers it for a second before pulling back. I think he's nuts, but he can rely on it you also don't want to move the ball when its in the rough by resting your club head right behind it -
exactly. I've played a lot of people who like to shorten up their swing and hit something similar to a knockdown. yeah sure its great for a lot of situations, but make sure you can still hit the high shots when the course calls for it. plus as you play more, you'll start to figure out how to tweak things in your swing and in your grip to add distance to shots when needed. 9 iron at 150 yards isn't too difficult if you play it a certain way...an 8 iron from 180 is as we all watched a couple weeks ago haha

I keep it real simple. too much thinking about something thats supposed to be all about 'feel' can kill me. find a real wavy practice green full of extreme breaks, it has helped me tremendously. 1.it will give you confidence enough to trust the break will lead your ball to the hole 2.makes the greens on the course seem easy as you won't be seeing extreme breaks on most holes (usually). and when you do see crazy breaks, you'll know how to play them as for a mental approach...anyone will tell you, you have to walk up to the putt knowing you're going to make it. don't get caught trying to be careful with your putts.

that bad eh?

I appreciate the feedback guys. I just posted some bare bones clips in this thread http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28312 I've finally started getting serious about searching out a local teaching pro
-
Below if you click on the pictures they will act as links to the clips. Looking for feedback as always. I know I'm not hitting balls, I think there's enough wrong with my swing to be picked out right off the bat anyway -Strongest part of my game is putting, 5 iron down to wedges. 3 and 4 irons I'd say 50/50 on consistency while on the course. -75%-90% consistency with my 3 wood off the tee or off the fairway -I can fade the ball when I want, drawing it requires a bit more focus but I can do it from 6 iron down to the wedges -my natural shot is a fade/slice. I'm struggling mightily with consistency, and yes I'm already looking around for some teaching pros in my area.

How do you hit an intentional fade?
Futuresport replied to tmf9's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
line my left hand thumb straight down the top of the shaft (weak grip), and then on my backswing I open up the club face rather than keeping it square. I don't do anything fancy with my feet or downswing. I might finish with my arms a little higher in the air on the follow through. just aim a bit more left and trust the swing. I think visualization before you make the shot, and while you're standing over the ball is crucial. seeing the club travel the path you want and causing the ball to spin off the face for the fade. -
I know I need to upload a vid or pic...but go with me here for a second. When I tee it up with my driver, I'll stand a good distance away from the ball with my arms outstretched more so than when hitting my fairway woods and irons. Not outstretched to the point of being visually ridiculous, but I can feel it. When I line up, the toe of the face of my driver is just barely behind the ball, while the sweetspot is not lined up directly behind the ball. So naturally when I'm all lined up, I look slightly like I'm reaching for a ball thats just a tad too far away. I do this because I noticed during my downswing my arms are naturally extending outward quite a bit, and if I don't stand far enough away from the ball, I'll end up hitting it off the heel of the driver. -The wilson spine is a little bit longer than average, but I wouldn't think this is the primary issue. -I don't use this extension of my arms when I'm hitting my 3 wood or any of my irons -I tend to slice the ball if I mis-hit it on all of my clubs -I'm using an neutral/stronger grip, not a weak one -I'm not trying to kill the ball, in fact I find myself swinging harder with a 4 or 3 iron than my driver. Wanted to throw this out there and see what kind of ideas came back. I do plan to put a vid of my swing up soon, I'm just lazy about uploading the ones I already have.

yeah I love my fybrid 3 wood to death. if the driver isn't working off the tee, I know I can rely on my 3 wood to get me through the round. very easy to hit out of crappy lies too.

I cannot play well in tournaments!!
Futuresport replied to pshizz's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
well I'm no guru and I haven't played in any serious tournaments, but a long time ago I used to start focusing on not losing my new sleeves of balls off the tee and I got into a rut. I'd buy a new sleeve, get all excited to play with them and find myself focusing on not losing them. even when I realized I was having these unproductive thoughts and that I needed to stop them, subconciously when I teed up a brand new ball it still affected me. so one day I grabbed abunch of old crap balls and took the attitude that I didn't a *&^%. I played great for weeks without even trying. anyway, moral of this story is that it might help if you find a way to change your perspective entirely. obviously golf is 99% mental and you don't want to necessarily trick yourself into playing good golf, but you can certainly change your mental approach.
