Wedges... So many lofts, so many bounces...
MSB256 replied to MSB256's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That's covered in another thread, but to save you time, wait till you post a few times and then under user cp look for edit signature... to add logos click "more" under the smilies. I think I'm going to check into the clevelands and the vokeys. I do not like the cg14 though with that little yellow rubber looking triangle. But I will try the CG12. -
Need advice on a good carry bag.
MSB256 replied to Stacey_E's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
This is the Nike Sasquatch Tour Stand bag they are referring to... http://www.tgw.com/customer/category...TEGORY_ID=8196 and it's the one I use! I will admit, it's a pretty good bag... Hard to beat. Dividers, pockets, etc... although I have heard good things about Sunmountain -
Just ordered the TM Tour Burner TP w/ Diamana White X
MSB256 replied to TomDonS's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have hit the tour burner TP. I think it's great. I just bought the 09 burner but I need a square set-up... not the slightly open TP version. I've always been a nike guy so when I went to demo days this past weekend I had my mind set on a Nike Dymo. I bought a burner. They just don't even compare in my opinion. Ball flight, sound, distance, all that is in favor of the burner. I like the tour burner and the 09 burner. Love the black finish too. The burner is my favorite driver, ever. Slightly ahead of my old 975j. haha -
I'm getting ready to sell my Nike SV tour wedges in hopes that I can buy one Vokey wedge for the money. I have been using a 56/14 and 60/10. With so many different lofts and bounces out there, how do you figure out what works for you? I know that course conditions, your swing, etc... can affect what bounce is good, but what about loft? I mean I could get a 54 or 56 degree sandwedge. How much difference will 2 degrees make? One might argue for the 54 and say open it up a tad to get 56. 50 or 52? It seems like the typical set is 52, 56, 60. How about a 54 and 58 to cover all that? I'm telling you, this golf stuff is too expensive for trial and error!!! So what is your wedge set-up and why?

Srixon Z star X & TM TP Red vs. Pro V1x
MSB256 replied to TomDonS's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
ha, I'm with clambake on this one. Except like I said, I'll just let my fiance pick one... that way I know it's a random selection. At least with the V1 and V1x you know what you're getting. For feel you want the v1 for distance you want the v1x, right? Why can't taylormade make it that simple to figure out? I know it's old news but since the guy who designed the V1 and V1x moved over to taylormade, wouldn't you expect those balls to be just as good? -
Srixon Z star X & TM TP Red vs. Pro V1x

ok, so if I want spin around the green, I want the red? Man this is just confusing... I'm just gonna tell my fiance to pick one so I know it'll just be a random pick. haha -
Srixon Z star X & TM TP Red vs. Pro V1x
MSB256 replied to TomDonS's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
well I was going off this artical... http://thesandtrap.com/balls/taylorm...ck_ball_review but I see that they may have switched them since them as that article is pretty old. My bad if I was wrong, should have checked the date. So take the TP black for example. Does "for low spin players" mean this ball is for those of you who need more spin - this ball produces more spin? Or is it a low spin ball for people who don't play spin on the ball and are more interested in distance? I'm all confused now... -
Srixon Z star X & TM TP Red vs. Pro V1x
MSB256 replied to TomDonS's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Well see, what had happened was... I'm wrong about the numbers... the pro v1 has black numbers and the pro v1x has red... the tp red has red numbers and the tp black has black numbers... but still, it's pro v1 = tm red and pro v1x = black -
Srixon Z star X & TM TP Red vs. Pro V1x
MSB256 replied to TomDonS's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Actually the TP red is the equivalent of the V1 and the TP black is the equivalent of the V1x. "Both the TP Red and the TP Black - which are designed to compete with the Pro V1 and the Pro V1x respectively - are built around a core made of a proprietary rubber compound called NdV4." -From this review http://thesandtrap.com/balls/taylorm...ck_ball_review One way you can remember is that both the V1 and the TP red have red numbers while the V1x and the TP black both have black numbers. As for play goes, I can't tell ya. I usually go for the middle of the road titleist nxt but just bought a box of TM burner balls. I'm no pro, so for right now I can't see dropping 40+ dollars on a box of balls. I mean two boxes of those balls plus tax and I'm almost at that new wedge I want!!!! -
To honest, I picked an answer before knowing the details. I said yes, simply because I was planning on buying a new wedge soon and was unaware of any changes. So, someone please fill me in? What's changing and if I buy a wedge now, will it be illegal next year or nonconforming? Not that I'm a pro, just saying.

First of all, I kind of agree with that. And you can't compare it to irons. You can't whip your wrench out on the course and adjust your irons to how you're playing that day. I also said pretty much the same thing to the TM and NIKE guys at demo days... once I get it set to how I like it, I'm not going to change it. So why not save money and get the right setup that doesn't change. Unless you're going to cheat on the course and change it as you go. But between the DYMO and R9, I liked the R9 way better. I don't get all this negativity towards Taylormade. I switched from Nike to TM. Burner was way better than the DYMO. Maybe Nike is just that bad that I felt like taylormade was so awesome when I switched, but I love the burner. To each his own.

Demo Days was here this weekend so I thought I would share my thoughts. As you can tell by my signature line, I've always been a Nike guy... that goes for any sport. I had thought about buying a Dymo before Demo Days but I was talked into being patient and waiting. Well, Nike had an unfair advantage. I had my mind made up I was going to hit some other drivers, but I was getting a Dymo... and I bought a burner! The ball flight on the Nike was way too high. Same degree driver head, both with a stiff flex shaft, there was no comparison. The Burner produced a penetrating ball flight with plenty of carry and a low enough trajectory to produce some roll. The face of the burner is super hot, Dymo not so much. I can swing effortlessly with the burner and get it out there. Now if I can just figure out how to swing at 90% without putting it on the parkway. About the Dymo Str8fit. I understand the concept of adjustability. But I disagree with the thought of "I'm having a bad day hitting slices, let me whip out my wrench and close the face 3 degrees on the next whole." To me, that's cheating. I know were not on tour, but it's simply against the rules. I couldn't take 8 steps in my mens basketball league and get away with it, why bend the rules if you're a competitive person. I also didn't want a driver that I would tinker with all the time to fix my shot. I want my swing to fix my shot. So even if I did get a Dymo, it would be a normal, non-adjustable one. Partly the same reason I didn't give the R9 much thought. I wanted a neutral, standard driver. The taylormade '09 burner was way hotter than the Dymo, had a nice sound, great trajectory. You just can't beat it. And honestly, if you are the type that wants adjustable, get the R9. That's a nice driver. I hit that as well. I'm really not being biased either. You can look at my signature line and tell that. I've just been schooled. Just goes to show you shouldn't be biased with a certain brand. Check them all out. Although I will now look into taylormade irons. haha. I've heard good things about taylormade but this is my first TM club. Man that got long!

Barry, Will have to say a little prayer for you my man. My dad had fusion done in his lower back and recently had the 2 screws moved up higher. So I've seen someone with what you're dealing with. He completed of numbness in his leg right before the second fusion. As far as shoes, I think New Balance are great shoes. I did work at our NB store, but I still buy them even after not working there anymore. They are just good shoes, plain and simple. Honestly I like my Nike golf shoes but it's really for appearance more than comfort. Hope you feel better.

I just did the 1,2,3 count while pretending to swing at my desk... haha, I think I'll try that. Thanks for the tips. And I'll go off your advice instead of shelling out $400!

Thanks for the help guys. I imagine I'll figure it out eventually. I'm going to demo days tomorrow to get fitted for a new driver. Maybe the launch monitor will give me some insight. We have always heard... "Don't swing so hard, let the club do the work." But I see guys on TV and it looks like they swing the crap out of the club. I like the thought of swinging at 70% until my muscles are trained with that motion, then maybe I'll increase speed without really noticing. That seems like a good logic. Thanks again.
-
So tempo really doesn't have much to do with the backswing... at least as far as your backswing speed matching your swing to the ball. It's really about your hips, and legs, and everything working together?
-
I just got back from the driving range. I was trying to figure out the tempo that works for me with driving the ball. We probably hear it all the time... tempo tempo tempo. But what exactly does that mean? To hit a good, decent drive in the fairway I feel like I swing at about 70%. Sure, that gets me in the fairway, but it's embarrassing when others can hit a hybrid 5 that far. As a former baseball player, I can probably swing the driver pretty hard, but it's harder to control the drive. I realize this is a common occurrence. Sometimes I can hit it about 280 or so and still keep it straight. But I'm getting off topic. What exactly does tempo mean? Does that mean that the speed at which I take the club back should be almost as fast as I take it forward to the ball? Do I have to whip it back fast to swing it fast? Or not necessarily? Can my back swing be slow, but then accelerate to the ball? Or does tempo just mean be fluid and in control? I'm confused.

Thanks for the advice... I'll probably order online tonight.

you could possibly try new balance for extra wide shoes... I like new balance for running, use to work at a new balance store. Some people don't know they make golf shoes but I'm pretty sure they have.

I have this Red X putter... http://www.pricebustergolf.co.uk/ima...in/SC_RedX.jpg Can anyone tell me how to polish it up? I'm not worried about irons, I expect those to become worn, but I don't want to set-up over a putt and think about how tarnished my putter is becoming. Any advice on polishing the top/back of this putter? I've seen oil rags on scottycameron.com but not familiar with them. Thanks for any help.

I bought these from a store for over $100... probably more like $120 but I can't remember... http://www.golfshoesplus.com/images/...001-PL-1_l.jpg Then recently bought these on ebay for $74.95 with free shipping and it only took a few days. http://www.golfreview.com/Channels/G...uct_370349.jpg Definitely check ebay first... I'll probably buy all of my golf shoes there from now on... budgetgolfer is the seller I bought my SP-8s from. No affiliation but I appreciate good customer service.
-
That's probably a preference thing. Footjoy might be the number one shoe in golf for a reason... either performance or good marketing, I am a Nike guy though. I have last year's SP-8.5 in all black and the SP-8 in all white. I love the older SP-8 in the solid white and solid black and you can find them on ebay for fairly cheap. $74.99 is a great deal, considering I paid over $100 for the SP-8.5. Here is the SP-8 in all white and all black. Sharp shoe. Wouldn't mind having the black ones as well. http://www.golfreview.com/Channels/G...uct_370349.jpg

I agree, irons are a part of your set that will get some wear and tear regardless... take care of them, but don't be obsessive. With that being said, my putter is a different story. Don't get smart on me and say I must be doing something wrong if I'm putting dings on my putter, that's not what I mean... but it is becoming a little tarnished in a few places. Is there anyway to polish it up without messing up the finish? It's a red x by the way.
-
Hey guys, I have a red x putter as well. It doesn't have "dings" so to speak but has a few tarnished spots. Any of you know how to polish it up and make it look new again? I don't want to sell it, I'm keeping it. Just need to start taking better care of it. I saw oil rags on ScottyCameron.com but have no experience so I don't know if that will work. Thanks
