  1. Personally I really like the Aldila shafts...I have it in my irons and in my hybrid. I want looking to install it on my driver and ended getting a whole new driver (in sig). I think for the price that you can get one installed today, it's an incredible price for what you get. Regarding the cutting...I would tip it, as this will make the shaft "stiffer" The one thing that didn't settle with the numbers you posted is that with such a low launch angle and low spin, you are only getting 10-15 yards roll. With your launch angle I would have thought you would get 30 easy. Either that or the carry number is not correct......????
  2. so which of the two do you prefer...DWS or TWS...I'm the market for another hybrid 4 23*...
  3. Yup...the originally posted were the real Ozik....I found the "Made for" specs as well.....they are in my edited comment above.
  4. Assuming you have a TM driver with MWT, it is worth noting that you can also buy different weight sets so that you don't have to go with the 16 at the heel..you can try say T: 2, B: 4, H: 10...
  5. My setup works nicely for me...45* 50* 56* 60* I have can cover 120 - 110 - 85 - 70 yards respectively which allows me to play with distances by choking or going full swings. What I like is that I don't have to go full swings most of the time...I have found that my SW and LW I seldom go with FS. Similarly with my from 9 through GW I tend to club up and take a bit off the swing. I did get very different lofts on my Wedges, they are 6* 7* 10* 4* respectively. I went low on the LW seeking the ability to open the face easier, but it took a very long time to get used to the bounce I used to skull 60 to 70% of shots, now is closer to 15% or so. I am still thinking about changing my LW for a 60-07 so it can match the rest of the bounces better...but I have not been able to justify the expense to myself yet.
  6. I can't really compare to other clubs, as I have only tested them in bays, never on the course....with that said, I love my AP1's. I got a great deal from a relative...$200 for a 6mo old set ('08), with the graphite shafts. I have been playing since Jan last year, and when I got started, some of the Pros that I talked to in Golf galaxy told me to sell them that they were too much club for me....I didn't buy the reason, and kept them. I'm glad I did! I think these are great for any "serious" player. By that I mean, being serious about playing and improving. I am currently a 30.5 HC, but I have been as low as 26 last year when I was playing 2 to 3 x a month, now is more like 1 a month if I'm lucky! These clubs are very forgiving and certainly allow for playability...you may not get the same response as MB but I don't think you will get that from any CB iron. These are great clubs, If you want to play with something that will be with you for a while, as I suspect my AP1's will at least accompany me until I drop to low teens of single digit HC.
  7. True...but the most of us change our swing over time....for better or worst, and having the ability to adjust my clubs how I'm playing, without having to pay an arm and a a leg, is a huge upside for the amature and pro alike.
  8. Wow Huge gap!!!!!! It really depends on where you play...the conditions of the ground and the compactness of the sand....with that said I would go with a 58* or 60* LW with some thing in the middle like an 07* bounce. Seems like you like big bounce...so you may not like 60-04 or something like that....
  9. Sorry ...this was not intended to be a poke at you....Often golfer compare themselves to pros, and get upset when they don't have the game or skill, yet expect excellent outcomes......that's why I said that...
  10. No, but I don't see the OP going pro anytime soon.....15HC!!!
  11. OK...so you are not trying to correct something specifically....then is all fair game. Try it out you can't go wrong, but here is some food for thought. - The diamana Blue has higher torque 4.4* (the Matrix is between 4.0* (XCon-5) and 2.5* (XCon-6) The lower the number the less tendency for the shaft to twist. - A heavier shaft may rob you of swing speed, so your 95 mph might drop slightly - If I read the tables correctly, the 68 is X I think this shaft may lead to low slices...you may hit a few spot on, but I think your consistency will suffer from it. It will require some serious practice time to get comfortable. But like I said, if it's a great deal go for it...there is only one way to find out!!!!! Just don't get rid of the r7 just yet! Edit: I found these specs online: Features: • Stiff Flex • 60 grams • 3.1 Torque • Low to Mid Trajectory / Mid to High Kick • .350 Tip / Standard Length Driver Shaft
  12. I'mnot sure about this.....I would think, and this is purely based on specualtion, that a whippy club will lend itself to slice, but I really have not looked at it from that angle. The loft will have an effect on ball spin and contol..but shaft kick-point ..I don't really know.
  13. I can't tell any differences....granted mine has adjustable weights on the bottom so I really can't see it while playing...so not issues at address
  14. +1...best concise explanation i've seen so far!
  15. Question...why do you want to change? Is it that you are not getting the distance that you want, or are you spraying all over the place? I would also caution on going to a heavier shaft in stiff given your swing speed...at 95mph you are on the cusp between reg and stiff. On a lighter shaft a stiff may be OK, but a heavier shaft a stiff may not fut you well. I would suggest that you get yourself fitted..... I know is what everyone always says, and most of us seldom do, but when you are trying to take your driving to the next level, making arbitrary decision on what you thinn you want may actually jurt your game more. Get youself on a launch monitor with your current club, and take note of you stats...swing speed, launch angle, ball spin, etc, and then compare to other drivers with similar shafts to the one you are looking at. When I changed to the r7 Limited, I was on the hunt for an Aldila NV 65g Reg to fit my r7 CBG Max, and the sales man told me something that made sence.....when you change shafts arbitrarily you run the risk of not liking the result, because ultimately, you wont know until you hit it. Good luck on your search, and let us know what you ended up with.
  16. I think you are wrong here...Pros have someone that adjust their clubs to meet thier exact needs...I think this is where we mortals can have some of that benefit without the high price of getting a club "adjusted". With that said, I am of the opinion that you should "set it and forget it" (sorry for infomercial plug) .... I don't think one should be tinkering with the adjustments frequenly, and much less while in play. Same here....I have a r7 Limited, which at first I thought about adjusting it to Draw, but found that in neutral I have far more options and realtively straight drives...with a few slices here and there, but I can live with that. Every club has it's own pecularities, and an adjustment to the driver should not necesarily be the same with say an 7i...you have different swing paths, swing speeds, weights...many different factors so I don't think that adjustments to the driver setup affect you iron play. I guess if I were trying to adjust after every tee shot on the course, then I would be fooling myself, but I don't think that there is anything wrong in having a club that you can adjust while palying a " for fun" round....as long as you return to natural settings and keep practicing ...
  17. The Titleist line was due for an upgrade...that dark gray looks wicked, but I don't foresee me spending money on those....but I will certainly be on the lookout for a 909D2 9.5*...an amzing stick, but way out of my price range!!!! As for the irons, I can't say anything for the price I paid....I got my '08 AP1's with the graphite Aldila Proto By-You R-75 shafts (reg) for $200 with about 6 months of use. In full disclosure, I do have to say that these were my first set of "real" golf clubs that I've had (Previous set was RAM). Since I came back to golf, after nearly 16 years away (and I'm 34), I found these AP1's very easy to hit and extremely forgiving. I have been trying to convince myself that there is something better in the market, and I cannot find it! I tried the AP1 710's a few weeks ago, and could not find anything considerably different, other than looks, which the 710 look awesome. The only clubs that I have hit, that I seemed to like equally as much as my AP1's were the Ping G15's....very nice, slightly heavier than the AP1's.
  18. I like Vokey....always have...specially the spin milled. I was leaning towards CG15 lately, but mostly out of curiosity .... I really like the feel and clear options you can get with Vokey's. I am not a fan of ambiguous definitions such as standard that you get in Cleveland...I like numbers!!!! I looked at the Z and didn't like them, While the face looks like it will create some mean spin, the back loos like cheap silver paint.....I have seen clones with better finishes. Like others have said, it's about confidence....Vokey inspires that confidence in me...I know that if I screw up a shot or not meet my goal is not bcs I have crappy wedges..
  19. In the house. A few months ago my driver's head flew off, and the first question from the pro was is I kept my clubs in the car....the heat can damage the glues, grips, gloves, and balls.... I actually always keep it in the house bcs the size of my trunk, but the reason the head flew off was that the driver was a fake.!!! One of tow things....either the theif is a golfer and understands the bond with your stick, or you really have some crappy sticks, either way NICE!!!! Tried that, but the wife would get pissed off when the driver bumped her on the head.....
  20. +1 here....Tri Speed offer the best of all worlds in terms of distance off the tee, spin off the drive, spin off wedges, and green grip. I also have been playing gamers lately and really like them. I seem to get better results off the originals than the V2's, but I t may have been an off day... In the category that you are looking at you basically have these options: Bridgestone e6 Srixon Tri Speed and Tri Speed Tour Titleist NXT and NXT Tour Top Flight Gamers and Gamer's V2 Buy a sleeve of each, you will probably spend $40, and do your own research or spend the same and get your balls fitted
  21. I will tend to disagree depending on how serios about golf you are...lower end will be needing to be replaced ssoner IMHO. Not saying that TF are not good, simply thinking in terms of long run...you may be better off buying something that you may grow into, and spend less money overall. Also, stay away from golfsmith, as their prices for used is only about 10% lower than new. I have found better deals on new sometimes there. Take a look at wilson clubs..it seems to me that even their low end stuff is very good.
  22. My bag has a pocket for tees. I carry in it, tees, of course, the divot tool, and a mini brush tool. When I get to the course, I usually take the divot toll and brush and put them in my pocket, and tees...I take 3 or 4 out put two in my pocket and the other two on the cart. I also try to leave the bag of tees, inside the pocket that way is not much of a mess... The marker I keep in the pocket for scorecards.
  23. Lol ...breaking 90!!!! yikes! I played 135, with my adjusted HC of 30.5, the course HC for me would have been 111, so may that's not tooo bad, but it's the second highest score I have ever posted. The first was 143 the very first time I played. I will need to practice more before I head back.....I started to get into better shape towards the 15th hole, at which time, you can't do anything to save the score!!!
  24. Why trade the AP1 for the AP1 710? what is different on the 710 other than the decals? I like titleis, bu tI tried a pair of G15 the other day, and they are nice!!!!
  25. Played yesterday in a grueling round from 9:45 Am to 3:30 PM....the course was backed up a bit!! This is worth every penny!!! What an incredible course, but man is it challenging!!!! Played of the blue tees, the par 3's were specially tough. On the front9 you spend half the time flying over water. Here are some notable holes ... 1st hole you have to carry 200 yards to make it to dry ground, and then keep it to the right to stay out of water....I took mu own analysis way to far....I seemed to find my way back to the right fringe on every shot!! 3rd Hole is a par 3 182 from the blues, with over the water carry of 145, not a real big deal except that you have about 100 ft of mangrove left and right of tee box...if your shot is anything but straight you will be in the water....I hit a branch on the left hand side that deflect travel; I ended about 60 yards out in the water... 4th hole form Blues you are looking at 618 yard par 5 that requires about 220 yards off the drive straight out, with very little room for error.. mangroves to the right, and water to the left..at around 240, you have a left and right fairway bunkers that demand a very controlled drive. 8th hole a beautiful 145 yard par 3 with about a 20 to 30 ft elevated green, that slopes down back towards the tee box. This is an incredible hole...you are completely surrounded by vegetation...anything outside of the green will roll down, and there is a mean left side bunker with a 3 ft wall to clear. I was able to get my shot to with in 3 ft to the flag Very rewarding hole. 10th hole amazing...slice off the tee and you end up in the water, adjust your second shot a little left, and you end in water... 12th hole this is the most famous hole of the course....its 155 yards over to water just to get to the edge of the green.... I had the distance, was heading straight at the pin...and some how I hooked it at the end (i blame on the wind ), and ended up on the water. 13th, 14th, and 15th are pretty plain by comparison, but worth the challenge. 15th, requires a 145 yard drive to clear mangroves into the open fairway. My first par of the day (par 4) 16th hole has a mean dogleg left, water along the right had side, bunkers to the left of the fairway about 220 out....and terrain ends at about 280. Very nice!!!!! 17th hole 195 yards par 3...incredible, just make sure that you don't stray left or right, as there is not much room for error...any deviation results in lost balls into the mangroves. I hit the distance, with 3h, but was way left...tried to get the the ball...didn't find mine, I say about 8 within reach...then the mosquitoes attacked wow!!!! 18th hole Incredible!!! 485 par 5...reachable in 2 if you are long hitter....careful with the green and green side bunker, as you will have to face some challenging lips to make it out. The green is very long, and tiered the right side of the green will slope towards the bunkers I made it about 50 yards from the green on my second shot...skulled my third into the first sand trap, slapped my way out with my fourth, leaving me with a 45 ft up hill, which a nailed....only to have it slide down to the second green side bunker....on my sixth shot got it out and about 3 footer from the pin, for a short tap....a 7!!!! arg the frustration!!!!! Bottom line, this is a great course, worth every penny!!!! But a few things to consider....Take lots of balls if you have a HC greater than 20. I lost 7, my buddy lost 14...Use a lot of sunblock and make sure is of a high spf if you plan to play during the noon hours...it's brutally hot, and take it with you for re-applies! Take mosquito repellent in which ever format you like because you will need it...and take a big can because you will have to reapply several times.....tee box on 14 was murder!!! I had issues with consistency in putting because i felt some green running fast and others slow a several people agreed back at the 19th! Bottom line it was a great experience, one I hope to repeat, but not before putting some buckets of practice first.
