  1. one thing i have noticed is a problem for most amateur players is the unwillingness to use the putter more from just off the green. Now this is not a good idea if you are in some deep rough right off the edge of the green but from shorter grass where the lie is rather tight is always better than trying to hit your 60. I only tend to use my lob(58) wedge when i have something between me and the whole (ie. bunker, water, tree, hill, etc). I usually use my PW to chip. if i'm on the fringe there is no question i'm grabbing the putter. If you use your putter more often from difficult tight lies you will find that your par putts will become a lot more manageable. Keep one thing in mind when you miss a green in regulation. My next shot needs to be on the green in order to have a putt for par. So, no matter where you miss the green at. Do whatever it takes to get on the green. It's easier to make a putt than it is to chip it in, especially if you are chipping for the 2nd time on that hole. good luck and experiment on the putting green with some different types of shots
  2. wait a minute! Tiger not in form yet. Did you watch sunday at Bayhill? He only posted the low score of the day (67) and erased a 5 shot deficit. I think he is hitting his tee shots more accurate than he has for long time. He is stuggling with a shot here or there, but who doesn't. And seriously, how many players would have made that put on 18. i'm willing to say less than 2% of the top 250. With that said. i'm not betting against Tiger.
  3. honestly! would you ever thing a pros would serious even contemplate using those?
  4. i bought a scotty cameron about 8 years ago from a guy at my local country club. paid $150. I've since cut it down twice to about 31 in (i'm short). And it was the best investment i've ever made.
  5. just like Tiger's 2 shots on 18 today. and how good was he out of the sand on 14 and 17. omg did you see those 2 shots.
  6. 16, 17, 18 aren't the easiest on sunday either
  7. Look at the courses that have played in the last few weeks. Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Poppy Hills, Doral, Bayhill, Riviera and PGA National. These courses are some of the hardest that they play all year. Prep for the Masters? I rest my case.
  8. you might wanna check that 7 year thing. i'm pretty sure he won his first masters in 1997. so that would make this year 13? Tiger by far has the advantage with the technology. But look at hit swing. He has the best swing ever and proves it by hitting some of the most amazing shots. If you watched his round on thursday at bayhill. He slice a 9i from the bunker 30yds left to right and landed just short of the green. I wanna see the top 150 on tour hit that shot and i bet 120 of them will not even come close. Most of them if faced with the same shot in their round would have simply blasted out and then tried to get up and down for par from about 100yds. Jack's reverse C is thing of beauty, but not the perfection that Tiger has shown. And if he ends of winning his 5th in a row at BayHill this weekend, just another step towards being the greatest ever. Did Jack win any tournaments 3 or 4 times in a row? One final note. I feel Tiger will not deserve to be called the best ever until he wins major #19.
  9. except for the part where they are having trouble getting enough play so far this year. didn't you hear? we are in a recention.
  10. Would you hit a 100% sand wedge or take a longer club (such as the gap or pitching wedge) and hit it softer? Not looking for any help, just looking to see what is going on out there.
  11. I try not to have to look for too many golf balls when i play. Somebody really smart once told me "Fairways and Greens" and everything else will fall into place. And as far as playing by the rules. Sunday morning with your buddies is probably not the best place to use the full 5 minutes everytime you lose a ball.
  12. the national average is 100, that i am absolutely sure of. I need to find it, but i am sure. And you are just like some of the arogant guys that i played against in college. you are all the same and think you should be on the tour. And if you are ever around columbus, ohio. I would love to see you and your 2.9 handicap on my courses. I can even get you a discounted rate. But as far as being discourteous and slow. I am neither, when i approach a slower group i simply wait and if they do not allow me to play through i just sit back and relax. I also walk everytime i play, so standing and waiting is not fun at all, but i don't care, where else would i rather be.
  13. Have you played texas holdem poker before. The swings in momentum could be about the same. Also, understand that you can put the pressure on your opponent. If you are first on the tee on a hole, and you see him pull out an iron to lay up. You better hit driver and make him at least think about it. Also, if he is first and pulls out iron to lay up, pull your driver out long before he hits and make sure he sees it. Play the minds games whenever you can. Be courteous of course, but mess with his head and make him doubt what he is doing. The mental game is so fun to mess with and when you know that he can't focus on his game you have him. But most of all have fun and good luck. Match play is really one of the greatest games to play.
  14. the golfer mentioned above were long, i'm not debating that. But they did not hit a 7iron 190 plus, like some of these guys are doing today.
  15. Question. Do you only go out and play on the course? Have you tried the driving range to help straighten out the accuracy thing. Oh wait you said Callaway driver. There is your problem. If you want a long and accurate driver, try one of the 2007 or 2008 King Cobra red fspeeds. Seriously, i picked up 10-15 yds and about 30% more accurate than the Titleist 983K that i was hitting. And for those of you who may not know. These two clubs are both made by the company named Acushnet. And they even stated that their 2007 Cobra drivers were far better than the Titleist D1 and D2 they made that year.
  16. I said long irons are harder to hit and that's why hybrids are needed for lower handicap players. He stated that hybrids are showing up on tour more frequently. Then, i said because the pros suck at accuracy now the we are in the "Tiger" era of golf. Don't get me wrong, i love hitting the ball 300 yds, but i also like having a challenging shot where distance is not the main focus.
  17. This is golf! and pace of play should not be an issue at all. Like i have said before, if you are out there and watching the clock you are playing the wrong sport. You don't hear baseball fans yelling because they had to sit at the ball park for 6 hours because the final score was 17-11 and neither team could pitch or play any defense. Just live with it and worry about you own game and not someone elses. If your game is like mine you will have plenty to worry about trying to get better.
  18. i finally got backed up on here. thanks
  19. Ok and you just made my point for me. The tour now is all about hitting it long without any regard to where it lands. If you look at the every good golfer prior to the "Tiger" era, they hit it semi long, but extremely accurate. Today golf courses are no longer judge by having to make creative, accurate shots. They are only good if they are at least 7500 yds long. I have played both short and long courses and I will shoot the same score on both. I wanna see these guys have to hit deadly accurate shots from 150 yds rather than average shots from 220.
  20. on a sunday morning? you would have been kicked off the course for 1 and for 2 good luck getting back to the holes you missed. but i do agree with the non courtesy of most golfers anymore. this should be a responsibility of the courses to pass this along since most golfers do not grow up having their father or local golf pro teach them the ways of golf.
  21. Look, slow play is a problem I will agree with that. However, golf is a game about discipline and patience. These to attributes have allowed me to become the golfer I am today. I'm not going to pretend to be a pro, cause I'm a long way from that ever happening. I just think people need to understand that the guy infront of them that just shot 110 for an 18 hole round may have just played the best round of his life. On another note, with the national amateur average floating right around "100", yes it is in fact 100 , I do not think any golfer out there has any right to criticize another person's ability or game. I played with 3 guys yesterday who's average age was around 70 and they played the senior/women's tees at my course. It was by far the most enjoyable round this year. They were hitting 7W from 150 yds and their short games were the only good part of the their game. But the key was that they did not care what the score card said at the end. Face it everyone wants to shoot at least 1 stroke better than what they end up with. Unfortunately that is the most frustrating part of the game. So, no matter what your target score is, go out and enjoy the fact that you are standing upright and can still swing the club. Even if it is the more spasm than and actual swing.
  22. so i would like to know who decided golf was supposed to be a fast paced game. If you cannot go out and enjoy the day because you are watching the clock then stay home and be a couch potato. I played competitive golf in college and most of our rounds took anywhere from 5 to 6 hours to play 18 holes. It's the fact that we were out there playing a game and not in the classroom or at work that we liked. We would get to par 3's that were backed up with 1 group on the green and 2 on the tee. I now am the assistant coach at a university in ohio and I sometimes have to play as a single behind my golfers. You wanna talk about a slow round. But I take extra time going over things like the wind, the distance, the shot i'm trying to hit (may not be an option for most). But anyway, like i said, if you are in a hurry to play a round of golf, you are playing the wrong sport. Enjoy it while you can and be glad you do not play in Japan where they have to wait 6 months just to get on any course!
  23. i am currently using a 17* titleist 980f 5W. if you're looking for a forgiving fairway metal with some distance i'm sure you can pick this up for fairly cheap. ebay has one on there now for about $60.
  24. i would like to think hit the ball fairly well and i carry a 5w instead of 3w for 2 reasons. 1) the 3w is very had to hit off the ground and 2) i hit my 5w 230-250 depending on the course conditions. The other thing for me is that i never tee off with anything other than my driver. i don't really spray it much so i don't have the need to hit a shorter more accurate shot. hopefully this helps In My Bag: fspeed 9.5, stiff flex 980f 5W TA2 irons 3-SW 52 58, both 588's newport 2 33" PV1 and PV1x
  25. Personally, i think determining whether or not to use a hybrid or an iron is determined by you club head speed. If do not generate enough speed hitting longer irons will be difficult. This is why the hybrids are so nice, so of the power comes from the wood like design. The becomes more apparent when hitting out of the rough. Another thing to look at is your handicap/ability. Longer irons are very difficult to hit and control. If you have contact problems to begin with you probably need to invest in hybrids. From what i have been told the Adams IDEA hybrids are very nice for mid handicap golfers. Best of luck.
