Pretty much working on everything. 1. Strength and conditioning so I don't get tired or anything, and I'm not one of those guys with a lot of big muscles... yet. haha 2. Full swing. My game is not great, but every once in a while I hit a great shot, so I'm working on replicating those good shots. 3. Short game. My short game is really my highest priority, considering I will be using my irons and chipping a majority of the time. Mainly making good contact every time if possible. 4. Driver. My driving game is spotty at best. I hit a good, straight, shot one day and the next day I have a nasty hook... So I have to figure out how to replicate a good swing.

Hey y'all, I'm sure these have been discussed before, but I'm wanting to know what you all think about the Nike Slingshot irons? Are these good clubs for someone looking for some help in their iron game? They feel pretty heavy as well so would they help to possibly "groove" a good swing using that weight? Thanks! HookEmHorns

What is a good goal to set for myself this summer?
HookEmHorns replied to HookEmHorns's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to aim for about 45-50... I'm having a lot of problems with my irons mainly. I used my driver off the tee and made the fairways most of the time. I've been reading and doing all I can to get ready to practice and play while the weather has been cold. Hopefully I can get out and practice when the weather finally does warm up. Thanks again everyone! Any other suggestions are welcome! -
Yeah. The show looks interesting. I like the fact that they actually talk about the mental aspect of Ray's game. I think that is really his major problem. He hit some really great shots, but when one didn't go like he wanted it to, he started getting upset and doubting himself and it made it a lot worse. I'm a psychology major and I'm really interested in sport psychology so this looks like a really good show to see what Hank has in store to get Ray thinking positively (It also helps that my name is Ray as well. haha). I think it went kind of slow as well, but I hope that was just to make sure we could get all the basic information about Ray. Hopefully they pick up the pace a little bit when they actually start working together.

What is a good goal to set for myself this summer?
HookEmHorns replied to HookEmHorns's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I can't really remember off hand, I have all my cards from the courses at home... Which is about 4 hours away from me at school. haha. Kind of a problem there. I usually play about 2 different golf courses, sometimes 3 but it depends on who I go with. I found the links to the courses right after I typed that stuff up above... haha. Here is Norwoods and Mosswood Meadows information. I usually go to Norwoods more often, but I have been to Mosswood Meadows a few times as well. Thanks, HookEmHorns -
Hey y'all, Been a while since I've posted.. I'm really itching to get out and play some golf again this summer! What I'm wanting to know is what is a good goal to set for myself? I don't really know exactly what I shoot on average, since my game is so inconsistent. I think I want to set a goal for 9 holes, since I will gradually work my way up to 18 holes throughout the summer. So what is a good goal to set as far as scores go? I don't really know where I want to get to so that is kind of messing up my other goals on how to get there. haha. Thanks! HookEmHorns

Hey y'all, Been a long time since I've been on here! I pretty much gave up on golf after this summer and almost passing out on the course and getting so frustrated all the time... I'm trying to get back into golf again and I understand that it is winter and the wrong time to get back into golf, but I really need a good hobby for this summer and hopefully I can get good by the summer this time... So I guess what I'm trying to ask is what do you do to practice over the winter when it is too cold and snow/ice outside? I don't really have anywhere indoors to practice or anything so what do you guys think? Thanks a bunch and wish me lots of luck! HookEmHorns

I like Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, just like everyone else has said already. I think I like Golf Magazine better though, to be honest.

Tournament Strategy-Final Hole
HookEmHorns replied to denver_nuggs_15's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think I would like to know that. But, having said that, I don't think I would want to know either. I would say that knowing would be good because, like you said, you would know whether to take it easy or take a more risky approach. But I also see where the teacher comes from. I would see myself getting too worked up and put too much pressure on myself and not focusing on my game. Playing up to expectations has never been a strong part for me, I don't usually handle the pressure good... But for others, I'm sure it helps a lot. To each his own I guess. -
I tried to play 9 today. I knew it would be too hot to get a full round in when I heard on the radio that it was about 110 degree heat index and about 40-50% humidity.... Damn Missouri! I figured I would try to walk, I did that a few weeks ago, but it was way too hot! I made it through 6 and my score was up higher than it usually is after 9! I couldn't hold onto the club and looked like I jumped in the pond, which may have been a good idea... haha Tomorrow is supposed to be in the low 80's and 10-20mph wind, so I guess we'll see how I do on a different course... Never played this one yet, but I guess it is better than today's heat.

Hey y'all, I have about 3 gloves that i use and they are all dirty. I bought one a week ago and it is getting pretty dirty. My question, is there any way to clean these gloves or should I just forget it and buy a new one later on? I hate having dirty equipment so the gloves being covered in dirt is killin me! My favorite one that I really am wanting clean is a Nike leather glove. Any tricks to get it clean again would be extremely appreciated! Thanks y'all!

New Bag, Club Management Tips...
HookEmHorns replied to SuperWade2's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That's how I usually put mine in my bag. Don't have a bag with quite as many pockets in it, but that's basically how I put mine together. If they aren't in the right order I definitely notice... and then have to put them in the correct order. haha -
SuperWade you have to let me know how you like these clubs! I liked the slingshot irons but they were real heavy compared to any of the other clubs I picked up! I didn't like that too much... But I really LOVE the look of the Victory Reds. They just look amazing! Simple and sweet. I like them a lot. Hopefully you have good luck with them. Keep me posted!

Thats kind of what I thought. But I want to be absolutely sure before I spend the money on these babies. I think the website just compared the victory red muscle backs, split, and full cavity irons. So I figured that it just meant the full cavity were low workability as compared to the muscle backs.
-
Hey y'all, I have been looking at some of the irons on the Nike website and I really like the Victory Red Full Cavity irons. It says it has high forgiveness and low workability, compared with the other Victory Red series irons. Does this mean that they are not as workable as any of the other irons out there or just not as workable as the Victory Red Blades? I am looking at these as a replacement for my crappy wal-mart set I've been working with for the past 3 years (I'm kind of ready to upgrade! . I don't want to get these clubs and then be ready to upgrade in another year or so, I would like these to work for a while for me, especially because of the price... I was debating on whether to get the full cavity victories or the 4D slingshot irons... Thoughts? I am already planning to go try a few clubs out, but I have to go quite a ways to get to anyplace where I can from here. Thanks for the help guys, and sorry if the message is kind of jumbled, its been a long day!

Anyone bought from oldclubs.com?
HookEmHorns replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would be interested to see if they are legit as well. I have already found a couple clubs I wouldn't mind having if they were ok. Looking at a new set of irons... Cheap stuff on there. -
TF Gamer & Freak
HookEmHorns replied to SteelDriver's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have wondered if the Gamer was any good. I have seen them before and I really wanted to buy them but didn't want to waste my money... Thanks again for posting! I'm gonna pick up a box of them next time. -
I had shin splints all through basketball season during high school, I understand your pain! I think that it was from me being so flat footed and my feet weren't pointed straight ahead, I think it put too much torque on my shins and knees and thats why I have problems now. But I would definitely agree Marinemike on the orthotics. I am getting a pair of them soon so I hope it will help my game out! Good luck with it, I know how bad it hurts!

Amazing! Congrats! Hopefully I can hit a shot like that some day! haha.

i feel like giving up, i can't even hit the ball
HookEmHorns replied to twinke masta's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Next time you go to the range or anything, just swing the club, don't think about it, just swing the club. That is the most important part I think. Overthinking the game my biggest flaw. I got pretty down when I was starting out (and still do on occasion), but if I didn't practice for a couple days, I came back and found that the rest actually did a little good. Getting frustrated is natural, and it only gets worse if you let it. -
Congrats! Hopefully I can see the same results when I buy me some new clubs! haha. I think that confidence in your equipment has a lot to do with it. Congrats again and hopefully your game only gets better!

Irons for 15-20 Handicapper with thin top line?
HookEmHorns replied to dmbisbest's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I like the CG7 Tour irons. I haven't heard anything bad about them really. Think that is what I'm going to do this summer when I get the money. I hit a few at Golf Galaxy a couple weeks ago and those things are sweeeeeet! But it's ultimately up to you, hit a few and see which one fits your game the best. -
Welcome to the forum and don't worry about it, its a learning game. I just recently figured that out myself. The golf fix on golf channel is a great show from what I've seen. I like it and learned a lot from it. Study study study, that's all you can do. Good luck and stick with it!
-
Thanks a lot! I was just wondering about them. They were given to me, so no money lost that's a good thing! haha. Thanks a lot for the help! I may see if I can get a couple bucks out of them later, I like my other cheapo fairway woods better, steel shaft. Thanks again!

Ok. I know it's been a while, but I just remembered those clubs. I've been working on hitting my irons and completely forgot about those clubs. They are King Snake clubs They have M.R.S. under the name. I have a 3 wood 15* loft, 5 wood 21* loft, and a 7 wood 25* loft. They are silver and gold writing on them. The shafts don't say much on them. Rapport Oracle Plus. Then it says Swing Science by Rapport... So I don't know anything about these clubs, but I would say they are a little old... The face of them is kind of different. And the flex seems kind of light to me, but I could just not know anything.. Probably the case. haha. There is no numbers on them and they have lamkin grips on 'em. Thanks!
