Afraid you wont get to see your family? hell for me that would be a reward i see enough of them every day, but thats just me. Like anything else the only way to get better at golf. I'd say the two main points i'd make as far as swing advice goes is try to hit the ball from the inside and make sure your shoulders are on the same path at impact as they are when you address the ball.

There a pretty straight forward par 4 hole thats about 350 yards at my home course that im usually around the green and occasionally on. So I know i've got 340+ in me, and i usually hit the ball around 310-320 on just a smooth swing. I was just in the shop to get an extra stiff instead of a stiff, even though you're probably right about that guy trying to butter me up. Also I heard something about long drive drivers that have 50" long shafts and 6.5 degrees of loft. Don't know how much those things would add but im assuming another 10 or 15 yards.

How Many Times Do You Hit the Gym for Strength Training?
tmf9 replied to DoGolf Jonathan's topic in Fitness and Exercise
Im 18 and I lift heavily 5 to 6 times a week. Some say thats too much for golf but honestly those are usually the same people that dont spend much time in the gym, at least as far as powerlifting goes. Sure i've been sore on the golf course but never to the extent where it hindered my golf swing. I think it helps my game tremendously. Having good lower body and core strength is going to help everyone hit the ball farther, plus you'll look better too. -
Do you have any friends that lift weight? Me and a buddy i've mine joined a gym about a year ago and all the motivation I needed was trying to outlift him. Now I go religiously. After a month or two of going to the gym it really becomes a habit. I go by myself quite often now, sometimes for more than two hours. My advice would be to get a gym membership with a friend if possible.

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone here has ever entered any long drive competitions? I have been thinking about entering some events ive been driving the ball around 330-340 yards. I never really thought about entering any tournaments until i was trying out new drivers at golf galaxy and the employee said something about it to me after seeing my swing speed was around 125-128. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or if im even long enough to enter a competition.

Idk why Erik is on this show, he's just not really a golf guy. But i'm not going to throw him under the bus because his old show on ESPN radio was great.

Don't sell yourself short man breaking 80 is breaking 80. So what it was a par 70, maybe you would have birdied the extra par 5's if it were a par 72. As far as hitting only 3 fairways, i've shot 70 before hitting only 2 fairways, and Tigers broken 70 many times only hitting a couple fairways so don't worry about that.

I've never seen people do it, but I have noticed new pro v's and bridgestone b330 in my bucket at the range. More power to them, it just means free Pro V's for Taylor

Try and get as big a shoulder turn as you can on the backswing and think about hitting the inside part of the golf ball to get rid of that slice.

That I don't know im not very familiar with Foley but I can tell you I don't think its Haney. I think Butch would be best, but that would never happen.

Tiger wanted to change swings because he thought he could improve accuracy and distance wise (not to mention his old swing made his knee the mess it is) people like Tiger are never satisfied with what they have, they always want more. Lee Travino said that about Tiger and it really is the truth. Wether that is a good thing or not for the rest of his career remains to be seen.

It certainly wasn't the greatest. Correct me If im wrong but I think Tiger won at Firestone a few years being dead last in driving accuracy. Ever since I started watching golf (about 5 years ago) I never remember Tiger being an accurate driver. What set him apart was his irons and his short game. Tiger is still a good iron player and you have to figure his short game will only get better with time. Any golfer whos undergone swing changes knows it takes time, Martin Kaymer is getting a break now because he's undergoing swing changes, and he's certainly had more time to practice them than Tiger.

You dont have to worship the ground he works on, but you would think Tiger ia a shot golfer listening to him. Im no Tiger "fanbois" but if he were ANY other golfer on tour we would be saying oh he's rusty he just needs time but since he's Tiger people say he may never come back...pretty rediculous imo. Brandal is definitely a Tiger hater, I don't care what anyone says.

lost the balance after finishing the swing
tmf9 replied to popcorn's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My guess would definitely be swinging to hard...you're probably trying to put a little extra in the longer clubs. -
I mean I dont think Tiger is going to break Jack's Record anymore, but good lord I don't think I've heard him say one postive thing about Tiger recently, give the guy a break he's had hardly any practice and he's coming off a 4 month layoff...geez

I'll trade with you haha

One thing to avoid scooping is to lean your hands in front of the ball with your irons and try to make sure your hands are in front of the ball at impact. To avoid hitting it fat concentrate on your weight shift. Get your weight shifted to your back foot on the back swing and then to your front foot on the downswing, it someting i have been working on lately and its helped me tremendously.

Like others said everyone has tournament nerves, but its realizing that you can make a good swing while nervous and what your tendencies are when you are nervous that make a good tournament player. The main thing i've found is to just concentrate on the shot thats in front of you and take it one shot at a time (I know its a cliche but it works)

Congrats man! I know I cant wait for my season to start( sadly its not until March) but goodluck this season!

I was really hoping Dustin and Rickie would play better than that, hopefully they turn it around tommorow. Right now im cheering for Davis Love and Stricker, Steve seems like such a a nice guy.

Rickie Fowler, Rory, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, and Adam Scott are my favorites...and I'll throw in Davis Love as a darkhorse
-
Funny you mention that because i was playing with a friend (who is also a good golfer) and me and him walked 18 in three hours today lol

Ahhh finally I shot par, a 70 at a course i haven't played in months, and it had mostly brown, areated greeens lol, I should have shot a couple under but i'll take it any day of the week. These swing changes are finally paying off, such a great feeling

The guy in my avatar Dustin Johnson lol. Ive been told my swing is similar to his, im 6'4" like him and i also have a pretty similar build, and i hit the ball a mile like him. Unfourtunately I have some mental lapes on the course like him...probably more
