  1. I hit my driver perfect. My only issue my loft is to high. I think I need to drop to a 9 degree instead of the 10.5 I have now. I drive an average of 280 but when I am able to keep the ball down I can get to the 330 mark.To achieve this I have to tee a little lower and further back in my stance to keep the ball down. If I would have purchased the 9 degree up front and and worked on my swing then I wouldn't need to purchase a new driver now. Instead I purchased a higher loft to make up for what I lacked in skill. I gave this as an example of why I was thinking of purchasing Irons (blades) out side of my current skill level. I guess you could say I am blaming my club but I think of it more as I made a poor choice which is why I am trying not to do the same with the irons..... I hope that makes it a little more clear?
  2. YES! this is what I am wanting. I constantly (and I hear others every time I play) say "What am I doing wrong". You go through the swing, drop another ball to try and duplicate it and of course you hit it perfect. I want and need that feedback to help me understand what I am doing wrong. Of course I don't expect the club to work miracles but with my current clubs I have to strike the ball very poor to understand what is going on.
  3. Maybe that was the "EGO" he was speaking of ;) I didn't mean for this to be a blade vs cavity thread. There are millions of them out there. I am asking if it is better to refine your swing on a less forgiving club vs a club that will correct your errors for you?
  4. No offense but you miss read everything I said. Or attempted to say. Do I think switching to blades will make my game better NO WAY. I actually think it will make my game worse. At least up front. I want a club that will tell me when I hit the ball wrong not cover up for it thus improving my swing. Using your train of thought, or at least the way I am interpreting it, clubs don't matter. Right? So I am just as well off to purchase a $70 set of Willsons as I am buying a $1000 set of Mizunos? As far as the serious vs fun.. well if I get serious and improve my game then it will be more fun. Do I want to be a "Pro" no. But it would be nice to shoot a 75 - 80 instead of an 85 - 100
  5. This could be an Urban Legend but I have heard several times that a rusty wedge is a good wedge. That you can get greater control and spin... Did I just prove my ignorance or is this valid?
  6. Wow $360? That would be sweet since I thought I was thinking it would be in the $1k range. Isn't it best to get fitted rather than buy off the rack? One of my issues is that I am 6'6" tall so if nothing else I need a longer shaft.
  7. So you pretty much got your Driver free ?
  8. Why would you practice with different clubs than you play with? I am honestly asking. It doesn't make sense to me so I must be missing something.
  9. Wow what are the odds? I use 3 dots and a line also!
  10. Thanks for the replies and advice everyone. It looks like I will be purchasing some blades That is exactly why I want to get a less forgiving club. If I am striking the ball poorly I want to know. I play every day weather & time allow. usually 9 holes 3 or 4 times during the week and 18 on Saturday and Sunday. I only hit the range maybe twice a week. That is one of my bad habits. Hitting range balls is really boring to me. I would rather be playing. The issue is the course is not a good place to try and work issues out
  11. I have been playing off and on for about 5 years. My second year of playing I went out and got fitted for clubs. I ended up with a set of TA7 custom to my swing at the time. Since then my stance, grip and swing have all changed A LOT. I need to get new irons and I am trying to figure out if I should go with blades or another cavity set. I am starting to get more serious about my game this year vs just playing for fun. I know a blade set will be more difficult to hit than my current set but my logic is that I should refine my game with a higher level of club then depend on the equipment to make up for what I lack in skill. For example, I went from teeing with my 3 wood to a driver last year. I purchased a hibore driver with 10.5 degree of loft. At the time I purchased the driver it helped me get the ball up but now that my speed is much faster I have way too much loft. If I would have purchases an 8 or 9 degree driver I would have had a hard time at first but I would still be good now instead of buying a new driver 1 year later. Hope that makes sense? Dose my justification hold water or am I making a huge mistake? On a side note, when I miss-hit on my irons it is usually top or blade the ball vs toe or healing the ball.
  12. Tiger has the advantage of all of the tech we have today. If Jack was in his prime today I think you might be saying Tiger who?
  13. My wife is in the USAF so sometimes my local course is fantastic and sometimes, like now, it is crap. Right now this is my local course http://www.ellsworthservices.com/PrairieRidge/index.htm
  14. I am a system engineer which is just a fancy way of saying computer geek
