  1. You wonder if people don't look at e-bay to get an idea of what the price point should be... http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/spo/2511129534.html
  2. Always tie the left shoe first and then the right. This stems from playing hockey for many years as a goalie so "superstition" (I call it routine!) is right up my alley. Also, if I were to try and make a putt with my glove I suspect the universe would become out of balance and possibly implode so best not take the chance.
  3. I don't know, that's an interesting question. I seem to recall someone on here that stated that they hit all the fairways and greens and two putted every green for an even par for the day. Can't imagine that happens too often.
  4. I admit I have snapped a club in anger. A couple of years ago coming off the 17th tee I wasn't in a good mental place and my Titleist 906 3 wood caught the brunt of it. I walked off the tee and down the stairs just keeping myself composed and as I got to the last stair I decapitated that 3 wood by hitting the edge of the stair just above the hosel. Snapped the head off clean as can be. Didn't yell or scream, just "calmly" snapped the club. Regretted it immediately but I had a 909 in mind anyway but still no excuse. But like Ben said the "evil" just got to me that day and that is what happened! On a side note I grew up cadding for a couple of different clubs and maybe my memory isn't the best but I seem to recall meltdowns such as the ones being discussed here were more commonplace 25 years ago. Like I said it might be my perception but I don't see the breaking of clubs that often anymore.
  5. Soounds like you guys are from the northern metro. I'm from Coon Rapids and my home course is Bunker Hills. Can't beat $33 walking!
  6. This cannot be beat unless it was a two-day thing with lodging in Butler Cabin. I am not worthy. But I have played Riveria CC and the TPC Twin Cities. Not all that exclusive but anytime you can't put your golf shoes in the parking lot and have to watch for members only signs is pretty exclusive to me.
  7. I think I saw you. You were the guy with a 100 person gallery watching in awe and a supermodel caddying for you because your just that good looking. Looked like you were negotiating a big deal all the while punch fading to a 3 under par. I went to touch the hem of your garment but you had sped away in your BMW with yet another supermodel before I could pay tribute. You sir, posses the balls of every man that ever lived and it's all thanks to your clubs.
  8. That's pretty funny and some good advice! But technical considerations aside I suggest picking up an inexpensive putter that you like the looks of. As you mentioned how do you make sense of what is out there? Only experience and trying out different models over a period of time will you be able to narrow it down. So I wouldn't worry about picking up the "wrong" putter at this point. Get something that "feels" right and is easy on the wallet. And don't forget to get a putting lesson too!
  9. Actually I think that's kinda funny! I look at it this way. Courses like you described attract this kind of golfer then so be it. It keeps them off "our" courses and it doesn't sound like the proprietor is going to turn down the revenue so in my opinion it's a win-win. Admittedly it sounds like a pasture with flags sticking out of the ground and frankly on a course like that I would be a little dissapointed if I didn't see something like that! If it's one thing I have learned about golf is that this game is played many ways by many different people.
  10. Hmmm... some interesting comments from many on this subject. Here are two observations I have noticed in just last month. Four guys that look in their mid twenties hopping into 2 carts after paying their green fees. Two other guys that are obviously walking comment loudly enough for the other 4 guys to over hear "Damn shame people use carts. Friggin' laziness is ruining this country." To which one of the "cart kids" replied, "That's ok sir. I got enough walking in during my last tour in Afghanistan." The two walkers left quickly to the first tee without saying a word. So there is this guy that is a week-end player and is fairly skilled but decides taking a cart is a good idea for the day. Of course the "Purity Police" at my club (every club has them) admonish the guy for taking the lazy way out. I get matched up with him and during our round we are making chit chat. Turns out he has 4 daughters, is building an addition to his house, and is a volunteer firefighter. He was telling me he normally walks but he had a killer week and just needs to unwind a bit and enjoy a tasty beverage on the course. He shot his second lowest career score that day. The point is that if you honestly believe that people taking carts is a big issue than you haven't a clue on what is going on in somebody elses life that may make them decide on taking a cart that day. The judgment given to them can only come from ignorance. So lighten up on the cart folks and concern yourself with your own game. And by the way, I walk about 90% of the time.
  11. Imagine if you matched up The Hammer with a set of Ping Eye 2's what would happen?!? Might leave nothing more than a smoking crater with that much awesome in one place. Something seems familar with this poster....
  12. That's pretty good! Beats what I had done a few years back in Alabama. I hit a tee shot with a brand new ball that landed straight into a fairway bunker. Then hit my second on the fly into a greenside bunker. My third flew over the green straight into another bunker. Fourth went sideways into a 3rd bunker. Then of course I hit the flagstick about 2 feet up and it dropped straight down into the cup for a bogey 5. Not once during the entire play of the hole did that ball touch a blade of grass. You just never know what your going to see on any given round.
  13. This^ I had the same reaction when I saw the clubs distances the OP posted. One comment that the OP made was he noticed that many players try to hit at 100% for every club. I see this all the time with pretty good players and not just high cappers. Like taking out a 9 iron when an 8 has a much better chance even if mis-hit. Good post OP.
  14. Snapping the pin. That's awesome! Someday....
  15. A more clearer example of an inferiority complex cannot be found. To the OP - seriously what is the point of this thread other than talk trash which I keep hearing is an American thing? Like some others have posted here I don't hear anyone at my club talking about "this guy from Europe" or "that guy from America". It's always, "McIroy did this" or "Tiger did that." Fans of European players like the OP remind me of people with new money. Obsessed with the here and now.
  16. Isn't that the truth?! Been trying to explain that to non-golfers for years!
  17. It's been "proven" that I cannot make a putt with my glove on.
  18. I agree with you that it's going to be one heck of an effort to change culturally from what is perceived to be the "womens" tee's to a (just for arguments sake) 19+ handicap tee. No question that this will not be implemented on a wide scale for a long time yet but I think where it would have to start would be with the PGA club pros instructing their students and especially juniors about the proper tee. Plus the USGA has the responsibility to consistently "sell" the idea along with the PGA of America. I think long term it would be beneficial to the game.
  19. So you admittedly hit into groups, carry a baseball bat which apparently you have wielded after someone, who funny, took exception to getting hit into, and if given the opportunity chase players around the course with said bat if they played less than 3 hours? Did I get that right?!?
  20. Every time I see something like this I think of the Simpson's character "Krusty the Clown" and what he said after his rib sandwich fiasco (something about the animal that it was made from went extinct?!) "What a long, strange product roll out this has been."
  21. I think this is a great idea. If someone is only driving 190-210 (I see a lot of week-end players that fit this profile whether they know it or not!) why should they be playing a 410 yard par 4? It's robbing that player of the fun of decision making. Use driver or 3 wood off the tee? On the second shot, do I want to attack the flag or play safe to the fat part of the green and putt from 40 feet? None of those decisions come into play for that player. Instead it's driver, then 3 wood/hybrid in hopes of striping two shots together to hit the green in regulation. Or as many already do concede hitting the green in reg and take a hybrid out then a mid iron and then chip/pitch on to the green. That's fine I guess but if that is being used on 6 or 7 out of 10 par 4's during a round that indicates a problem. You take that same player and have them play the hole as a 340-350 par 4 and then they would have golf decisions to make. To me, it's the best part of the game. With that said I think there are limits but courses that have tee's set up between 5000-6800 are in great position to be able to help the customer enjoy their golf experience. I hope this gets some traction.
  22. 6:58 yesterday was the first group off the tee. The sun angle can make for locating balls in the rough a little tough but teeing off at the same time I would be walking into the office is golden. I try to get the first tee time at least 3-4 times a year.
  23. Very true. I have had my eye on the 710CB's for a while now but was waiting until the "new" series came out. After the 712's are released and inventories are stocked I figure I'll save a little $$$ as opposed to buying the 710's now.
  24. Just listed on their web-site. Not much of a change by the looks of it from the 710 series. http://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/b/tourblog/archive/2011/06/26/prototype-titleist-712-irons-introduced-on-pga-tour.aspx
  25. Ahhh but you have impressed me. Just a little while ago you were talking about heading out to go play a round and here you are contributing on the Sandtrap. Must be using a smart phone between shots. Of course I suppose nothing is impossible when all the world stops and admires those...what was the name of those irons again??? All right man, hope you didn't take too much offense by all this. Glad you have found your perfect set of irons. I'll say this for ya, your one strange cat, that's for sure.
